- Today we meet Jerry and Marsha, a retired couple who are living full-time now in a Chevy Express cargo van. Jerry had some health issues with his back that forced him into retirement and they both really wanted to see this beautiful country of ours, and doing it in a van seemed like the very best way to do it--so off they went. They both feel that their health has improved since they have lived in the van as stress dropped away and they became more active. Most of us find we walk a great deal more than ever before so being healthier is the natural result.

God bless them. My husband Jerry and I wanted to be nomad also. Was a big dream for us. He was retired sickly. I retired in 2015. Early for me. We couldn't wait for 65 we just wanted to travel. We was married 46yrs. I lost him in August 😭 2015. I still feel the same way. Well thanks for listening. This couple made me think of my Jerry.
I'm so sorry for your loss😔 I dread the day. My husband of 41 years has got that cancer, and like the woman in the video I love him more each day. He's up a year more so far than doctors thought he'd have. Each day is precious.
God Bless and fill you with the joy of the good memories of life with Jerry and give you the courage to travel in the spirit of your husband!

These lovely people have built themselves about the best lightweight hightop van conversion possible!
With the new van and hightop there should be no problems, and having a very reliable travel cabin that will cover many miles over many years, they'll be able to enjoy their travels, meeting fellow travellers, exploring their new campsite locations, and most of all, they'll be doing it together and be healthier, happier and closer for it!
What a precious couple. I could listen to him play that instrument all day. You can tell they truly love each other. It brought tears to my eyes. You don't see that alot with this generation. What a shame.

Now this is what it's all about! This couple are why I'm still looking to change my life. I love how she saw the change and went right along with it. OMG...a Mando too!!! How awesome was that? I wondered if I would be able to stash my guitar in a small van but looks like they don't have a problem. I wish my father had recognized the need to change before he succumbed to Alzheimer's. Back troubles and in a van, yikes! I'm glad that they're finding some joy in life though!
I found that living 6 months in a van was good for my back. The seats are designed for long-hours support, and we put in a good mattress. Best of all, it provided lots of trails to walk, which did my back a lot of good. Walking swimming, a seat with low-back support, a good mattress , and I'm golden. YMMV.
@@robertfrost6246 I just thought it might not be too comfortable but so long as it's working for you that's awesome. I've been three months now without an apartment and though there are challenges I get out more and enjoy the peace that comes with being outside so much in the light.
@@brandonmartin4044 Your not wrong about a van possibly being hard on your back, especially if it's one you can't stand up in. When we were in ours, a normal height model, we were in federal and state areas where we could be outside as much as we liked. If we had to stay inside all the time, I don't think our backs could have handled that.
We sold it in April 2019 and returned to slow-traveling overseas. Lots cheaper, and very interesting. Right now we live on the southern coast of Turkey, and the cost of living is about half of the U.S. To each his own.

We met Jerry and Marsha in Oakley, KS, when we stopped to check out the. Uffalo Bill statue and information center. They are the kind of people one hopes to meet on the road ! Glad to see they are still traveling and making their van a home on wheels.
