@@adsadam1 AH yes because everyone who pre ordered Cyberpunk already knew how broken it was even though its called PREORDER, WAY before the game ever released. @@MaxMichel89 frankly, the issue with this unit is it's a budget model and the fact you do not have keystone adjustments. Which is necessary for placement of a home projector.
@@Heliocentric Keystone correction breaks the picture quality by stretching the pixels so that is something you don't wanna use. If you pay this much for a projector you surely want to install it properly. I use lens shift if it's available but nothing else than that. And with a high contrast screen I'd stay away from that as well and trying to place the projector as close as possible in the centre of the screen.
As someone with a projector in my living room, it's pretty typical (and easy) to ceiling mount the projector above where your couch is. with a fairly basic mounting bracket (~$30) I don't need any keystone adjustment either.
I have a projector mounted exactly the same way in my living room, no need to use the keystone adjustment, work perfectly with a ceiling mounted screen.

@@waldojim42 mine is an xgimi halo. Sniping, shot guns, and karaoke are all better on my projector though split screening hurts my brain. It’s waay too wide and hard to ignore top or bottom screen. I’m curious, have you gotten used to this?
Ideally you would setup your projector so that you don't need digital keystone adjustment at all. As soon as you turn on keystone you're losing pixels and compressing some parts of the image or stretching other parts. What they really need is lense shift, but you need to upgrade to the optoma UHD50x to get that.
As someone experienced in projector installation, this video hurts. The reason Optoma sacrifices keystone adjustment for less input lag is because keystone adjustment should be avoided anyway, especially in a home theater setup. (Side fact: Cinema projectors actually don't provide any keystone adjustment because the whole movie industry would never allow it.) Keystone adjustment is a post-process done in the digital domain, which means you are significantly sacrificing the image resolution when using it. When installing projectors it's expected that the user installs it UPSIDE-DOWN in the ceiling, at the correct height for the height of the screen that is planned. Perhaps Optoma didn't provide enough instructions regarding this but I have a feeling it was rather the LTT guys not RTFM. Well, sucks to be Optoma i guess.
@@sea_kerman Everything is possible with an unlimited budget. A mechanical/optical keystone correction would probably make the projector 10x more expensive. It would also require a lot more maintenance and calibration. But yes, it's probably possible.
I love seeing those old transparency projector carts in action! Literal beasts. At one point our district had an elementary school building being consolidated and lots of things were going to auction. All of those type carts were rescued by IT, and either in some form of use or in a secure storage that only we know of ready when we need it.
I've always mounted my projector at the height of the top of the screen. No keystone adjustment required, no risk of blocking the picture. But yeah, unless you want a screen bigger than 70", a TV is going to be better for most rooms (light control).
Bro everyone mounts their projector like that. I'm not a fan of this projector but nearly all of his criticisms come from pure ignorance of using projectors. You also lose significant quality with keystone adjustments and they are never meant to be used in a high end setup. Projectors have their weaknesses, like you mentioned, the necessary light control in the room. But none of the weaknesses are having the projector fans audible because it's right next to your head or not being able to sit in the center. You also can get a short throw projector if space is an issue; however, the reason most projectors are long throw is because the average person buying a projector is doing so because they want a bigger seating area that's not really compatible with the size of televisions.
Linus please. Keystone adjustments on these projectors are pretty much just a software transform. You don't want to use it ever, because you lose a LOT of sharpness when you do. Notice that, when placed on a level surface, the projector throws it's image UP from "ground level" at an angle (without any keystoning issues). The sensible way to use projectors like this is UPSIDE DOWN, on a ceiling mount. That way it's much further from your head (fixing the fan noise issue) and the setup is much less susceptible to shadows from people sitting in front of the projector.
"So this is really bad about the product. Just like our sponsor!" *sudden segue to sponsor* Only Linus can pull of this and still make the sponsor look good.
Dude... I thought of shifting frames to create fake extra resolution back when I was watching FMV on the 3DO. So cool to see someone else think the same thing.
You know you can flip the image in the settings so that you don't have to have it at eye level? I have this projector on the ceiling and it's very good without any keystone adjustment. Just set it up correctly.
"Do they think gamers are suckers?" If gamers weren't suckers, companies like Activision, EA, Ubisoft, Warner Bros and so many others would be out of business.
I can't imagine that you'd be able to see low latency with keystone any time soon. Keystone is a digital post processing, and removes pixels to make the adjustment. So you would have more latency and less resolution out of the thing. And I'm not surprised that you can get high refresh rates out of dlps considering how fast the dlp chips move. Laser projectors are the way of the future. No shifting as they heat up, and they turn on an off at the flick of a switch, plus a heck of a lot better color contrast. And a big protector and a screen is way less than an LED wall any day of the week.
DLP consumer projectors have been around longer than you’ve been alive. What isn’t mentioned is that they pack almost 2,000,000 of those mirrors onto a chip that is less than half an inch wide.
LTT: Let's "review" a projector Also LTT: But lets only turn off the lights for less than 20 seconds in the middle of the video, use the admittedly wrong projection surface, and then don't even show bright mode just because it doesn't work with HDR
I know some people treat projectors like toys they can plop onto a coffee table every once in a while, but proper placement and mounting isn't THAT hard. It is a shame the unit doesn't have lens shift for mounting ease, but digital keystone is garbage. It will likely require some effort and the correct hardware and will end up permanent/semi-permanent. Additional considerations are screens with retro-reflective material mean that the projector lamp should be as close to eye level as possible. When done well the experience elevates above gimic to a great experience. We haven't used the TV much in years.
I bought that beamer. It's incredible and i truly love it! I got it for 700€ and if you do some savy shopping this model can often be found around that price. And if you compare it to similar feature spect beamers you notice its a price performance beast, it was literally the cheapest 4k beamer i could find. Any complaints are reasonable at that price and i feel the company actually gave the product some love.
I've had this projector for 6 months. You just need to ceiling mount the projector and cast the image upside down. And you can eliminate the need for keystone correction while still being able to sit in the center and be away from the fans. Kind of sad they don't bother to check this or even mention it.
So I've just nailed the UHD35 which is an improved version of this. Given the research and this WTF moment with the keystone\geometry controls, I thought I'd contribute here in case you are thinking of nailing it. I nearly sent it back because it still has no HV keystone with gaming mode on. However, having done some research I've learnt that I don't really want the keystone adjustments, at least not digital ones, because it will degrade the image. Naturally to get the fast path for gaming, the picture would need to do some processing and buffer to cover the processing time, so it seems at this price point no geometry adjustments exist. Optical ones would be nice, but I haven't found any so far. Lens shift would also solve the issue, but haven't found optical lens shift at this price point, with low input lag. Digital lens shift sounds like it's just eating your vertical resolution and well, you'd have to have keystone as well presumably as the projector is still going to be pointing, well, where the projector is. So, I don't know as they think we're suckers, I just think that it comes down to cost and understanding that, if you're going to do this, you need to be prepared to position the thing so it's hitting straight on to the wall\projector screen. To that end I am accepting that I'll have to ceiling mount and drop it down a bit. Because the projector is then upside down, it projects bottom up normally and so top down. So the height of your projected image is governed (roughly) by the height a which you mount the projector. In the UK, the typical ceiling height in a modernish home is 2.4m (~8feet), so I plan to have mine dropped by about 60cm, which means the top of my "screen" is going to be approx. 1.8m (6feet) from the floor. on a 90" screen this gives it a height of ~1.1m (3.5feet) and will be off the floor by ~70cm (2.3feet). 80" is a bit different, but still similar, the screen is smaller of course and so the bottom is a bit higher from the floor, the top is the same. Naturally you could go lower, though it may look increasingly weird, depending on where you're mounting it. For me this is above my office desk (man cave!) so it's not going to be an issue. Plenty of folks mount TVs above their fireplaces and get along fine. I'm not a fan of this, because I don't fancy looking up all the time, I prefer looking straight ahead, but... if I want a projector with a 80"+ screen and low input lag for gaming, then this is the sacrifice I'm going to have to make and if you CAN make this work in your environment, then you might get along with this projector just fine. For me, as I am moving next week, I dare not unbox this before then. It's my 1st projector and I'll be hooking it up to my gaming PC and PS5 (latter also still in the box!). So I'll pop back and let you know how it went when I get it up and running and if popping my projector cherry was everything I had hoped. Btw, I NAILED A PS5 pretty easy by joining the stockinformer website's discord chat. I joined it like last week, got pinged within TWO DAYS on my phone on discord and I order one from Amazon at the regular list price a minute or two later and it came the next day. Please avoid the scalpers and try this if you're after a PS5, XBox or any one of the uber rare items stockinformer has on the list, i.e. GPUs.
No to the white or silver screens, yes to black ones! Trust me, after a friend of mine made his own black screen for his projector set up, will NEVER go back to silver or white! He started with a silver undercoat and black over it... the contrast is amazing, and you can even still watch movies or play games with lights on and enjoy it!!! And movies like Godzilla 2014 look AMAZING!!
@@MrMoley666 lens shift, not to be confused with keystone correction, is far from standard. It is actually rare on entry level projectors that use quality lenses. Super cheap models claim to have it, but the optics make the projector lose focus. Better models often have a tiny bit, but the king of lens shift is Epson, who offers a lot of keystone correction. You can flush mount a projector to a 9 foot ceiling and put half the image onto your floor. It’s pretty crazy. Always look for lens shift as a feature when buying.
@@khx73 If you are talking about the rainbow effect in the video, then that's not the same as in real life. @@LPhoenix Thank you for that great reply. I have a much older 720p model and I can pick up the rainbow if I pan my head. But at these refresh rates, I have to think it would be pretty difficult to see the color shifts even in the white light.

TL;DR, the dude that spent $600 on his CRT has a better display than you in every metric other than resolution and HDR (and because of how CRTs present pixels, that's a fairly negligible compromise).

@Billy West It's still fucking stupid to say that. Yeah, it might seem obvious to you, but when dealing with expensive hardware, it'd be dumb not to just because "it seems obvious". It gets intimidating when money is on the line, and it's mean of you to call them stupid for looking up a tutorial. Besides, as history has proven, the people who want convenience far outnumber the people who care more about quality. Especially for something like gaming, a hobby that's supposed to be enjoyable. They are the market.
@Billy West You sound very pretentious and far too sure of assets you don't possess. Yeah man, people default to asking more knowledgeable people for help. That's how we as a species succeed. Confidence will get you killed more than it will help, and with an attitude like that, you might have a lot of trouble in your life. I don't see your problem with needing help. Sometimes, it's a good thing to ask people for things, especially when they seem really simple. Like, I make clothing for fun, and there's a suprising amount of things that I never could have realized on my own. I still don't see how the simplification of games is inherently a bad thing. There's a lot of unnecessary complexity to many things. Removing complexity that doesn't add depth is a wholly good thing. I hope you get help with whatever keeps you from depending on others.

Ideally you would setup your projector so that you don't need digital keystone adjustment at all. As soon as you turn on keystone you're losing pixels and compressing some parts of the image or stretching other parts. What they really need is lense shift, but you need to upgrade to the optoma UHD50x to get that.
Linus: "Can we turn off the lights?"
Me: " Down in front!"
Shouldn’t there be some way to get keystone to work with some combination of lenses and prisms and stuff?
@@sea_kerman Everything is possible with an unlimited budget. A mechanical/optical keystone correction would probably make the projector 10x more expensive. It would also require a lot more maintenance and calibration.
But yes, it's probably possible.
I love seeing those old transparency projector carts in action! Literal beasts. ?? You should never be using keystone adjustments anyways!! Does no one care about picture quality????
And who would set up a projector system and NOT ceiling mount it anyways?
+1. Never use keystone and it reduces resolution and sharpness.
@@buhidef exactly! I can't believe on LTT I'd ever see Keystone Correction being ever even suggested!
I guess they don't get paid enough for a screen and a 10 dollar ceiling mount.
I always thought keystone adjustments were done optical with shifting the lens, or is it just with more expensive projectors ?

No to the white or silver screens, yes to black ones! Trust me, after a friend of mine made his own black screen for his projector set up, will NEVER go back to silver or white!
@@paulvail7926 ah, I've been spoiled then, I've had an Epson and a Panasonic. Lens shift is a necessary feature IMO.
I love the scripting. Linus: "Why hasn't linus told us about the sponsor yet"
"i don't even notice any rainbow effect!"
am i the only person who saw the very obvious rainbow effect when quickly panning oooor
Saw it.. I'd never buy DLP. Can't stand that rainbow effect.
@@khx73 If you are talking about the rainbow effect in the video, then that's not the same as in real life. The shutter speed of the camera most probably makes the rainbow effect more visible in the video. Also, depending on the speed of the colorwheel, the rainbow effect could be less visible, or not even visible for the people otherwise sensitive for this, so it differs from projector to projector
I have this exact projector and it's actually one of the better ones regarding the rainbow effect
@@LPhoenix Thank you for that great reply.
I have a much older 720p model and I can pick up the rainbow if I pan my head. But at these refresh rates, I have to think it would be pretty difficult to see the color shifts even in the white light.
When the lights went out I thought "Looks like Mystery Science Gaming 3000".
Last time I was this early, Channel Super-Fun was more than a joke
Really? I always thought it was simply a joke channel.
"Y hasn't linus told us about the sponsor yet?"
*audible gasp* He's learning.
"Do they think gamers are suckers"
Given how many people were as desperate as they were to buy a PS5 with no games for it, despite how Sony has been, lately, they have good reason to believe that.
You only need Demon Souls
Also i have purchased 160 PS4 games on base PS4, all work on PS5, most of which take advantage of the better hardware. That's good enough reason to buy the upgrade for me lol

Finally..... a video for a projector in which they show it without lights.
I've been watching this projector on Amazon for a year and honestly thank you for bringing that point up that you lose keystone ability if you try and use high refresh rate that issue just killed any purchase I would have made on this... I've been wanting this projector for at least 2 years and that main issue just killed anyone want that I had for this projector.. I'll have to wait for the newer model that comes out that has 240 FPS with keystone..
