    I completed this hike this year in June, not long ago. Hot day, 93 degrees, I don't recommend it. I watched your video before I did it and again, after. The second time actually brought tears to my eyes remembering how difficult it was but what a feeling of accomplishment. If I ever do it again, it will definitely be in the winter. Thank you!

      The summer heat must be brutal out there! Thanks for watching! I’m glad it connected with you! Beautiful area nonetheless

    Great vid - thanks for sharing. Guadalupe is in my top 2 for state highpoints. Maybe it was the music - I felt such a loneliness.
    @6:30 checkout the trails on the mountain across the way

      I appreciate your feedback on how it made you feel! And I’d like to try some of Guadalupe’s other trails next time. Thanks for watching, John!

    My partner and I just did this hike last Friday, and I was scared to death the whole way up, even in perfect weather (the summit is so worth it, though). Really impressed you did this in snow and ice. More than once in your video I said out loud, "Nope, no, turn around!" LOL! You're a brave soul!

      So worth it! Congrats on the hike! Thanks haha, the snow and ice definitely added an extra layer to this 😆

    For anyone planning a trip to Guadalupe Mountains NP, I highly recommend the Mckittrick Canyon trail. Guadalupe peak is a great choice but Mckittrick Canyon is far more scenic IMO. Especially if you continue the trail up the mountain at least to the Notch.

    Thanks for doing this and documenting it. I was really engaged throughout the whole video. You did a great job on it. How much water did you carry with you?

    • @JamesPuente
      @JamesPuente  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Tyler! I carried only a liter to be honest, it was January, wasn’t sweating much 😅

      @@JamesPuente I was wondering. The 6-8 hours is roundtrip, not one way, correct?

    • @JamesPuente
      @JamesPuente  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, an excellent day hike! Though the first time I did this hike in 2016 I camped at the backcountry sites just beneath the summit. Beautiful, but windy!

    what month did you make the hike? How was the temperature when you hiked? Too cold? Hot?

    • @JamesPuente
      @JamesPuente  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This was end of January 2023, temps were 40s-50s at the start, 30s at the summit. Beautiful all around

    Looks amazing. Hoping to do this in early April. Is the weather decent at the park around then? Also, how many hours do you think it took total? Really great footage, man!

    • @JamesPuente
      @JamesPuente  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thanks Chris! April will likely be warm in the lower elevations, but up at altitude I’m sure it’d still feel nice! Duration, I’d say 6-8 hour ballpark. Start in the morning and you’ll be on your way down in the afternoon 👍 enjoy man! It’s a great hike and view!

    I know this is kind of a dumb question but what kind of hiking boots do you recommend for someone with a Bigfoot like me? I have a size 13 foot and I don’t really really don’t know what brand to choose and what is best to look for when shopping for a good hiking boot.

    • @JamesPuente
      @JamesPuente  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not a dumb question, I’d say try a few on at your nearest store offering hiking boots. I prefer a mid-height boot vs hiking shoes or larger full-height boots. Good balance between ankle support, grip on the bottom, being light enough and comfortable enough to wear for extended periods.
      You want them snug but comfortable. Don’t want your foot moving around too much as that’s how blisters can form.
      I prefer waterproof, as it’s not uncommon for me to step through ankle deep water or snow at times.
      Merrell is the brand I wore here,
      Good luck 👍
