Keeping a feed of Trout from the Eildon Pondage

  • Fresh air, crystal clear water, and gorgeous fish. What more could I ask for? I headed for the hills the second the travel restrictions were lifted, with the hope of bringing home some freshly caught trout for the dinner table. The wind was very gusty and at times quite frustrating, but my patience paid off and I was rewarded with a couple of fine specimens to bring home for my family to enjoy.
    Eildon Pondage is a heavily and frequently stocked waterway thanks to the hard work from the Snobs Creek Hatchery, and Victorian Fisheries Authority. I would much rather keep trout from a place like this than in a river or stream where they are self populating.
    Thanks so much to my mate Lindsay for telling me how to get to this particular spot, you can see his fishing trip at this same spot right here on TH-cam through his channel 664 downunder - • Fishing at #LakeEildon...

    Mate you were there in that window frame, it happens all the time at the poundage, you get a run and that's it, you can sit there all day and nothing, well done mate ATB Jim

      @RKJFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jim I got lucky. I think I arrived during a bite window, and then it was a few hours before another one opened and I got a couple of fish. I stayed another hour or two after that but the fish were gone again hahaha

    You got a couple of nice fish. Well done. I bet you enjoyed your dinner that night. Ive had some hardcore trout fisherman look down at some of the trout ive caught at the Pondage saying they are not wild trout so they dont recognise a trophy sized trout from the Pondage as a trophy fish but for me i like catching fish and the pondage has plenty of fish that are good sized fish aswell. I like the Pondage and this video has rekindled a old flame. Thankyou. 👍

    • @RKJFishing

      Thanks so much mate, I sure did enjoy it! I honestly don't get why some people feel the need to bring other people down. I enjoy fishing in all of it's variations, from wild to stocked, from bait to lures, from freshwater to saltwater. Some people just want to push other people down to feel better about themselves and it sucks! The pondage is a wonderful place, and Victorian Fisheries do a magnificent job with their breeding and stocking programs making fishing better for all of us. I hope you get to visit the pondage again soon, it's definitely a glorious place! Don't let the elitist fishermen bring you down mate

    Great video and fine looking trout. Haven't been up to the Pondage since early this year before the COVID19 reared its ugly head. I usually fish Burke Street but might give where you were a try when permitted. I'm still stuck with Metro Melbourne restrictions, even though I'm in semi-rural Healesville. No fishing until the restrictions are eased or eventually scrapped. You are a lucky bloke being able to get out and wet a line. Thanks for posting this video. It's helping to keep me and probably other fisho's reasonably sane. Reasonably!

    Steve.

    • @RKJFishing
      @RKJFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome to the Shepparton area Adrian! I'm more from the Bendigo area, however I can give you a few tips over there. They stock the main Mooroopna and Shepparton lakes with rainbow trout during the school holidays in the cooler months. Craigmuir Lake in Mooroopna can be good for redfin in the warmer months from what I've heard. If you're chasing native fish like yellowbelly or cod, your best bet is the Goulburn River, however the broken river is good for natives on lures as well, and the broken creek is great for some carp and the occasional yellowbelly. Best of luck Adrian I hope I've been of some help mate.

    • @RKJFishing

      On that day I had chunky cheese flavour powerbait, which is yellow, but I usually go for the pink or orange ones. I haven't tried powerbait at night before, but I reckon it would still work because of the scent.
