Something about the 5 course plan gave me a pass-it-on idea. Pass-it-on Potluck edition. Rather than each person contributing to a single dish, each person contributes one dish to a single meal. Could be more interesting to have them to in blind not knowing what the other made. You may end up with 5 main courses or 5 side dishes. or 4 deserts and some booze.
Honestly, I’d love an episode where the normals show what their favorite mid week meal is that they make for their families. No fancy cheffing it up. Literally, “this is the jar I buy from the grocery store, here’s the box of noodles I use, etc.” Maybe after they’ve made it the way they always do then you can chef it up. I just think it would be interesting to see what they are making at home and what tricks they’ve learned from working here that they have taken home with them.
Something that's worth looking into for extending the longevity of your Air Fryer is not using pressurised spray oil in them. Certain brands have been found to attack the non-stick coatings inside the drawers. So normal oil in pump bottle is one option or you can now get perforated silicone mats to put inside that food wont stick to or stop air circulating. I've also been using parchment liners that do a similar job & also make it easier to lift food out of drawer types as you can hold onto the paper without burning yourself. Both make clean up a lot easier.
The oil isn't to stop it sticking, its to create a 'fried' like texture on the outside. The outside gets hotter if it is coated with oil, and cooks at a much more equal/consistent temperature. Try it next time you cook chips in your air fryer. Try a batch with no oil, and then a batch after mixing them in a bowl with a dash of oil, you'll see a huge difference in the outside texture.
You can buy refillable oil 'mister' bottles that you pump up to 'pressure' and they deliver an aerosol like mist. They work 'OK' in my experience but do tend to be a little messy - somehow oil gets out and onto the outside of the bottle... maybe some residual pressure although I do vent the pressure when I'm done. I've had these to use with Olive and Avocado oil for a decade or more.
@@ukgroucho Yeah its manual pump bottles I use. You have to use a light oil though, and it also works better the warmer & so less viscous the oil is. Also if you can have a play around in the shop before you buy some have much better quality pumps than others. Or like some of the others have said, light manual application to the food before putting it in the basket also works.
I'm disabled and my air fryer has been a literal lifesaver. I mostly use it for frozen foods and reheating, but it is so much easier than using my oven and it does a better job than most other appliances, love seeing them being taken more seriously!
Same! I live by myself and swapped a ‘proper’ oven for an air fryer that has shelves and an opening door - basically like a normal oven, just convection. Can do rotisserie chicken in it and all sorts! Heats up in less than 2 mins, best thing I’ve ever bought 😍
@@Luckmann I am also disabled and I live alone - and the Air Fryer has one advantage - I do not have to heat a whole Huge oven - to get foods cooked. I have a single basket one that is perfect for a single person
After realising that I’ve gone from having frozen turkey dinosaurs and potato smiley faces and beans as a kid to cooking most of my meals fresh from scratch, I think a video where the guys use frozen or premade food in a unique and different way would be a good video! I’m gonna have to go down memory lane and think what I had as a kid and try and think of things myself!
@@Virginiafox21 I think they’ve done frozen food as like a cheat as they did that series on tinned food but I think already “pre-made” foods or food we had as a kid but transformed would be a bit of a different spin and would be interesting E; I mean a great example was when they used gnocci instead of mash on a fish pie in a recent episode
I have a food processor and dinosaur cookie cutters... I have scratch made dino-nuggies in my freezer. I didn't know it was possible to outgrow the greatness that is dino-nuggies.
@@PonderingDolphin They are better than store freezer isle, but gourmet dino-nuggies doesn't impress the ladies as much as I wish they did. 1lb turkey/chicken meat, rough cut 1 Tbs instant potato flakes 1/3 c cold water seasonings to taste Make a paste out of it in the processor, flatten and freeze slightly, cut out dino shapes, bread them, and freeze them solid. I like using panko with a little bit of finely grated parm as my breading. I change up seasoning to what I'm feeling at the time. You can split the paste and make 2 flavors even.
I love using the air fryer as it's so much easier for one person or small amounts and doesn't require heating and prepping the oven. One of my fav features is being able to set the time and not worry about it overcooking or burning (once you know times). Can be used as a toaster too to reheat breads.
This is what I've found also. Great option for a single or couple but a space eater for large families. My sister couldn't live without hers, but I have no use for one. I make large meals for 4-12 people, and the air fryers aren't helpful to me. If I need to save time, I'll dump everything in a crockpot in the morning or choose one-pot meals. I love air-fryers for their intended market, but not worth the price/space for me.
Air "friers" are essentially smaller convection ovens. They are not really replacements for actual deep fat friers, but convection ovens. Air friers are waaaaaaaay more portable than ovens.
@@franciscodetonne4797 That was what I was wondering, Thank you for answering. I don’t know much about these gadgets but have been curious. Watching this video it seems it’s nothing more than a small convection oven and you confirmed that. 💖
@@jamyedowell245 Quite the opposite if you have children since they can use it for snacks. It's also useful for quickly roasting some vegetables or peppers to add to another dish.
@@MtnNerd depends on the child. Mine is autistic, and can't be left unattended with the microwave. But if I'm roasting veggies, I'm already heating the oven up for some other part of the meal, which brings me back to, I see the benefits for some, but not myself.
We have been using an airfryer for about a year now. Really love it. The name "AirFryer" is a bit of a misnomer - think of it as a small, very efficient and fast fan forced oven. Most things you cook in an oven can be cooked in a preheated airfryer in 1/2 the time. This includes frozen foods like nuggets, fish etc.
I also wish they still did the battles with all three of them in the kitchen at the same time; I think they stopped because of COVID, but now that they're clearly able to be in the studio together again, I wish they'd go back to that format!
I feel like many of the "fun" elements of Sorted have sort of.. disappeared lately. Obviously still love the gang, but the silly battles and stuff aren't being made anymore:(
@@azreal2309 Does it really it matter if the end result is entertaining and free content? I mean, I totally get that trust and transparency are always a concern, to a degree and should always be handled with care especially as a channel becomes bigger. But as long as the content doesn't turn into glorified infomercials, is sponsored content like this a problem and does it matter how much profit is made from the content they offering for free for us to consume? It's not like they are news channel or even a review channel like that, where sponsorship, bias and profits are a much more major concern. At the end of the day, they are a casual food channel and it shouldn't matter just how much money they are making or how profitable the channel is, but instead we should care more about the quality and entertainment value of said content. If they can find a way to make a sponsored video like this one as equally entertaining and quality level as there other content, and at the same time make a quick buck, than I'm all for it personally. Otherwise, I'll just avoid these videos, which helpfully by youtube rules (and actual laws in most countries) have to be clearly labeled as sponsored content making them somewhat easier to identify and avoid if needed.
Love this! I bought an air fryer recently, to save ££ and as my apartment gets so hot in the summer. Also b/c I bought one for my 80yr old mum as she struggles lifting stuff in and out of the big oven now. She’s a gourmet home cook and expected to hate the air fryer, but I said it was just a small convection oven, she started testing stuff, and LOVES it. Going to send her these recipes…
Oh wow, that's amazing to hear! They are great for hot apartments, saving space and electric, along with those who struggle to lift heavy things. We hope you enjoyed the video :)
The energy saving aspect of it is very relevant to me. If I only want to do a tray of veggies, heating up the whole oven for it seems like a waste, that's where the air fryer is more convenient for us.
Exactly. It's just a small convection oven. And a lot of modern ovens have a fan, making them at least quasi convection ovens. I think the real advantage to an "air fryer" is it's small size. It should use less energy, simply because it's heating up less air, and has less surface area to lose that heat through. I really need to do some research and then pick one and buy it. The small size is perfect for me, and i need an oven badly, as the house i am in has a built in oven, and it doesn't work. Which is NOT going to be cheap to replace...
Got one recently and have been using it for absolutely everything - lots of my recipes that need an oven or deep fryer translate really well and it saves so much time. Favourite dishes so far have been turmeric/paprika spiced chicken, sweet potato wedges, takoyaki and banana fritters with a cinnamon/coconut crumb. Going to have to try that very inventive looking salmon/bombay mix combination and doughnuts - all of it looks great!
Stuffed mushrooms are a go to air fryer dish from us - easy app to make without having to wait forever on the oven to pre heat We also freeze cookie dough and scoop out single servings to bake 2-3 at a time for fresh cookie desserts
We got a air fryer last year we've mostly use it when we're cooking breaded food like onion rings breaded chicken or mozzarella sticks the air fryer makes these foods so crispy it's crazy
What I would want out of an Air fryer Video would be a 1:1 comparison with a normal convection oven, i.e. normal oven with a fan. Because in my mind I dont see how an air fryer would be anything different aside from being more convenient for small portions. So I would love to see if there is something a regular air fryer can do that I cant just do with my oven the exaxt same way.
As someone with a convection, I agree. However, not every home has a convection. These are a lot cheaper and cook faster than a traditional convection.
As someone with a convection oven, my air fryer cooks things a lot faster and generally has more consistent results. Also it takes barely any time to preheat and based on my high level comparison uses less electricity than using the oven. Maybe my convection oven isn't as good but to me the air fryer is the oven on steroids. I regularly roast whole chicken (around 1.8kg) in less than an hour start to finish and it has juicy insides with crispy skin!
Some air fryer favorites? Frozen tots work well. Roasted Brussel Sprouts are fantastic. Lemon pepper tilapia (13 min in a cold air fryer set to 375 F from frozen, sprayed with olive oil and with lemon pepper seasoning added) is a nice "impulse" entrée. and of course, an approximation of a cake doughnut is possible using a can of pre-made buttermilk biscuit dough the same way you made your yeast doughnuts... The possibilities are endless.
Love my air fryer. Simple, easy to clean, can be faster than other methods of cooking. Pro tip: Nothing beats an air fryer for reheating fried foods without them getting soggy or overcooked.
I lived out of my air fryer and my instant pot and a microwave for 2 years. And air fryer is just a glorified convection oven. I made everything. My favorite thing is probably homemade french fries. They're so stinking easy. The other is wings. Homemade wings never got easier. I have one that is a toaster oven/airfryer combo and can't imagine living without it. I really like that Instant one, but I don't think I'll ever be able to afford it.
Frozen meatballs in the air fryer are amazing. They get the maiyard reaction on the outside of the entire ball and since they're frozen the inside stays juicy.
French fries (chips) either fresh or frozen are great in the air fryer. We do a simple salmon with honey glaze in the fryer. I'm cooking for just the two of us - seniors - and love the air fryer - doesn't heat up the house, doesn't encourage oversized portions, and is super easy to clean (I do use foil in the fryer to minimize mess).
Would love to see meals cooked using a single basket air fryer while also using either the stove or oven. I bought a single basket vortex air fryer and would prefer not having to go out and buy a larger, 2 basket one which is easily over $150. For example, the chicken and potatoes meal could have done one in the oven and one in the single basket air fryer.
The oven, having more volume would take longer. Maybe a single basket recipe where everything is in the same basket an you add the things with the shortest cook time last. Like maybe roast the potatoes first and then add the chicken on top which also gives the added bonus of having the potatoes roasted with chicken fat.
I've been using mine for seafood a lot lately, shrimp, tuna, salmon, and scallops. Shrimp in particular is super easy, just lay them out on the tray right out of the freezer, rinse them until the excess ice is gone if it's present so that it doesn't drip into the floor of the fryer (which creates a lot of steam and keeps the shrimp from crisping at all), salt and pepper and whatever other seasonings you'd want, and then straight into the fryer for 8 to 10 minutes at 400 depending on the size of the shrimp you bought. A light spray of olive oil isn't bad on them either, though I've been skipping it lately. The fish I thaw out first, and the scallops. 400 for 6-8 minutes and they turn out pretty great. The oil is a lot more important on the fish if you want them to develop a bit of color
Love my air fryer. Think more like a mini oven and hay presto lots of options. Great to see other recipe's in an airfryer. Well done Guys loved this one.
It's literally just a convection oven. I don't get why everyone gets so excited about them in the UK. They've been marketed hard, and people have fell for it.

there's no comparison. you can tell which was air fried and which was not. Traditional deep fat frying leaves a\ lot more oil. Air fried food, the only fats you really get come from the food itself. dead easy to tell the difference, so not really a fair challenge.
I have a Cosori air fryer and make a lot of wings. If you coat them in just a tiny bit of flour or cornstarch, they get super crispy and it’s a tiny bit healthier than straight up deep frying them :)
When I was looking into Air fryers I read that it’s basically the same as baking something on the fan setting and that you could just use a toaster oven instead which has definitely a larger capacity. I would love to see a video comparing the two to see if they really can do similar things. I have a microwave with a fan section so I’m thinking I could probably do the same recipes in there
For my experience the main difference is that toaster ovens go up to maybe 200 Celsius Max and I'm doubtful that the inside gets to that temperature while the air fryer reliably gets the inside to 240° . I'm just putting this information there in case you want to take recipes intended for one and then switch it with another
Yes. My ovens have convection setting which I’ve read is the same as or very similar to air frying. I also have trays that have holes/mesh bottoms so that the fan forced heat can get to the bottoms of the food and you don’t need to shake or flip the food item. My ovens cook as hot as 240c
@@bereasonable8018 That's what I thought until I got my IP Pro Crisp, which has an air fryer lid. I find the air fryer function is much more energy efficient, and is much better to use when it's hot out as it doesn't warm up the kitchen as much. I also find the air circulating around the smaller space makes the food crispier and it's faster to cook things (I have a convection oven and the special 'air fryer' pan with the holes in it). I've been so impressed with it that I'm looking into getting a stand alone air fryer as I find what comes out of IP when I use the Air Fryer lid is better than what comes out of my convection toaster oven.
@@bestaqua23 Yeah the air fryer is smaller so the heat is more concentrated that it would be in a normal domectic oven. That cuts down on time, but there's a danger of under-cooking to the core, and the video shows that some of those chicken thighs are still showing signs of blood, which would lead me to put them back in for a couple of minutes more, less crowded the second time. Like everything, you have to get used to your own equipment and how it operates.

I also find the air circulating around the smaller space makes the food crispier and it's faster to cook things" -- yeah, but it only works if you cook for one person (two, may be, if they don't eat much). An averege oven can roast twice as much for the same time. Even more, depending on the oven configuration and layout. It takes 20 mins to bake a full tray of wedged potato, and a tray of nuggets takes 15 at most, and If I'm ready to compromise on crispiness, then I can bake both at the same time. How many loads would I make to properly roast 1kg of potato and 600-700g of (possibly frozen) nuggets in an average single-tray fryer?
As someone with a super busy schedule i own one of these and it has been a life saver, I would constantly order takeout or buy some cheap easy food but with this thing I can cook a real meal so quickly and easily thanks for more recipe inspiration fellas. Keep it up!
I really like this concept, especially because it's a device we have in our house, and my parents don't want to cook with it anymore because do not like it. For us we really like some chips/French fries, but every time we make them in our air fryer the edges burn en the chips a solid. Now we can try some new recipes!
I'd love to see a pass it on with the unsung heroes of the channel, the crew that works with you guys behind the scenes. Ofcourse they might not like being filmed but wouldn't it be lovely if they either got to do one themselves, or pick the theme!
I’ve used my Philips air fryer for 10years! I’m one of the early adopters and got it when everyone was so skeptical about the (then) new technology… Love it and use it frequently till today
Now thats an air fryer, glad to see the idea was revisited from the last one since this things are becoming more and more prevalent because of time and specially their convenient size.
Thanks for doing an air fryer episode, I'm currently just doing frozen food and chicken wings, so something new like these dishes are great to know about. I think air fryers are great! less oil, quicker to cook and less energy!
I love my airfryer, but I have the Ninja one with the grill. I also love that it's always timed so you cannot forget about it and endanger the kitchen.
So did Barry order one before he went home? I love my tabletop convection oven (air fryer lol). I have a Ninja Foodie smart XL grill 6-in-1. The smart thermometer for cooking meat to temp and carry-over cooking is a brilliant feature.
I hear people bash on air fryers all the time, but I love mine. Mine isn't as fancy as this one, but it has the fryer basket or you can swap it out with a grill plate. I've roasted whole chickens, hamburgers from frozen to cooked in 12 minutes, many different vegetables. It's also nice to see some frozen foods now come with air fryer instructions on the back instead of just microwave and oven.
Would love a video with a normal air fryer that just air fries in one drawer? I understand the sponsorship was from InstantBrands re their duo version which looks bloody amazing, tbh. So I enjoyed the video with that in mind. But so many of us just have the one drawer version and can’t upgrade just yet. Would love to see a few more air fryer recipes, using it to prep elements of one meal, make a one-pot meal, or full chef-level gourmet air fryer recipes… Cheers :)
You do the best sponsored videos, truly. Feels like it could just be "another one" of your videos. As a viewer, I always find the content inspiring and never forced. Just wanted to let you know!
Eating it rn, my favourite air fryer recipe is pesto salmon. Two salmon fillets which I rub with jar pesto and some extra oil. Cook for 13 minutes at 200C during which time I make sides.
I got an air fryer/multi cooker a few months ago and it gets used in some way or another in virtually every meal I make. I live alone so heating the entire conventional oven/grill seems pretty wasteful when I can use a much smaller device that has things almost cooked before the main oven would even be up to temperature
I have two Instant brand air fryers, the 5.7 ltr Vortex+ single clear view drawer and the 8.5 ltr Versazone with the large drawer which has a removable separator to turn it into two individual drawers like the one you tested and with all the same functions,my traditional oven is now storage for air fryer accessories like dishes trays etc,the best thing ever is that it reaches the chosen temp in three minutes as apposed to fifteen to twenty in a normal oven and reduces the cooking time at least one third,so saving money on your energy bills, there are very few things that you can't prepare in an air fryer, cooking and baking, thanks for the great ideas on your video
Honestly the point that you just don't have the hassle of dealing with all the oil from a traditional fryer is what I appreciate the most. The result is slightly different however it is similar enough and delicious. my favourite dish would be roasted potatoes, you take your cooked taters and toss them in a colander so the outside gets nice and fluffed up and then you give them a spritz of oil season with whatever you want (rosmary, curry, just salt, a bit of nutmeg, really the options are quite numerous) and then IIRC 200° 20 minutes, toss half way through and you end up with beautiful crispy outsides and nice soft insides of potatoes. The result is much more even than in my oven, I guess if you have a modern high end oven it doesn't make a difference, but the air fryer model I have was much more affordable than a new oven.
I love my air fryer ❤️ had it since March last year and have only used my oven around 5 times since and got rid of my deep fryer. I cook everything in it. Thanks for the ideas guys 😁
I’ve been using an air fryer since they first appeared here in the USA about 12 years ago, loved them. Just bought a Brio air fryer/grill/rotisserie haven’t tried it yet but looking forward to doing so. My previous air fryers where “borrowed” and never returned😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
I bought a Breville Smart Oven last fall. I have cooked bread, cinnamon buns, whole chicken, roasts, ribs just about everything in it and it works just a a big oven does. I have only used my regular oven once since October. It has all the features of a regular oven and also has proof, air fry, pizza, toast, 13 different feature settings in all. Probably one of the best Air Fryers on the market today.
Make sure to oil the things you’re putting in outside the trays. Otherwise you’re left with a layer of oil residue on the rack/tray inside that becomes really sticky and really hard to clean.
What’s great about the air fryer is that if you’ve got a really small place or don’t want to heat up your place by turning on the oven, you can use the air fryer for so many purposes.
This right here. A lot of people here seem to think everyone makes massive amounts of money, lives in a large house with air conditioning and low electricity costs, and therefore they fail to realize they are not the target audience for these.
So glad you guys reviewed this! I’ve been nervous about getting an air fryer…just seemed to be an alternative for fatty frying that was still kinda fatty. But the asparagus was novel and you didn’t have to add any oil to the chicken. Very cool.
I roast chicken thighs and potatoes all the time, in my oven, cut up potatoes, roasting pan, put thighs on top and roast at 375 for 35 min, added advantage of potatoes cooking in the rendered fat
I would love for them to try Ecuadorian meals. One of my favorites being the seafood cazuela. Maybe something from the mountain region like Yahuarlocro or the Maito from the amazon region. Tbh I would love to see them trying Fanesca out, nut I truly doubt they would get a hold of all the ingredients for it.
Loved the video and was a pleasant surprise to see my comment featured! Funnily enough, I was eating air fried chicken thigh kebab I'd made in my Instant Vortex Plus just a while earlier 😊 I'd love to see Pass It On gadget edition 😀
I've got a countertop oven with an air fryer function, rather than one with drawers, but I absolutely echo what the guys say in this video. I don't use it much as a frying-replacement, but when it comes to fast cooking veggies and roasting meats/fish for weeknight meals, it's sooooo much faster and easier than trying to do it in the normal oven. The fact that I can also get crispy freezer snacks like chicken nuggets or spring rolls as well when I'm feeling snacky is even better.
I have the regular Instant Pot Vortex air fryer, not the plus one, but I love it. I cook fries, chicken, all sorts of potato dishes, fish, and I reheat with it. Reheating pizza is great since the crust and bottom gets crisp and the toppings are the perfect heat and consistency.
Our air fryer is also part toaster. I don't think we could do a lot of the dishes that you did based on the setup, but it's excellent for re-crisping up takeout or doing less fatty type cooking.
Look on Amazon for cheap silicone pans. I've had luck roasting small items in those in my toaster style air fryer. You want the ones with nubbly bottoms, not flat. I have cooked chicken and fish that way, also super crispy taco bake.
I just did a Pork Tenderloin in mine last night... but I do almost everything I can in mine. Brisket, ribs, pork chops, chicken, wings, cheesecake, bacon, pie... the list goes on. I even use it for a toaster and reheater.
one tip I have I have for getting the panko browner is to mix it in a bowl with oil (1 Tablespoon of oil per cup of panko). then microwave it for a couple of minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until golden brown. then pane as you normally would before air frying.
Would love to see you guys compare it with a traditional convection oven while blind tast testing. Just curious to know if there's a big difference or if it's just a mini-oven. Because in this video, you guys love the food but the food is good because of the ingredients, not because of the air fryer.
I thought the same, but then I grabbed an air fryer last week because it was on for a great price and I have wanted to know if it would live up to the hype. It does! It is much faster than my convection oven and it doesn't heat the whole house or consume as much hydro. I suspect it's faster because it's such a small space to heat up. The only downside from the oven is having to flip or shake the basket half way through the cook times for even cooking as the bottom of mine doesn't have another element. I am seriously considering in purchasing a more expensive brand that does have the bottom element as well. I have even baked sour dough in the air fryer.
With my engineer's hat on, air fryers seem to have, as their main principle, an efficient transfer of energy to the foodstuff. It is achieved by having a relatively small vessel, and relatively high volume of forced air convection. This means they are efficient in terms of energy and can cook food more efficiently. So, it follows that a traditional domestic oven can replicate what they do, in theory. In practice, the problem with the average domestic oven is that it is a bit of a dinosaur in terms of cooking & energy efficiency (i.e., they're not very good for the planet, and not so good at cooking). I think the acid test is cooking something like tandoori chicken which needs a high heat transfer. Recipes for standard ovens recommend using the highest setting, but I've never seen a domestic oven cook it well (they just can't get hot enough to char the meat before it has dried out). In a way, you are right. It IS just a mini oven, but it is a very efficient and effective oven. The misnomer about air fryers is the 'fryer' part of the name. They're not fryers, they're efficient ovens. By the way, it took me nearly 10 years to buy one. A friend had a Tefal Actifry and swore by it, but I never saw the point. It wasn't until my nephew bought one that I understood the principle and the possibilities.
@@horsenuts1831 if you have a oven with an hot air function it would basically be an air fryer in your regular oven, so comparing those 2 could be interesting
@@your46 To do a direct comparison would need you to exchange the fan in the oven to something that blows at storm force in order to force convection, and probably also require you to change the element to something bigger that was controlled by fuzzy logic rather than a bimetallic strip.
@@horsenuts1831 The idea was to see how a hot air function oven preforms compared to a air fryer so i dont see why you would modify the oven. And i disagree that you would need to change to a larger fan to get forced convection as a smaller fan would force convection aswell.
Yes, please! More air fryer videos. Back when we bought one we thought it would be just a novelty but we've been using them (we now have two) pretty much every week. Breaded cauliflower, breaded chicken tenders, breaded anything for that matter. And of course frozen stuff which you'd either have to fry or bake - often both at the same time done in the air fryer. And all kinds of potato things. The only downside is the relatively limited space in most of them, but the taste of stuff that wasn't completely soaked in oil is worth it.
I know this has been done a lot by a few channels but y’all should have the normals and Ben try to follow a recipe that was translated into different languages then back to English and see how they do😂
I gave my mom an air fryer for her birthday. She hasn't stopped using it since. She made a whole lemon pepper roast chicken in the air fryer and it came out amazing!
Air fryers can be a great addition to your kitchen... if you don't already have a convection oven. Which is all that an air fryer is: a countertop convection oven. Indeed, they've made countertop convection ovens for decades prior to the advent of the "air fryer". All they've really done is take the oven and make it bucket-shaped instead of drawer-shaped (and added some helpful programmable functions). It's effective, but it's not nearly as big an innovation as people think it is.
I was very skeptical about the utility of an air fryer and for quite a while didn't use the one we bought, which was used only to prepare quick snacks. But once I saw how useful it could be for meals, I began to use it, and now we have upgraded to one with two baskets and it gets used frequently each week.
my "goto" in my airfryer is a varston of fried ravoli. i season them with "Jane's crazy salt" and sprinkle on some canned shredded parm/ramano blend cheese in the last min so it doesn't burn.
I've had a couple of what I thought were cheaper airfryers over the years that I've loved. When I first started watching this video, I kind of rolled my eyes thinking "oh sure, they find a fancy machine with all kinds of settings and make it way easier." But looking at the product on both official page and through local retailers, the machine isn't that much more expensive than the cheap models with no extra functions. it's realistic for a home cook instead of some of the more commercial or ridiculously priced appliances the guys sometimes get to try out.
Wow, I find it interesting that Barry & Jamie have never used an air-fryer before; especially as they're the two "normals" with kids. I thought the speed, ease & small size of their kitchens would have pushed them down that root before now. I love alone & don't want to be heating up a large oven [& the kitchen with it on hot days], cooking for one. I just costs too much proportionately. It also cooks certain things better than a main oven, things like sausages, fish; both fresh & frozen comes out great. I had to retire my old "fishbowl" glass one after years of service & now alternate between a drawer one & a larger one that can also do rotisserie; like whole chickens or joints of meat as well as skewers/kebabs. I only have my large oven on when doing batch baking or rioating something very large like a turkey or leg of lamb. My electricity bills have gone down hugely.
Agree on the bills part! My electric and gas bills are really low cause I no longer use my gas oven or stove top, only my air fryer, an electric banquet pan or a dual electric stove top. I also owned two glass bowl convection/halogen cooker ovens. Those things were always dirt cheap!
@@lmaree200886 The glass bowl types are great, though they take up a bit of space. My dog used to sit & watch food cooking in the glass bowl type. That & the rotisserie were like doggy television for him. Along with the cooking types you've mentioned I also find that a microwave & my Instant Pot really cut down the bills as they use energy more efficiently. The instant pot especially as it cuts the cooking time for whole chickens, long cook stews or soup down to about a third of the time. If you cook clever with these things you can get great food in a short period of time.
Thanks, this was helpful. I have a smaller air fryer and will attempt to use it whenever I can over the oven for the two of us. It is an energy saver and the more ideas you can show, the better.
I love cooking things like steak, pork ribs, meatballs (especially when I'm doing large batches for the freezer) and chicken in my air fryer. It takes so much less time than in my over or the BBQ. Mine has a dehydrate feature that I love too. I save a lot of money by buying clearance fruit and making my own fruit chips.
l love my air fryer but it is not big enough, l never tried fan grilling in the oven, as that is all an airfryer is i tried fan grilling some steaks and they came out just as good as the air fryer and surprisingly just as quick, my air fryer takes longer to cook if the basket holes are covered, 1 steak 8 minutes but 4 takes 20 minutes, cleaning the oven is a pain though so l prefer the air fryer, also you can dehydrate and proof in a fan oven my smeg has this feature
@@debeeriz I wish my oven had those capabilities. Maybe my next one will be a convection oven. I have a 20 year old electric oven. It bakes and it broils and that's about it. There are no fans, just a top and bottom element so the air fryer was a game changer.
@@TheMiikka34 my airfryer was a kmart special, no bells and whistles, 30 min max at 200c it cost $69nz it does everything my sisters phillips does that cost $550. l just wish it was slightly bigger 3 burger patties is the most l can get in, and there is 5 of us, so if we are all here for tea then l use the fan grill in the oven
Hellow from the U.S., I love yoru shows, instead of spritzing with oil put in a bowl and spray the oil while tossing to evenly coat items, they will cook more evenly, to get chicken skin super crispy put into the fridge uncovered to dehydrate the skin a little bit
I have a single drawer air fryer and cook so many different things in it. It's great when I'm cooking just for me but I do cook for the family as well. My oven is currently on the fritz and we've been waiting for a part to repair it. I have cooked so much in the air fryer. I am now tempted to get a dual drawer one though just for that extra versatility.
I think a good note to make about Air Fryers is they are basically smaller convection ovens, so not always super useful for anyone who happens to own a convection oven. While they do make food crispier due to their more compact size, they work literally the same and a convection oven can do larger loads of food.
Hey guys I have a new video format idea for you guys. Take a recipe and google translate to a different language. Then to another and so on. Finally back to English and give it to the normals to figure out. Kind of a mix up between the cook book and head to head to head.
I recently bought an 18-in-1 portable/counter-top convection oven that includes all the functions on the air fryer shown in this vid. I can confirm that air frying in a small space like that is a great way to skip over using lots of oil for frying and dramatically reduced your preheat times (especially if you're using it for baking and roasting functions).
Bacon, chicken nuggets, Kebabs, salmon, aloo tiki, pizza, all turn out very well in an air fryer ! I’ve used one for nearly 7 years at this point. I cannot do without it.
I have the Instant Vortex Mini, which has one (smaller) basket and is perfect for one person. I use it for quick roasted veg, frozen fries, and it makes a great frankfurter. The Mini has a small footprint and tucks away on the counter.
But I'm not sure if there doing that anymore. Since there's only 4 of them and not 5.
I love the pass it on..they do them live now though you have to pay to watch them now I think
@@ArielK1987 they did a live Pass It On at the end of May so I assume they're still on it :)
@@ArielK1987 4 regular cast and 1 special guest could be fun
Yes! Do this please! At least this way alle the food will be edible --> so less waste!
Honestly, I’d love an episode where the normals show what their favorite mid week meal is that they make for their families. No fancy cheffing it up. Literally, “this is the jar I buy from the grocery store, here’s the box of noodles I use, etc.”
Maybe after they’ve made it the way they always do then you can chef it up. I just think it would be interesting to see what they are making at home and what tricks they’ve learned from working here that they have taken home with them.
yes please
Same tip then, just spray the food before it goes into the drawer, rather than once it's in the drawer?
Not to mention pressurized cans are shit for the environment. I honestly expected better of them
You can buy refillable oil 'mister' bottles that you pump up to 'pressure' and they deliver an aerosol like mist.
I will never make chicken in the regular oven again after using the airfryer
Same! I live by myself and swapped a ‘proper’ oven for an air fryer that has shelves and an opening door - basically like a normal oven, just convection. Can do rotisserie chicken in it and all sorts! Heats up in less than 2 mins, best thing I’ve ever bought 😍
I'm not sure if "Airfryers: Literally for disabled people" is a good tagline for being taken serious, but it's a neat idea.
Haven’t they made a video like that already? I remember some wontons and frozen seafood.
@@Virginiafox21 I think they’ve done frozen food as like a cheat as they did that series on tinned food but I think already “pre-made” foods or food we had as a kid but transformed would be a bit of a different spin and would be interesting

I really miss the ultimate battles where Mike,Jamie and Barry cook at the same time and have shenanigans
I also wish they still did the battles with all three of them in the kitchen at the same time; I think they stopped because of COVID, but now that they're clearly able to be in the studio together again, I wish they'd go back to that format!

Mostly cooking for one, my Ninja Foodi is a lot more economical than heating a whole oven.
I think it’d be fun to see Ben give the guys a description one of his favourite dishes and have them make they’re interpretations of it.
Takoyaki in the air fryer? I would like to know more...

Stuffed mushrooms are a go to air fryer dish from us - easy app to make without having to wait forever on the oven to pre heat

We got a air fryer last year we've mostly use it when we're cooking breaded food like onion rings breaded chicken or mozzarella sticks the air fryer makes these foods so crispy it's crazy
I'm a nanny for a family who has an air fryer. First time I've ever used an air fryer and am now obsessed! Thanks for the video, guys!
Agree - in particular for a large family the convention oven seems better, in particular if combined with a grill element.
An Air fryer makes things way crispier. It’s not the same as an oven.
@@redeye1016 How though? Its literally doing the exact same thing.
Like maybe roast the potatoes first and then add the chicken on top which also gives the added bonus of having the potatoes roasted with chicken fat.
might as well do both in the oven at that point lol
@@simonb5986 Also yes, but the air fryer is faster.
Ben talking about finishing off balls with a clean hand, yup it's a Sorted video

Well if they're seasoned the same, they're gonna taste the same.
there's no comparison. you can tell which was air fried and which was not.

I got an air fryer/multi cooker a few months ago and it gets used in some way or another in virtually every meal I make. I live alone so heating the entire conventional oven/grill seems pretty wasteful when I can use a much smaller device that has things almost cooked before the main oven would even be up to temperature

So glad you love yours.... and roasties in the air fryer are just 👌

Very cool.
I love how Sorted handles ads and makes almost-as-authentic-as-possible tests and showcases of cooking products.
Second video in a week to use Bombay mix. Did Ebbers get a bulk deal on it or something?
Probably knowing him😂
I have the regular Instant Pot Vortex air fryer, not the plus one, but I love it.
I get so much joy from watching y'all. There's so much fun and food going on and I usually learn something with each episode/video. Thanks!
I always want to try all of the recipes you guys come up with but then I think about dishes. Hit us with some more one pot ideas haha
I just did a Pork Tenderloin in mine last night... but I do almost everything I can in mine. Brisket, ribs, pork chops, chicken, wings, cheesecake, bacon, pie... the list goes on. I even use it for a toaster and reheater.
I use my air fryer for everything, I don’t use my oven anymore as it’s just me. I made a lovely cottage pie the other day.
one tip I have I have for getting the panko browner is to mix it in a bowl with oil (1 Tablespoon of oil per cup of panko). then microwave it for a couple of minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until golden brown. then pane as you normally would before air frying.
Having a typical hong kong kitchen my air fryer is such a good alternative to a conventional oven
We're so glad you like yours :)
They add the fryer word and people jumped all over it even though they had a fan oven already lol. There is nothing fryer about these machines lol
We need more PIO. And for the third time I'm going to ask you to try Egyptian food
I was very skeptical about the utility of an air fryer and for quite a while didn't use the one we bought, which was used only to prepare quick snacks. But once I saw how useful it could be for meals, I began to use it, and now we have upgraded to one with two baskets and it gets used frequently each week.
You have air fryer but no rice cooker, haiya!
my "goto" in my airfryer is a varston of fried ravoli. i season them with "Jane's crazy salt" and sprinkle on some canned shredded parm/ramano blend cheese in the last min so it doesn't burn.
Great video guys... What my wife and I air fry at home is corn bread and little cupcakes/cakes in tiny silicone molds. It works great!
Fat = Flavour
I will usually coat food in oil before putting it in my deep fryer
I have a single drawer air fryer and cook so many different things in it. It's great when I'm cooking just for me but I do cook for the family as well. My oven is currently on the fritz and we've been waiting for a part to repair it. I have cooked so much in the air fryer. I am now tempted to get a dual drawer one though just for that extra versatility.
I was hoping Ebbers would ask Barry what does duukah has in it
I think a good note to make about Air Fryers is they are basically smaller convection ovens, so not always super useful for anyone who happens to own a convection oven.
Hahaha, that's a hilarious idea 😂
I recently bought an 18-in-1 portable/counter-top convection oven that includes all the functions on the air fryer shown in this vid. I can confirm that air frying in a small space like that is a great way to skip over using lots of oil for frying and dramatically reduced your preheat times (especially if you're using it for baking and roasting functions).
Pass It On: Air Fryer?
Bacon, chicken nuggets, Kebabs, salmon, aloo tiki, pizza, all turn out very well in an air fryer ! I’ve used one for nearly 7 years at this point. I cannot do without it.
Using Bombay mix to panne something. 🤯
Honestly my air fryer gets used primarily for chips and sausages mostly! It's just so quick and simple, especially when you are cooking for children.
It’s basically just a small oven. Not sure why everyone is so amazed that it cooks food…
Well pretty everyone who owns one does have an oven at home. You won't get the same results in a large oven.
Buying an airfryer was a great decision I made. Roasting, frying, baking... It does things so quick and so well
I am really interested to see you guys using other unconventional products like rice cooker to cook 5 course meals.
Maybe they could try a waffle maker or even a jaffle sandwich maker too!
I have the Instant Vortex Mini, which has one (smaller) basket and is perfect for one person. I use it for quick roasted veg, frozen fries, and it makes a great frankfurter. The Mini has a small footprint and tucks away on the counter.
