Quick tips for anyone new considering trying DAoC. 1 Casters are difficult if you come from modern MMOs. Anything attacking you will stop any spellcasting for 3 seconds, use quick cast, and KITE KITE KITE in pvp. if a melee gets on you you become a liability. 2 Don't be discouraged if you have trouble in RvR. These freeshards are like the world series of DAoC, there are some EXTREMELY good players, esp some of the EU guys. 3 Get used to using face and stick, I bind them to F and Shift+f. 4 Push through the learning phase. The game feels clunky at first, but once you learn it you'll realize how mechanically high the skill cap is for this game. Your time will be rewarded. 5 Some classes like sorc, mins, healer, or any of the major CC classes have an extremely high skill floor just to be semi-functional on, start with something easy like a melee class or imo the best starter class, the skald. Skald has an amazing toolkit with insta damage, snare, and single target crowd control. This game is unrivaled when it comes to pvp. Take your time and enjoy the learning experience. Once you experience rvr with a competent group on comms you'll be hooked for life
Well for a completely new player I would have given the exact opposite advice ;-). Despite I haven't played for years I think the mechanics still are the same as 5 years ago on Ywain. New players learn the core game mechanics in PvE first and melee (tank) classes (without a group and/or healer) have enormous downtimes by healing themself. Tanks also deal "quite" less damage compared to caster classes. So they can not chainkill tons of npcs. Melee (tank) classes will be cannon fodder in RvR in the beginning because they can not interrupt at a distance and need to get in melee range to actually cause damage. I would recommend therefore a pet-casterclass like Cabalist or Necromancer for Albion (Theurgist and Sorcerer are more difficult!), Enchanter or Animist for Hibernia or Spiritmaster or Bonedancer for Midgard. These are the classes with the easiest progress in PvE and they also can perform really good in RvR once you know how to play them. Especially classes like the Necromaner or Bonedancer are really predestined for new players. They also have the chance to farm gold/platin and items in a very short period of time. With this gold you can equip new characters more quickly, leveling up crafting skills, buy a nice house and so on. If you really want to play a melee character you should definitly take a hybrid class like Paladin/Reaver (Albion), Thane/Skald (Midgard) or Champion/Vampiir (Hibernia) because their magic component like chants, lifeleech, damage casts, healing, crowd control or debuff spells help a lot while learning the mechanics of the game. For completely new players I wouldn't recommend any healing, buffing, stealth, full tank, off tank, support or crowd control classes in the beginning. They all can progress solo to a certain extend but it's much slower and complicated than any of the mentioned pet-classes. Casters with pets are easy mode in PvE and can also do a good job in RvR.
@@Indydayagreed 100% Also it is easier to learn the mechanics of casters than to learn how to strafe properly to land side styles which is simply vital for light and hybrid tanks and assassins.
Watched this for entertainment while I ate my pot pie. Im a DAoC vet from pre Atlantis. This video was very informative for those that never played it, as well as fun to watch. Back then my main was an inconnu reaver, in eden my main is an inconnu necromancer.
So glad to see video made on this game. I played at release and for straight 16 years there after. I truly love this masterpiece! Thanks for trying to keep it alive
The Eden server (you may already know this) is a private server jam packed with people playing, it's a true new beginning for DAoC and it's free if you want to relive the good ole days
@@TheNathanNAPALM I found it today and just in time to enjoy a new fresh server in 2023 with over 200 players on a Friday evening, that blows away the live server. I just rolled a troll berzerker. Love that class
I've been playing DAOC EDEN since beta and it is by far the absolute best private shard that has been made. Fantastic questing for easy leveling. Easy ways to level in battlegrounds and find groups. They've done a real good job with this one. The only thing I don't like much are New Frontiers but I can get over it.
Old DAOC vet from the Nimue Server back in the day. Played for 12 plus years. Nice to see this GEM of a game is alive and well. I was watching vids about EDEN on opening night. Thousands of players returning. The BG'S had damn near 1k players on each realm. I never seen anything like it. Made me very happy and I will be returning. DAOC has such a devoted fan base. A mid level PC can run it with ease because the graphics are 20 years old. You can have hughe RVR fights with all those spell effects going off and your system wont crash or lock up. So who cares if the graphics arent the latest and best. All that action and you dont have to spend 5k on a top end gaming rig. A decent ISP speed is alk yiu need for TONS of enjoyment hours. TOA was too much of a grind. Time to jumo back into game. Such great memories.
I play on the official server that's $15/mo and this is a great video! My favorite classes are Armsman, Paladin and Bonedancer. The other pet classes are garbage. DAoC's a fun game :)
Bainshee isn't the only gender locked class. Valk is too. I wish this video came out before last march, would have helped me as a new player. Didn't even know about the Eden server till now. To start out on the co-op server for new players, is also probably best, as the pvp mindset with folks mows over new players being able to learn and navigate inside the game. EC accounts are frowned on bigly, everyone committed to playing will apply pressure to upgrade your account, especially if a guild adopts any of your characters in. Folks with more game experience definitely are helpful to learn from, but not everyone has patience to assist new players.
Not entirely sure how the HELL this ended up in my queue but I must say VERY nice job production wise. I dicked around with DAOC years ago, beginning my MMO journey in '07 with runescape and WOW , then EVE and a few others, dipping out for the most part 5-6 years ago. Messed around a bit on the Uthgard shard YEARS ago and found a lot about the game interesting and held up but had a hard time getting used to how much slower characters moved vs WOW and other games not all that much newer, among other things. As you say though, if NOTHING else the RVRVR deal is one of a kind, and Im amazed there's very little by way of gripes historically or today about balance what with the utterly nauseating amount of choice both race and class wise, where the former actually have a modicum of gameplay relevance. Maybe I'll come visit this Eden server you mention....
This is the 1st game I Ever played! I would sit on my dads lap and he would help me Eventually he built me a little computer of my own, and one of his guildmates handed down one of their accounts (mainly so the guild could keep active access to their max lvl characters lol) I even got the hang of being a Partys healer! Over 20 years old and still going. The best PvP experiences ever in many people's opinion, over 36 different classes I believe (depending on Live versus Freeshard etc). Well worth checking out. He didn't touch on it but just because you picked on realm to start on that doesn't mean you can't play on other realms as well, there is a timer before you can log in to a different realm (to lessen cross realm cheating in PvP), you do get an experience bonus for sticking on one realm that builds the longer you stay playing on that specific realm
Playing Eden as well and overall it is solid. Here are some things to note that I have noticed: Theurg Ice Pets do a lot of damage at lower levels... I mean... A lot, as in around level 18ish the ice pet hits for 170 delve or so which equals a level 50's Direct Damage on Average! Cabalists Ruby Simulacrim does about the same damage. Necromancer is really solid, don't have to wait for pet swings for shade casts to go off anymore, and quick cast is anytime as well instead of the next pet swing. The Realm Buffers seem to give Yellow Buffs, thus making classes that have buffs more solid because base buffs will at least be purple followed by yellow spec by default. I have to learn more but I'm still thinking on what character to play, either maybe Deathsight Necro or Cave Shaman I don't know lol.

I was a Paladin main during Vanilla, SI and Atlantis. It was the best tank Albion had not even a contest (can't speak to Hib or MId tanks in comparison). The key element to succeed was what was mostly refered to as "pulsing" back then. Which meant you would rotate your 4 main buffs endlessly. You activated your attack buff, immediatly activated your defense buff, I honestly forgot the third buff and activated your heal buff. What happened was each buff had a grace period for its effect to run out, the basic idea by the game was activating another buff would replace the buff which ran before. Since you had this grace period for a few seconds activating 4 buffs in a row meant you had all 4 effect active, then repeat. Heal was last because it would heal during its activation phase and once its grace period run out, if you activated it again during pulsing you would roughly get two healing pulses stack on each other for each rotation because you activated it again. Anyway it could become annoying at times during long encounters but it became second nature to me rolling my 1,2,3,4 keys every few seconds ^^ it was such a huge boost for a Paladin you couldn't really ignore it. Once they added endurance buff and T3 speed to Paladins later it was basically PVE perfection as far as I am concerned - solo or group play. Paladin was pretty bad in PvP.

And because of a couple of minor changes they've made, yer a total noob, no matter if you've played for 20+ years. You'll be trolled by kids if you dare share any opinions... just go back to live and recover your old toons and have a good time with fellows.
Will the Live game with a $15 sub get you to the level cap faster than Eden?
Were you trying to make this video as obnoxious and seizure inducing as possible with all of this super zoomed in game play with blue flames and flashy colorful pop up writing on top? Damn..
Where is your video? Think you can do better? This video has been liked by many, I can't please everybody nor do I try
this game is racist humans r 1 race not a bunch of separate 1s what's wrong with the devs
Umm, no, there is a wide variety of humans across all 3 realms.
