I'm 36, been in a hotrodding and drag-racing family most of my life, played with/owned all kinds of fun stuff older than I. Today, I sat down and spent some time to learn basics I've never asked about or tinkered with. Stuff like this keeps me going old-school, because as everyone gets older and older, more and more of this knowledge melts away. Great information, thank you Andy!

When we think of a carburetor, Holley is the name of the game. Henry Ford used Holley carbs on Model T's. And it is great to see Holley carry on with fuel injection

Great video. One thing you left out was why the Holley carb is the most winning carb design. And that is simply because Holley was extremely successful in lobbing and making them a requirement in most classes. Which was a genius business move on Holley's part. In many classes of racing the Holley carb has 100 percent of the wins, simply because every car has to run one... It is not hard to come out on top in a monopoly.... In some divisions like SCCA, Holley carbs are not at the top, their not even close....

To my knowledge... The early Z28's were Manual only cars like the Boss 302's I believe it changed on the second gen Camaro... Once they replaced the 302 with the 350.. I may be wrong...

For a cool video check out this one from 1926 th-cam.com/video/kl9wo_LCei0/w-d-xo.html Check out the fuel flow thru the boosters at 1:42 I reckon that is 1700hp worth of gasoline right there. 🙂

That was pretty impressive... It's amazing how much they knew about carburators even after the first WW.. I have read engineering paperwork from 1917 and it's amazing at just how much detail they put into work!

@@UnityMotorSportsGarage Making 1600hp in 1926 was pretty crazy considering it had been only about 50 years since the first combustion engine. Overhead cam 4 valve hemi meant they were no slouch for their day. I think Packard rated those engines 800hp so even back then racers were commonly doubling their power output to set records. 🙂 You can hear it run here th-cam.com/video/OcPYzUDrpUM/w-d-xo.html

Holley is dead to me because they are going all SNIPER EFI and no more carb development. Edlebrock on the other hand said hold my beer and released the VRS4150 that blows the doors off most double pumpers. I have one on my bronco and its awesome. Holley missed out on a $1500 setup, never look back.

You know I don't have anything against the Edelbrock carbs.. they are good when used in the right situation... I do think it's funny that Edelbrock introduced their version of the Holley 4150 at PRI/SEMA this past year!
