This was one of the most fun Gab streams I ever caught live, 90% of chat was just everybody screaming at Nancy for recklessly destroying ancient artefacts. This game should be named Nancy Drew: Tomb of the Nancy Don't Touch That. 🙈 About lost my mind at the canopic jars already and then Nancy got around to interacting with the sarcophagus... 😱
I literally just came up on that part at 1:48:00 where Nancy is just casually breaking open the canopic jars. I immediately went back to the Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser and the lovely Rachel Weisz. The poor half wits that broke the same kind of jars left themselves open for Imhotep's curse, getting sucked dry as part of his regeneration. Next Nancy will probably start reading from the Book of the Dead; nice knowing you Nancy. 😆🃏
I'm an archaeologist and I watched this with another archaeologist friend of mine and honestly the most accurate thing about this whole game was the characterisation of Abdullah (no one wants to see our list of inaccuracies that didn't have to be inaccurate). The whole time he was doing his grandstanding and egoistic monologues we were losing it laughing and just calling out the names of the archaeologists we knew whom he reminded us of. And they weren't all just archaeologists we hated, Egyptologists in particular are very weird creatures. I knew one who made a really important discovery 2 days before digging was supposed to finish and worked the entire team like crazy for 48hrs to get it lifted, loaded into a truck, covered with other stuff and hidden, before driving it to the local university at top speed in the dead of night in order to prevent it from being destroyed before he could get back there the next year. The same guy once also fell in a trench and broke his ankle and we still mock him about it to this day. He was also in Egypt during the coup, got his students evacuated, then pretended that he wasn't getting any of the university's messages to him telling him to evacuate and ran around Egypt for 2 weeks trying to secure the site. He was firmly Chaotic good/neutral and had no time for anyone he considered an idiot or who got in the way of what he thought needed to be done, but if he liked you then he was a delight. I've also known archaeologists not dissimilar from how Abdullah acts at the end of the game. SPOILER ALERT: The artefact black market is absolutely HUGE and is commonly just referred to as the art market. I'm not an Egyptologist, my specialty is ancient Iraq and most of the artefacts you see in museums, if they don't mention the site and period, were looted and sold illegally. We have entire classes of artefacts (incantation bowls are one example) that we generally agree as a field should not be studied anymore, because it just drives further demand from the black market. 90% of sites in Iraq are covered in looter's holes, it's a massive and insidious industry.
@@renataalvim9281 lol, sure. First off, as a disclaimer: I'm not an Egyptologist, so I can't say too much about the hieroglyphs or iconography, but I did do some Egyptology before I specialised and the one thing that really stood out to both of us is that (ignoring the kinda weird decoration) the tomb decor more closely matches a noble, rather than a royal tomb. In a royal tomb, as far as I'm aware, decoration and hieroglyphs would have been carved into the stone and then painted, which means they are much more labour-intensive, but also more durable than designs that are just painted. This leads on to some of our critiques of the excavation: - If the tomb really was swallowed by sand then almost all of the paint should have been rubbed off by the coarse grains over thousands of years. - In the same vein, excavating a tomb to that degree would take years, possibly decades to shift the sand. If you think about it, every open space outside of the sealed chambers has to be manually emptied by hand to check for finds. - There aren't nearly enough ladders and flood lights. If you had a tomb like that there would be ladders and lights to photograph all the walls, paintings are never that well-preserved and everyone would be in a tizzy. - I know the story says that the workers ran away, but a site that size would have at minimum 50-60 excavators, as well as tech people (geophys teams, etc.), artefact processors, archaeological experts (pottery, art, writing, small finds, human remains, etc.), people managing the records, support staff (e.g. catering, medical), and security, not to mention constant contact with specialists back at universities for lab work, translation, etc. It would be well over 100 people (more likely 200) and there aren't nearly enough tents for that and the tent Nancy goes in for artefact processing is laughably tiny. You would also have more than 2 professors, especially if it was a joint expedition. - There's not enough paperwork. There's so much paperwork involved in excavation (context records, harris matricies, maps, find descriptions, etc.). - There is no security presence in the game. This isn't a thing everywhere, but in Egypt (and Iraq) security at archaeological sites is a must. If someone made a find that was this impressive, the police and/or military would be at the site before the archaeologists and would not leave under any circumstance, even after the excavation season ends. - Secret archaeological sites do exist, but they aren't sites that no one is allowed to know about in the middle of nowhere, you just have to sign 101 NDAs to go there and access is restricted (see the security point again). It's more about not being allowed to talk about what you've found and the significance of the site, rather than a small, under-the-table excavation. - There is literally no safety gear in the game. To go in somewhere like that the entire tomb has to be stabilised by engineers and you essentially wear building site safety gear. - The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is completely absent. In reality, you'd never be able to get them to go away, they keep a very close eye on major excavations. - There isn't nearly enough alcohol, excavations almost everywhere run on booze. (Also, I get the idea of having a secret, separate tomb for the body, but the Egyptians believed that the ka required a lot of the 'treasures' that are absent from the tomb, if Ramses II had actually done this he would have denied his wife her proper afterlife for thousands of years. They seriously couldn't have given her a single shabti?) With all that having been said, there was also a lot that was at least close to accurate and I loved the game, getting to complain about things and yell at Nancy for destroying stuff honestly made it even more fun.
ALSO I completely forgot to complain about the fact that the Anunnaki are actually the ancient aliens people claimed were in Iraq, not Egypt, it's a Sumerian word that they just used to refer to their pantheon (trans. 'assembly of the gods'). Stichin (who popularised the whole ancient aliens thing in Iraq) might be the second most-hated person in my specific field (following GW Bush). So the game is also stealing our racist conspiracy theorists when they already had their own they could use lol.
21:35 I took an Archaeology/Anthropology class years ago and I still remember my Professor saying, specifically, about the Pharaoh's family that "It was less a Family Tree and more a Family Ladder."
Well shattered medallion will be interesting because I only played it the once when it came out and then never again...so at least there will be some surprises?
Ah, shattered medallion, a game, starring one of the most infamous, interesting, and unknown characters of the series, that honestly kinda flopped. The pacing for that game kinda sucks from my experience of playing it.
Nancy is an absolute menace, lol. Here's my tidbits for this game: - I definitely thought Dylan was Australian when I played this as a teenager. Still thought so while replaying it recently until he said something about being English and then I went ??? 😅 - The bonus edition of the game (that you got if you preordered it from Her Interactive) lets you call that number for SPIED. You only ever get brief answering machine clips, but they're kinda funny. I especially like "If you're calling to report a UFO sighting, please remember to include your location. The sky is very large." - Lily has the same VA as Lukas, the little kid in Germany. You can really tell when she says "See ya!" - Chat was losing it over Nancy being the worst archeologist in history, but it can actually get even worse. You can smash one of the pots in the antiquities tent for an Easter egg. D: - For decoding the special hieroglyphs, you can use your own keyboard instead of clicking on the letters up top. - My game glitched a bit and wouldn't let me finish decoding the glyphs left of the destiny stone path. Glad that didn't happen to you! - When you were setting up the ability to move the pillars, you managed to randomly place the circle things in the right places so you didn't even have to deal with that part of the puzzle! That was where the "I am the wind.." and "I am the hunter" etc. poem thing was supposed to be used. - Jamila has nail polish in her purse, which I found interesting. Maybe this is me being ignorant of other cultures, but I *think* she's Muslim. And maybe that polish is halal/breathable? Or maybe she isn't Muslim so she doesn't have to worry about that? I dunno. - Dylan has a tour guide ID thing from John Grey's Paranormal Tours in the US. I guess he does tours when he isn't filming for his show. Or maybe his show isn't going anymore since it has been... a while? I don't know how time is supposed to work in Nancy's universe. - If you tell Bess about the cobra, she asks who you think put it there. You can accuse her, which leads to her talking about how she and George pranked Nancy with a garter snake when they were kids. - The in-game way to tell what carnelian looks like is to check the list of little amulets found in the tomb; one of them is a carnelian something. - Re: bin chicken - In Scottish Gaelic, a turkey is a "French chicken" (cearc-fhrangach) and a grouse is a "heather chicken" (cearc-fhraoich). Hehe. - I never put it together until chat pointed it out, but the journal entries from the previous expedition were totally written by Jamila's mom. Wild! - I know Ransom of the Seven Ships isn't sold anymore, but it could still be worth tracking it down to play it. The reason it got discontinued was a white guy pretending to be from Jamaica, but he didn't actually darken his skin (as far as I can tell), he just had some fake dreads on and was using a bad accent. That one lets you play as George and you meet a parrot who's descended from LouLou, haha. Not the greatest ND game (and definitely better if you've played Stay Tuned For Danger, game #2) but still reasonably enjoyable.
Hihi~ i haven't gotten to Jamila part yet but to answer your question about the nail polish, as a Muslim to my understanding, you are allowed to wear them so long you take them off when doing prayers. I had a friend that does this and she took them off everytime with acetone before doing prayers. Nail polish are waterproof and it hinders the wudhu, something we have to do before doing our prayers. We must make sure the wudhu is done properly for prayers. Otherwise, if you're on your period, we can wear them until our period ends as we are not allowed to pray during those times. I would say the same thing for extensions but I'm not too knowledgeable on this part since I haven't seen Muslims that does this. I myself wear nail polish when I can and when I'm on my period. Hope this was easy to understand! :> Oh and most nail polish uses halal ingredients, so long as we do our researched on what is used to make nail polish, we can definifely wear them!
Wow I had no idea ransom of the seven ships wasn't sold anymore..... ALSO gabs hasn't played stay tuned for danger, is that still available? I still have the CD for it 😅
@fray763 how interesting! I didn't know about not praying while on your period, as a Christian I probably pray more when I'm on my period lol asking God to give me strength and calmness. Your friend is very dedicated, as another commenter said I probably just wouldn't wear nail polish. Also can you explain what "halal" means?
To this day I really don't understand the reasoning behind them taking ransom of the seven ships off the market...the person hasn't darkened his skin at all and he's wearing a wig and doing an accent as a disguise? I don't remember anyone having an issue when the game was originally released but I was still a kid, do you remember? All I remember was everyone hated the monkey puzzles lol and the fact that there was only 1 culprit. Edit: oh and I remember I hadn't played stay tuned for danger when I played it for the first time and was so confused by who he was 🤣
Queen Nefertari is one of my favorite queens. She was well respected in her time and her reputation as Queen carried her name through history. I have a tattoo of one of the scenes from her tomb. I love Nancy drew is looking for her tomb
Archaeologist here with a quick note regarding the Rosetta Stone and its housing at the British Museum 😅 I know it was only mentioned in passing, but the Rosetta Stone was discovered in 1799 by French forces during the Napoleonic campaign in Egypt. The stone was briefly considered French property until Turkish and British military forces defeated and ousted the French military and scholars from Egypt in 1801. The official victory over the French was led by a British lieutenant general, who died shortly following the battle due to an injury, and the general who succeeded him claimed the Rosetta Stone, among other antiquities, as British property according to the treaty of capitulation (basically, France’s surrender agreement). In 1802, the stone was shipped to England where, after extensive study and the making of plaster casts, it was put on display in the British Museum. TLDR: Napoleon’s men found the Rosetta Stone while invading/occupying Egypt, then the British took it from them as part of war spoils.
The reason you're not supposed to sleep after a knock to the head is you might have a subdural hematoma, which is basically bleeding in the brain. That can be bad enough that you never wake up again, though sometimes they're only small. I imagine if people are saying it's a myth now, it's probably because we now have imaging technology and can check for that kind of damage, but for a long time it was just safer not to risk it (because we didn't always have imaging technology).
Zabi Hawass is the man you're thinking off. He's the archeologist, Egyptologist and former Minister of State for Antquities Affairs. He controls what stays in Egypt. A very important job. Oh you just mentioned it. 😊❤🇬🇧
3:30:53 actually, Nance, it says ‘hey I’m thousands of years old maybe you should WEAR SOME GLOVES OR SOMETHING and not doodle on me while you’re at it’
@@katkyamko70 lol fans of the ND games pretty much collectively hate the shattered medallion, there are some things about it that are fun but overall it’s not well planned out in my opinion :)
@@minuettewelbornhonestly I liked Trail of the Twister 😭😭 even with the less than stellar story, mystery and tedious puzzles (although maybe it’s because Sean and Gab made it so entertaining….)
@1:23:16 so interesting that she talks about the allegory of the cave. It’s a common philosophic concept originally told by Plato. The sun represents true knowledge and actualization, whereas the fire is the way most people are (in knowledge and self). Super super cool!! 😊
Senet is DEFINITELY NOT one of the first games humans EVER played?!?! That’s so ridiculous. We know for a fact and by common sense that humans have been playing games back to early prehistory. What Senet IS, is one of the earliest board games that we have complete examples of from archaeological sites!
I was recently going back through the Nancy playlist to help lull me into sleep after my overnight shifts - it's hard sleeping in the day! Now I have a new one to save for when I'm awake!
And that kitty cat tomb is so sweet. Including some of kitty's items and then the ceiling above having birds on it so kitty would be able to look up at birds in the afterlife. Ugh! ❤ Makes me wanna tear up a bit.
I can hardly believe I'm spending nearly 5 hours on a 'free from work' Saturday afternoon watching someone else play a computer game. I'm only half way through as I write, but the compulsion to keep with it until the end is now overpowering. So much fun, especially with Goobsters on the helm, and community (sometimes) helping! I might have to re-try some of the other Nancy Drew walkthroughs now; they haven't really clicked with me in the past; but this one certainly has! It's tuning out to be a wonderful way to flitter the afternoon away. Both the atmosphere, the plot, and the puzzles are well above par for this genre, IMO. And many of the conversations are actually well written. Good voice acting and interesting characters too. (Even Lily's fast talking is entirely accurate for a young, intelligent student. Reminds me a lot of Anne Miller, one of the QI Elves, who talks _so_ fast that sometimes I have trouble even separating the words, let alone keeping up with what an entire sentence means!) But the Prof Hotchkiss calls are as much of a joy as riding a bike downhill with a backpack full of gold ingots. Her metaphors are the living embodiment of pushing a petri dish under a squirrel coated in wax floating in an aquarium full of Gobiidae. So much fun, and so genuinely funny too. Edit: You and the communities bird knowledge is very amusing. But I loved 'not duck'. lol. Going to use that for anything I can't identify from now on. OT: Did you know that Agatha Christie (aka "a sausage machine, a perfect sausage machine") at one point apparently knew more about archaeology than any other woman alive at the time? She is also thought to be the first Western woman to stand up on a surfboard! Not really related to Egyptology as such, but I've been constantly reminded of this watching this video.
One of the things I loved the most about this game was the atmosphere! The spooky music inside the tomb, the story of the past archaeologist team there, the details of the art and hieroglyphs, it really made it feel like you were there inside an ancient Egyptian pyramid. SUCH a cool feeling for a great game! And now I get to watch Gab play it too!
I don't know if you've heard of it, but SpiritFarer is an amazing game, I'm still playing. I've dropped like 20 hours in already (but I'm only like 25% through bc I'm taking my time). It is one of the most cathartic gentle and story driven games I've ever played. I think you'd really enjoy it. That is all. ❤
Gotta love how archeology is just... we believe these amulets were meant to help the dead in their journey to the afterlife... let's just unwrap this dead body and take them all...
I only learned about Hatshepsut since COVID when I was marathoning some history books. I highly recommend anyone read more about her. She is so kickass. I often am able to find books that have short essays on little known historical figures (mostly female) that I can then find full length nonfiction on. Boudicca is another badass, not from Egypt, but definitely should be explored more.
a few seconds in and gabs already knows the brits had bad intentions. And there is so much incest in every royal family, god forbid they let in "unpure" blood to their family line. Gabs being confused by everything anyone says is the most relatable thing 😂 Also Sonny Joon is a full blown cultist wtf is this?? His alien theories are giving me serious ptsd from studying mormonism and it's high-key concerning 😰 Absolutely loved this game can't wait for more! (can someone fill me in on which Nancy games we've skipped and why?)
This game got the complexity of Egyptian hieroglyphics right. I remember reading a book about the god Set (or Seth) and one of the more significant chunks of the title was all the different ways you could spell his name out, and the various meanings just this one name had in specific contexts, and how even the etymology of the word "Set/Seth" had myriad perfectly feasible origins and meanings prior to becoming that name of this particular god. Mind you this same book devoted a no less considerable amount of pages talking about Set's penis too, so there's that.
I'm so excited for the newest one coming out about Prague - it's been years since they last released a game, and I with they would tell us a date when the new one will come out!
I've been ill all day and have had a migraine, this was the perfect calm and quiet 5 hours of content I needed. Shoutout to the editor for not doing sound effects or flashy transitions, I appreciate you
I didn't manage to catch the streams, but this is my personal favorite game from the Nancy series. I was nuts for ancient civilizations and mythology as a preteen, and this game hit all the right notes for me. Now I'm kind of horrified by Nancy's awful archeology practices 😅😂, but I think it's still a fun game with good puzzles and the UI improvements were very welcome. I'm glad you also enjoyed it!
Not the hieroglyphic code being translated perfectly into the Latin alphabet with modern English words😭 no wonder it was taking the poor archeologist forever to translate it.
This one is in my top 5 for sure! Such a wild game from start to finish with great puzzles. Very entertaining, if not exactly the way the devs intended. I lost my damn mind when she broke the seal the first time I played.
YESS more ND! Even though I played this myself forever ago, the line: "Even if a lion could speak the kings English, we would still not understand him" is such a throwaway but I think about it STILL once a week.
I used to be obsessed with Egypt as a kid, even taught myself a bunch of heiroglyphs; a lot of this video has basically been me trying to see who can solve the glyph puzzles faster, me or Gab XD
Idk if it covered it in game or not, but Jamila is one of many with that belief. The Anunna/Anunnaki were a collection of ancient Mesopotamian gods, and also sometimes used when talking of a city who follows one certain god in a pantheon. Some believed, though, that they were lizard people, or aliens, who taught people how to act and build.
I forgot to mention but Anunna was also used when referring to the underworld and specifically, from what I found, when Inanna was being judged for trspassing
this was one of the few (pc) nancy games we owned!! i really it and the egypt scooby doo movie, lol. they definitely fueled my interest in ancient egypt as a kid 💙
This is EXACTLY what I need right now. A nice long Nancy video by Gab ♥ I'm up all night monitoring my cat after a surgery, so this is just the most perfect video to keep me company ♥
1:05:54 I think the one you’re talking about is Zahi Hawass. He is a prominent Egyptologist but he can be pretty arrogant. He pretty much kicked Dr. Joann Fletcher out of Egypt/banned her when she announced she thought she found Nefertiti’s tomb. He kicked her out/banned her and then went on to claim HE had found a tomb with Nefertiti. He has quite the ego.
Fun fact: The Annunaki are a real thing . They are based on a series of books by Zacariah Sitchin. While I don't believe anyone know what they 'look like", he apparently got all his information off of Sumerian clay tablets. I had a neighbor who was a real believer but the idea of aliens remains to be mythical and up to you to believe or disbelieve. I'm not sure myself.
I’m going to preface what I’m about to say by admitting I haven’t reached the end of the video yet, so I don’t know who the culprit is. As someone who has heard of the Annunaki and the work of Cultural Anthropologist Zachariah Sitchin, I have to admit that I wasn’t fond of Evelien’s outright dismissal of Jamila’s beliefs. Particularly since Jamila seems to be the only one who gives a damn about not exploiting Queen Nefertari’s remains. Please don’t get me wrong: I *ADORE* Evelien! But one could easily dismiss _anybody’s_ religious or cultural ideologies- especially from an ethnicity different from ones own- as “crazy.” My own personal beliefs are more along the category of “open-minded;” not necessarily adhering to one in particular, so I wasn’t happy with the tone of the aforementioned dismissal.
@@Lesley_RedRhody Unfortunately the book, Stichin and von Däniken were all...well, let's just say they were on the losing side of WW2. Their "theories" are badly researched if at all, and mainly aimed at pretending brown people didn't build mighty civilizations on their own.
@@Lesley_RedRhody I was very mad that they made the Egyptian woman look like a nutty alien conspiracy theorist and I have very strong views against ancient aliens theorists, particularly in Egypt and Sumer (and Mesoamerica), but the reason for both of those is the same thing: ancient aliens theories are inherently racist. Their theories say that things like written language and pyramids/ziggurats could not have been developed with the knowledge held by these ancient (not European) people and yet we never hear that aliens built the aqueducts or the Pantheon (which architects today agree would be almost impossible for us to build using modern methods, let alone 2000 years ago). In part this is because European culture largely sees itself as an inheritor of the Graeco-Roman tradition and because we know we're smart and capable and these are our cultural ancestors, then of course they could have built it. Ancient aliens theorists do not provide that same courtesy to cultures with darker skin. And so the fact that the game made the Egyptian woman appear to be the ancient aliens believer was hugely insulting. (Also, Stichin may be a trained cultural anthropologist, but he is almost entirely disgraced. There is so much blatant misrepresentation of Sumerian archaeology and language in his work that he is the most despised academic in my field [Sumerology], not because his theories are 'out there', but because he twists and misrepresents the archaeology to suit his narrative). I don't have much belief one way or another about the existence of aliens and don't care if other people do believe, but the ancient aliens theories are racist and completely unsubstantiated. And I understand where you are coming from, the fact that they put that into the mouth of an Egyptian woman makes it harder and much more insulting, but ideas of ancient aliens cannot be given legitimacy and outright dismissal is not a step too far in both my personal and professional opinion. We owe it to the ancient peoples of Egypt and Mesopotamia to appreciate them for their skills, because to devalue them is to devalue their descendants who still live in that land today.
Another fun fact: if you look up 'Sumerian statues' you'll see what Stichin and his band of racist a-holes think the Anunnaki looked like. They have really big eyes and look kind of weird, so of course they're aliens... (It also completely ignores the fact that Anunnaki (A.NUN.NA.KE4.NE) is just the Sumerian word that they used to refer to their pantheon, it literally translates to 'all the gods' and we have all sorts of images of their different gods, who look kind of like any other pantheon, with the possible exception of Inanna whose iconography is a little more unique, but still not wacky).
Nothing gets me pumped and in a better mood more consistently than seeing a new Nancy Drew video!! This one took some time for me to complete, but I'm excited to watch you play it!!
It was not only common in Egypt but in a lot of other royal families over the millenia for them to be incest (Fathers and Daughters, Mothers and Sons, Brothers and Sisters, Cousins and Cousins, etc.) It was done that way because they wanted a 'Pure' bloodline. In other words, keep it in the family. They didn't want the royal bloodline tainted by blood outside of the family. It's sad because a lot of babies that came out of the unions died of complications because of that very hope. Others that survived were often sick or even developed birth defects.
I have played these games since I was a child, so imagine my excitement when I found out a BRAND NEW ND game is in the works!! It's called Mystery of the Seven Keys and takes place in Prague! I really hope the devs took the criticism from Midnight in Salem and improved on the new one.
This was so much fun!! Just love Nancy Drew!! Can watch this again and again!! Can't wait for the next one!! I still can't believe how you figure out all of these puzzles!! Thanks Gab!! Off to find my next adventure!!❤❤
IIRC, it was believed that as long as your name was remembered, you would exist in the afterlife (i may be wrong, but...) That means that, despite the atrocities committed in the name of archeology, these pharaohs are now remembered by millions of people. I wonder how it feels to be forgotten, starved of essence and memory, and then remembered in such a huge burst... That would be overwhelming.
I grew up with these games and as an adult I love horror movies. It’s my dream for Her Interactive to make a Nancy Drew game where she finds a severed head and has to track down or escape a serial killer. Keep Nancy Drewing it, Gab! ❤
based on the list of games the remaining nancy drew games including: the deadly device, silent spy, the shattered medallion, labrynth of lies, and the sea of darkness are left to play aside from the 2 not on steam nancy drew games stay tuned for danger and ransom of the seven ships and the 2 side nancy drew dossier games that feel less nancy drew: lights camera curses and resorting to danger
This made my night, I always love when the nancy notif pops up ❤️ It's very funny that Jamila is next to the painting resembling the "dendera light". Miniminuteman has a really good video explaining it but it's basically the alien conspiracy theorists thinking it's the depiction of a lightbulb bc it "looks" like one 😂 it's actually a depiction of the egyptian creation myth.
about the incest thing, i was not shocked since it is royal family and they want to keep their family "pure royal blood". i also remembered that they discovered the youngest Egyptian pharoh king tut, instead of looking like a handsome, charming and confident young king he instead look very deformed. he was very sick and relies on a walking stick to go around because his parents are brother and sister possibly his grandparents too. edit: apparently his mother is still up to debate, no one really knows. some say his parents were siblings, some say they were cousins, some say his mother was nefertiti therefore she is akhenaten's cousin. honestly idk theres a lot of articles that say different things from different years.
I especially love these games for the niche little nuggets of knowledge you get from reading the books and such. It's so lovely. Thank you as always for playing! :)
"We found the gold coffin" what do you mean we? Nancy has been doing everything 😂 y'all've been here how long? Nancy has been there for like 2 days and already found several rooms and coffins lol some experts 😂😅 brother's still looking at that wall trying to decipher the hieroglyphs 😂😂😂
:) :) A little Nancy funny business to lift everyone's spirits! What a neat choice. :) (and that split-second edit that ZOOOMed in on the intense NPC stare........that killed me! lol lol Nice)
Nothing like watching Gab play a Nancy Drew game about ancient egypt to make me want to brush up on my knowledge of ancient egypt. Okay square eared god in the platform puzzle wasn't actually a bird it was Set and it isn't really clear what animal he's supposed to represent just that he's a mammal of some sort I think.
I once met a dude who was like Jamila Randomly started chatting to me about aliens and that we will be picked up by them and I was one of the chosen ones He also started talking about Zeus and showed me a picture of him and I shit you not, it was Olaf from Disney's Frozen with the body of a bodybuilder
I've never been invested in a game of "Chutes (Snakes) and Ladders" in all my life. That game at the start isn't an exact match, but its close enough. Regardless, I was actually more interested in that silly board game than I had any reason to be. lol Oh yeah, there's more video. I'd better watch that too. ;)
"If you do not have enough faith in humans to believe that we invented pushing, dragging, and lifting without the help of aliens, you are terminally wrong" is still one of my absolute favourite Nancy quotes lmao, as well as "who cares? Unless they're sending us a bill, does it matter?" 😂😂😂
I was so so excited for this one. It was such a great one to watch and I think my favourite so far. I do love egypt themed things so may be a bit biased. Also don't forget these games are a few years ago and not quite recent - though Nancy, stop touching things that could turn to dust.
I honestly belief that ppl back than were way smarter when it came to construction and building stuff. Just look at those old monuments. Scientists still don't know the exact meassurements for the mortar they used back then and the buildings are still standing... without modern machines and stuff ppl HAD to be creative

Nancy Drew and the Tomb of Destroying Incredible New Archeological Discoveries 😂
If possible, I'd like to see a bit of that list, I love to hear from someone on the field that are depicted in games and movies.
This leads on to some of our critiques of the excavation:
- If the tomb really was swallowed by sand then almost all of the paint should have been rubbed off by the coarse grains over thousands of years.
They seriously couldn't have given her a single shabti?)
With all that having been said, there was also a lot that was at least close to accurate and I loved the game, getting to complain about things and yell at Nancy for destroying stuff honestly made it even more fun.
Think we have a Nancy drew in our chat Evelyn. Not a bad thing, right. ☺
Thank you so much for sharing this! I always love hearing how accurate/inaccurate these games are from experts
21:35 I took an Archaeology/Anthropology class years ago and I still remember my Professor saying, specifically, about the Pharaoh's family that "It was less a Family Tree and more a Family Ladder."
Dylan going ‘DO YOU KNOW WHY ENGLAND TRIED TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD?’ out of nowhere made me wheeze
Now that Gab is in this era of Nance I'm excited for the deadly device and terrifed for the shattered medallion.
I can't wait for The Silent Spy!
@@Stephy09sNewChannel Same!
Super fun story elements, but it just drags on sometimes
Nancy is an absolute menace, lol. Here's my tidbits for this game:
- I definitely thought Dylan was Australian when I played this as a teenager. Still thought so while replaying it recently until he said something about being English and then I went ??? 😅
- The bonus edition of the game (that you got if you preordered it from Her Interactive) lets you call that number for SPIED. You only ever get brief answering machine clips, but they're kinda funny. I especially like "If you're calling to report a UFO sighting, please remember to include your location. The sky is very large."
- Lily has the same VA as Lukas, the little kid in Germany. You can really tell when she says "See ya!"
- Chat was losing it over Nancy being the worst archeologist in history, but it can actually get even worse. You can smash one of the pots in the antiquities tent for an Easter egg. D:
- For decoding the special hieroglyphs, you can use your own keyboard instead of clicking on the letters up top.
Oh and most nail polish uses halal ingredients, so long as we do our researched on what is used to make nail polish, we can definifely wear them!
Wow I had no idea ransom of the seven ships wasn't sold anymore..... ALSO gabs hasn't played stay tuned for danger, is that still available? I still have the CD for it 😅
@@frayy_y That seems pretty inconvenient. If I had to take off the polish everyday, I wouldn't even wear it! Props to your friend for her dedication
The eye-roll Gab does in 1:24:47, I lol and can relate so much! I love Ancient Egypt and the whole aliens conspiracy thing just pisses me off.
3:30:53 actually, Nance, it says ‘hey I’m thousands of years old maybe you should WEAR SOME GLOVES OR SOMETHING and not doodle on me while you’re at it’
“All of the Nancy Drew games are consistently good”
*sweats in shattered medallion*
What does this mean T.T ( if you don't mind me asking)
@@katkyamko70 lol fans of the ND games pretty much collectively hate the shattered medallion, there are some things about it that are fun but overall it’s not well planned out in my opinion :)
**Sweats in Trail of the Twister**
What Senet IS, is one of the earliest board games that we have complete examples of from archaeological sites!
the fact that Jamila was standing infront of the "dendera light" is just peak archeology humour
Absolutely love when Gab plays these games! So much nostalgia and always so impressed how quickly she figures out puzzles!
2:00:29 Bess's "long distance burn, jazz guy" is peak humor
Reminds me a lot of Anne Miller, one of the QI Elves, who talks _so_ fast that sometimes I have trouble even separating the words, let alone keeping up with what an entire sentence means!)
But the Prof Hotchkiss calls are as much of a joy as riding a bike downhill with a backpack full of gold ingots.
I cackled when I saw the Dendara Light relief. And of course it would be the backdrop for the ancient aliens girl.
Just got home from work, made dinner, and see that Gab has uploaded a new Nancy Drew playthrough. What a wonderful day!
Its so so so cool. My ancestors are from egypt. Its so cool to learn the hieroglyphs and beliefs. Its sooooo so cool. I wanna study it so bad
Haha, the British Museum joke at the very beginning 🤣
Gotta love how archeology is just... we believe these amulets were meant to help the dead in their journey to the afterlife... let's just unwrap this dead body and take them all...
I only learned about Hatshepsut since COVID when I was marathoning some history books. I highly recommend anyone read more about her. She is so kickass. I often am able to find books that have short essays on little known historical figures (mostly female) that I can then find full length nonfiction on. Boudicca is another badass, not from Egypt, but definitely should be explored more.
I stan crazy lady Jamla🤣 gotta love a dash of crazy sprinkled in a Nancy Drew game
a few seconds in and gabs already knows the brits had bad intentions. And there is so much incest in every royal family, god forbid they let in "unpure" blood to their family line. Gabs being confused by everything anyone says is the most relatable thing 😂
Also Sonny Joon is a full blown cultist wtf is this?? His alien theories are giving me serious ptsd from studying mormonism and it's high-key concerning 😰
Absolutely loved this game can't wait for more! (can someone fill me in on which Nancy games we've skipped and why?)
2nd is not available for many gaming sites, 20nd is off the release because of racist culprit ig
I have quite literally never clicked so fast! Looking forward to having a chill day watching this :)!

I'm so excited for the newest one coming out about Prague - it's been years since they last released a game, and I with they would tell us a date when the new one will come out!
Ayeee they include Tiye (Tee) and Hatshepsut. My literal faves. I have a lapis lazuli figure of Hatshepsut in my house. She protects my bookcase.
I've been ill all day and have had a migraine, this was the perfect calm and quiet 5 hours of content I needed. Shoutout to the editor for not doing sound effects or flashy transitions, I appreciate you
Yes! Just binged all your Nancy games in order and there's a new one now! Thanks Evelien!!!!!!!!
tbh, of COURSE there would be crazy alien conspiracy theorists in a tomb with a depiction of the “Dendera Light”. that thing attracts nutty people.
4:05:25 my favourite moment where I, Gabs and Nancy were all in sync 😂😂😂
Stopped everything in my tracks, got my snacks and silenced my phone. Do not disturb me for the next 4 hours 52 minutes and 49 seconds. 😍
Professor Hotchkiss is everything I want to be in life.
I used to be obsessed with Egypt as a kid, even taught myself a bunch of heiroglyphs; a lot of this video has basically been me trying to see who can solve the glyph puzzles faster, me or Gab XD
I'm an anthropology student (with a life-long love of Egypt!) and these types of games make my heart feel so full!

But one could easily dismiss _anybody’s_ religious or cultural ideologies- especially from an ethnicity different from ones own- as “crazy.”
My own personal beliefs are more along the category of “open-minded;” not necessarily adhering to one in particular, so I wasn’t happy with the tone of the aforementioned dismissal.
I personally believe there ARE aliens out there. In our vast, ever expanding universe, there is NO WAY we're the only living things in existence.
Nothing gets me pumped and in a better mood more consistently than seeing a new Nancy Drew video!! This one took some time for me to complete, but I'm excited to watch you play it!!
I was singing the songs from the Prince of Egypt the entire time watching you play this. I love the nancy games so much
Whenever I see the word Egypt written out I think of the Red Skelton joke where he pronounces it like “egg-wiped” (eg-ypt) 😭
I’ve only just started the video but that music is gorgeous 🥰
It was not only common in Egypt but in a lot of other royal families over the millenia for them to be incest (Fathers and Daughters, Mothers and Sons, Brothers and Sisters, Cousins and Cousins, etc.) It was done that way because they wanted a 'Pure' bloodline. In other words, keep it in the family. They didn't want the royal bloodline tainted by blood outside of the family. It's sad because a lot of babies that came out of the unions died of complications because of that very hope. Others that survived were often sick or even developed birth defects.
The way Nancy handled all the artifacts and started using spears as leverage and filling the wall lamp with modern oil, etc had me *stressed*, haha!😂
I love these videos so much I put them on while I sleep at night lol the nostalgic style and camp of it is so relaxing

That would be overwhelming.
i think its very considerate that anient egyptians wrote all their ciphers in modern day english

Im pretty sure ransom of the seven ships is the “racist one we skipped” that she mentioned at the end, so I dont think she’ll be playing it XD
This made my night, I always love when the nancy notif pops up ❤️
It's very funny that Jamila is next to the painting resembling the "dendera light". Miniminuteman has a really good video explaining it but it's basically the alien conspiracy theorists thinking it's the depiction of a lightbulb bc it "looks" like one 😂 it's actually a depiction of the egyptian creation myth.
MINIMINUTEMAN FAN AAA
YYYYEEEESSSSSSS MORE NANCY!! Gab + Nancy = bffs for life
about the incest thing, i was not shocked since it is royal family and they want to keep their family "pure royal blood". i also remembered that they discovered the youngest Egyptian pharoh king tut, instead of looking like a handsome, charming and confident young king he instead look very deformed. he was very sick and relies on a walking stick to go around because his parents are brother and sister possibly his grandparents too.
edit: apparently his mother is still up to debate, no one really knows. some say his parents were siblings, some say they were cousins, some say his mother was nefertiti therefore she is akhenaten's cousin. honestly idk theres a lot of articles that say different things from different years.
did she refer to specific video that we should watch? or just the topic? i didn’t quite catch it
The perfect video for a chill weekend at home with my cuddly cat
This has got to be one of my fav Nancy Due's you have done, i love every thing about Egypt so this was really fun to watch :) xxx
I love it when you can actually learn things from Nancy Drew games!
For example, I had no idea that ancient Egyptians spoke English all the time! 🤯
I’m sick with a stomach bug and fever right now and this is the perfect escape. Thank you!
omg me too, hope you feel better soon 😩❤️
Get well soon 💕
I especially love these games for the niche little nuggets of knowledge you get from reading the books and such. It's so lovely. Thank you as always for playing! :)
You're an absolute queen for playing all these games 🩷
I was just thinking how much i can't wait for another Nancy Drew game from you! Thanks Gab!❤
I've been a fan of these since I was a kid, but this is my first time seeing this all the way through--your videos are really fun.
:) :) A little Nancy funny business to lift everyone's spirits! What a neat choice. :)
(and that split-second edit that ZOOOMed in on the intense NPC stare........that killed me! lol lol Nice)
Honestly, “I’m an eejit and I need your help” is a whole mood 😂
Nothing like watching Gab play a Nancy Drew game about ancient egypt to make me want to brush up on my knowledge of ancient egypt. Okay square eared god in the platform puzzle wasn't actually a bird it was Set and it isn't really clear what animal he's supposed to represent just that he's a mammal of some sort I think.
I once met a dude who was like Jamila
Randomly started chatting to me about aliens and that we will be picked up by them and I was one of the chosen ones
He also started talking about Zeus and showed me a picture of him and I shit you not, it was Olaf from Disney's Frozen with the body of a bodybuilder
I've never been invested in a game of "Chutes (Snakes) and Ladders" in all my life. That game at the start isn't an exact match, but its close enough. Regardless, I was actually more interested in that silly board game than I had any reason to be. lol
Oh yeah, there's more video. I'd better watch that too. ;)
I have that board game they played in the beginning but never knew how it was played, now i do :D
Almost five hrs of Gab & Nancy. Sweet!
I look forward to every Nancy Drew game. So nice and cozy.
1:59:12 I'm Bess 😂😂😂
2:55:17 I said Lube 😂😅
3:27:51 Nancy: what are those?? Me: KNEE CAPS!
We get it Jamila, you want to fluff the aliens
I honestly belief that ppl back than were way smarter when it came to construction and building stuff. Just look at those old monuments. Scientists still don't know the exact meassurements for the mortar they used back then and the buildings are still standing... without modern machines and stuff ppl HAD to be creative
Oh my gosh yes!! I've been patiently awaiting for another Nancy Drew stream! I can't express how excited I am for this!
when I tell you that these Nancy drew videos get me through nursing school… thank you. I seriously look forward to these so much.
