"And then, rather than sacrificing the queen, he decided to sacrifice the king!" kkkkkkkkk hilarious... Mato could very well do stand up comedy on chess ^^
Mato yes I do agree. Thank you for your commentaries. You have a great understanding for the game and you deliver it with a good sense of humor. Keep up the great work.
of course your videos are of great help mato. before you i didnt know who paul morphy was , or judith polgar and some other names i cant think of off the top of my head. but besides the fact that you mostly help me find the killer moves in my own games you've also inspired me to keep studying and getting better at times when i had no motivation. Thank you!
I very agree to you mato. It improves my chess tactics when I'm watching chess especially Fischer's game. And that king was very gentleman as you say. Hahaha.
" we have to admit that this king was a real gentleman, he went to enemy's camp to face a certain death just to save his beautiful queen"...Brilliant...:)
Dear Mato, your chess videos are wonderful and you explain tactics really well. I should admit that if it is not Mato Jellic then it is boring. You keep us involved in your lectures. In an average of 6-8 minutes there is lot of useful information. I should say that I am your fan. Autograph please...
Fantastic and instructive game indeed ! Dear Mato ,are you sure that Movsisyan new about the Fischer-Reshevsky,NY 1958 game and trap? or simply he played the best move after black's blunder 8..Na5 , just by coincidence with Fiscer , did Movsisyan confirm that ? I think it's hard to memorize hundrads or probably thousands of such "traps" ,i believe that the fundametal principles of chess study is to understand the openings' theories then the bases of middle games' and end games' manoeuvres.
the knight on a1 would take the pawn on c2 with check is possible and not necessarily better move than Kxg7. White would take knight with queen and for a sake of a pawn white queen is better placed on c2 than on a1
YES ,,, indeed, your video help ME improve my chess game a lot better . Thank You >> Sir Mato, once again Thank you so much for uploading all the video.
definitely - big trouble to be trapped in one of the favourite Sicilian lines of your opponent :-) In my last big RL tournament 3 black players played Sicilian - I answered exclusively with the Morra - and won all 3 games - all players between 300 and 700 points higher rated - I studied the DVD of Andrew Martin 3 times before this tournament. Of course the more positional Alapin is o.k. too
i think the idea is to develop an eye to look for tactics..studying games of the past develops a intuitive sense of the position and improves pattern recognition. i was familiar with similar trap, although at the time of watching this video i did not spot the tactics. but as soon as i got a hint i actively looked for it and spotted in a matter of seconds. i think the key to the tactic here is the position of almost stalemated queen.
question 1: No it is not easy to find...I had it as a candidate move, only because I was looking for a killer. I would not have played it in a game before now. Last question, yes Mato I am sure you help my chess, but even if you didnt I'd still watch for the pleasant vibe. BTW your book is awesome.
I think if the trap were from an obscure game this might be a reasonable question. But so many people study Fischers games so hard I find it incredibly doubtful he wouldn't have studied it.
Yep, Mayhem in the Morra is a great book by IM Marc Esserman which is worth checking out, it's quite entertaining to read and contains a lot of romantic sacrifices which are always nice to watch. It's quite fun to watch people's faces change when I throw my Knight into d5 with their pawn on e6 ready to capture it.
As DanielManahan (below) has noted, at 2:18 black can capture the c pawn with check using his knight, and wind up with a rook and 2 central pawns for 2 knights. I tend to think Black would be okay.
White's got a huge lead in development and will easily get an attack in a position with opposite coloured Bishops. When there are opposite coloured Bishops, the aggressor will have an advantage because their Bishop can attack and their opponent's Bishop cannot defend the same colour complex of dark squares or light squares. This assumes all else is equal, but I'd say White already has an advantage. After 1...Nxc2, what comes to my mind is the counter-intuitive 2.Nxc2!. It seems odd to retreat the Knight since it's in such a great square on d4, but after 2...Kxg7 3.Qd4+ and White's Queen enters the dark squares with check. Then White can begin an attack with 0-0, Qh4, Bd4/h6, Ne4-g5, Ne3-g4, and maybe even h4-h5 ideas. Black's Queenside pieces will take too long to develop since he will have to defend on the Kingside instead. White's two Knights will help attack the Black King while Black's extra Rook on a8 will sit around doing nothing. You can probably watch any Paul Morphy game to get a good idea of what will happen, and watching Morphy's Opera House game every once in a while is very instructive.
+VectorGambiteer : After 1...Nxc2+ 2.Nxc2, both Bishop and Queen have a better prospect of further attack from d4 than the Knight. After a possible 2.Qxc2, Knight on d4 is still in the center, but his potential threats are not particularly significant, as the Black controls c6, e6, f5.
It was easy to find the killar move this time, coss I too had studdy Bobby Fisher games, here on youtube of course! (sorry my engulish, im from sweden)
Simply i think that a good chess GM like Movsisyan could analyse a position ,the same way like Fischer did ,finding the best move ; i do not reduce the value of old games' studying neither the importace of mastering all positional tactics.
Mato your joke was the funniest i've ever heard! the king was a real gentleman, he went to enemy's territory just to save his beautiful queen! LOL
Really beutiful komentar!!! Thank You Mato!!! Excelent Lektüre speaker!!!........of all Time!!!
"Sacrificing the king instead of the queen". Mato's amusing commentary is half of the experience.
A real gentleman ... am cracking ...
I just come here for the geography lessons.
"And then, rather than sacrificing the queen, he decided to sacrifice the king!" kkkkkkkkk hilarious... Mato could very well do stand up comedy on chess ^^
The gentleman always loses. You can always get a new queen.
Mato is a real gentleman, too. Great commentary.
Mato yes I do agree. Thank you for your commentaries. You have a great understanding for the game and you deliver it with a good sense of humor. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for your comment

This is a variation of a well known trap of lines involving Bc4. d6 was the apparent choice for many without even knowing the danger.
I Watch and Like all of your Video. I do it not only to say thank you and to support you, but also because I really Like them all!

I very agree to you mato. It improves my chess tactics when I'm watching chess especially Fischer's game. And that king was very gentleman as you say. Hahaha.

Woooh.. Astig......Amazing Sir Mato...
Mato has a cool sounding Transylvanian voice.
That was really brave King saving his Queen! :)
" we have to admit that this king was a real gentleman, he went to enemy's camp to face a certain death just to save his beautiful queen"...Brilliant...:)

Mato, thank you within a year from watching your videos my chess has nearly in-proved 120%
I can't help it I make people laugh even without trying.
Fischer's trap is insanely brilliant. I wish I could call it "Tal's trap". Because that sacrifice reminded me of Tal.
White's bishop is like a bullet sitting on b3. No wonder Fischer loved his bishop !👌🏻
Wow I studied the position, saw the killer move and all the different outcomes!
Absolutely agree Mato! Your videos rock.
this king was a real gentleman! you are great Mato!
That is great. Well done.
mato for president! ! !
I laughed because its so true:
when mato said "even watching my TH-cam videos can be useful...do you agree?"
Fantastic and instructive game indeed ! Dear Mato ,are you sure

Great!! thank you so much. Greetings from Mexico.
Mato ,you are the Ficher of this century .
"So black decided to sacrifice the king instead of the queen" op tactic here must try it out
It is because of you Mato I started playing chess. Thank you.
love your work Mato
"He rather sacrificed his king"
i laughed hard on this!! :P
thanx mato..youre awesome!!
That was a beautiful checkmate.
the knight on a1 would take the pawn on c2 with check is possible and not necessarily better move than Kxg7.
White would take knight with queen and for a sake of a pawn white queen is better placed on c2 than on a1
I've noticed that when Mato says there's a killer move, it often involves sacrificing a piece.
To Mato, always playing catch-up, I find a videos a great source.
That is great
He's in Australia mate, it's Spring down here, south of the equator (I'm in New Zealand).
YES ,,, indeed, your video help ME improve my chess game a lot better . Thank You >> Sir Mato, once again Thank you so much for uploading all the video.

Fischer and Kasparov are the best.
The feeling you get when you find the killer move ;-)

No. You look for the killah move.
That moves are really brilliant :)
Thanks
Fantastic!
God Bless you Mato!

If I record the video during the day than you can hear birds singing.
"This King was a real gentleman" :-)
one of the best games yet

Yes, Mato, I do agree!
great game! fisher trap rocks

That bishop sacrifice is insane...!
oriol artigas it's like a bullet sitting on b3. No wonder Fischer loved his bishop !👌🏻
Thanks Mato. Amazing game
the best youtube channel.
I live close to a beautiful park
You say only what's necessary, sign of intelligence, great checkmate
What's the idea behind white's Bishop to b3 from c4 in the opening?
it pins the f7 pawn when black castles king side
and when diagonals are opened white has very strong position if this bishop is still exist
Sie sind so lustig, Mato! Cheers, mate!
Terrific video!
Very good video!
Wonderful game....
I love this
What is stopping you?
I think if the trap were from an obscure game this might be a reasonable question. But so many people study Fischers games so hard I find it incredibly doubtful he wouldn't have studied it.
I was like "Bishop to F7 because gut instinct" and it was the right one lol
