im so glad seeing MIke speak his mind about blender. I was getting tired of the "wow! blender is awesome! blender taking over! blender the future! leaving my software for blender videos ! i was planning to leave 3ds max and had to choose between blender and maya. after 3 attempts on blender (2.7, 2.8), and 2 attempts on maya. i decide to go with maya and honestly when it comes to doing actual work ,Maya is way ahead of blender in alot of ways. I also will rate Maya over 3ds max .

He never said Blender is bad. Blender IS awesome but it has it's applications and it has its limits. I've worked in most of these programs as well and for me - I am not a Maya guy. Sure it can do a lot but it feels SUPER uncomfortable to use for me and also has (despite how much it's used) surprisingly many shortcomings and limitations. Also it's always a good idea to chose the right software for the right application. If I have a software at my disposal and the work is done fastest there - why would I stick to another.

@@blendwork_channel733 i ddint say he said blender is bad either, nor am i claiming blender is bad.
Im saying blender is over hyped expecially with so many misleading videos and comments on youtube. Blender is nice but lacks in alot of areas, although with time it will get better.
I'm learning it again for the forth time and been coming along only with the help of a ton of addons to properly suit my workflow.

First of all You are the creator of this channel and You have a passion which you share with your viewers. Having said that i do admit i was a bit curious how will the Blender tuts work out. But i must also say that im a Maya guy, trying to learn Blender but as far as i got so far, i find it not that user friendly (well except for licencing where blender is 100% user friendly ;) ). So imho do what you do best and feel good about in software that works for you. So regardles if Blender will be here or not, here is already a tonn of useful vids to watch. And i am looking forward for more :)

The artist is not defined by his tools... unless the artist doesn't know which button to click! Having switched from 3ds Max to Maya to Lightwave back to Maya through employment and personal work, I know how exhausting it can be. Use the software you know the best and can produce results most efficiently. Maya's not going anywhere, so keep at it 👍

While it is a shame that there won't be more beginner 3DS Max videos I completely understand. Just wanted to let you know that the two videos you did do helped me greatly in a class I am currently taking. Once my term is over I will be checking out your Maya videos and seeing how I like that vs working in 3DS Max. If the Maya videos are as well done and clear to follow I will have a lot of fun learning Maya as well. By the way I only just discovered your channel for myself three days ago, I was behind in class and now thanks to you I am caught up again!

You've catered to many many people and have given your time and efforts to try to make everyone happy, and that itself, is an impossible task as there will always be something more that someone wants to learn....myself included. No one can realistically expect you to learn and create tuts for every software. You make these videos because you enjoy teaching the software that you enjoy using and that you feel most comfortable with, and once you try to satisfy everyone, it becomes a chore. Do what makes you happy, Mike. Personally, I've downloaded Blender but never actually used it because I discovered the same thing, it's learning the same thing over again, but different program, and only because it's free software. I know many people believe Blender is superior, and that's their right to believe that, but Maya is still the industry standard and, to me, anyway, it makes the most sense to focus on.

I've been using Blender for a few months (hardcore) and I really enjoy the speed of it. Everything makes sense and I'm not missing much (except for transform constraints)... recently started using Maya to prep for the future and it's just....it's just not streamlined. It's slow, clunky and missing a lot of basics. I've been using Blender addons, things like LoopTools etc...and Maya has some too but they're so old I worry how much longer they'll actually be supported. Without them, Maya is not great for modeling. Maybe the worst I've seen. You can't even shear an edge for god's sake. And ZenTools feels like it's just hanging in there.

I think I'm echoing most of the respondents, but stick with what drives your passion. I like both Blender and Maya, but that's just me. I think your contribution to the Maya content on TH-cam is top notch, and think that your time is best spent on what both pleases you and moves you forward as an artist/modeler/creator. Blender is definitely not for everyone, especially now, since the cash infusion they seem to have gotten has sent the development of the software into warp speed. I can barely get used to the changes of a new release when ANOTHER one hits, with a boatload of new features and some IRRITATING tweaks. (Please, Blender devs, QUIT MOVING STUFF AROUND on point releases!)
Okay, baby rant off. You produce excellent Maya content, and I tune in for that. I seldom use the Substance or 3D Coat or ZBrush stuff here, because there are dedicated channels for that.
Thanks for doing what you do, and I appreciate the Maya tutorials you have put out over the years.

sir is production house might change their track to Maya to Blender because it's free to open source license also it has CG lighting texturing modelling animation rigging as well as VFX stuff like tracking match move and wire removal stuff ?? so think to move up to blender now!!! or sir you can do both Maya & Blender tutorial party in a 7 days a week

There is no debate.. Blender and Maya are almost identical. The only thing missing from Blender is a retopology tool. Which is already in development. The biggest thing is preference and necessity. Some people prefer maya and thats fine. Some people need to use Blender for financial reasons and thats fine too. I learned maya and mastered it as my first 3D software. I use it every day at work. I also use blender every day at work. Its tough, but its doable. Thanks for all the hard work Mike.

I started with Maya(with MH tutorials :) ) and had to switch to Blender. It was a huge jump because i wasn't really that experienced back then and Blender was hard to grasp. I have to admit first month was painful.. I sweared a lot! :) But i am happy with blender right now probably i can't switch to other programs either. When you get used to blender you might not find the same comfort in other programs . Like mike said it's kind of re-inventing the wheel it has it's own learning curve..(not to scare people of course :) I definitely encourage people to switch to blender it's just awesome.) What i couldn't get used to though is using Blender's navigation.. I have been still using Maya's navigation in Blender since i switched :))

what will happened when Blender becomes the Industry's standard mike? I told you give blender 2 to 3 years.. you heard it here first!!! you have a Two generations of 3d artist behind us and they all have choosen Blender.. Love Maya n Max but they wont be able to compete with this new wave generation! maya will need to be free and who knows if they (new Gen) would even look at it!! Time changes. people change. new things are born... you cannot be on top forever.. just saying!
