    One of the best moves by Spassky in this game was 21. ... resigns. I'm serious. All that calculation to see that it was lost is pretty good. :P

      Yes , in 1992 , GM looking at the match said Fischer was still a 2700 + player ...

    • @stagna1959
      @stagna1959 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vitakyo982 Clearly he was not not so good any more. Spassky was rated 2545 in 1992, outside of top 100. He won 5 games against Fischer .He wouldnt able to do that against 2700 + player. In 1992 there was only 4 2700 players in the world : Kasparov, Ivantchuk, Karpov and Shirov. Fischer performance rating in this match was 2645. Kasparov said Fischer strenght was between 2600 and 2650, which sounds right . His level of play was inconsistent, there were few good games , but also really poor ones. Even if he kept playing and training all these years, he wouldnt be so good, because he was 49 y.o.
      This match was not even close to their 1972 match. It was just : 2 formerly great players, who were way past their prime were earning lot of money from Yugoslav businessman. Good for them.

    Fischer all the way. Aside from what James said, I also want to add that Fischer was largely self taught and never worked with anyone ,that included his training for the world championship match! Fischer's strongest tournament finishes, including his 6-0 whitewash against Taimanov and another 6-0 against Larsen, was lauded by Kasparov himself who wrote that no World Champion had ever shown a superiority over his rivals comparable to Fischer's "incredible" 12-0 score in the two matches. Simply put , What Fischer did was remarkable. His passion for the game was unmatched..While Lasker was a Mathematician, Smyslov an Opera Singer, even Kasparov a politician today, Fischer lived and breathed for the game and his universe resided purely within the 64 Squares of the Chess board. In his own words "Chess is life". Had he had access to chess engines and further knowledge of opening theory that arose in the last two decades, I believe could have shred anyone to bits in his prime , (26-28 yrs)

      In 1972 after losing the first 2 games to Spassky (#2 by default) , Fischer went 7-2 (+5 -0 =4) in the next 9 games for a 7-4 lead.

      Non sense!! I enjoy Mato's videos even better than any GM, I think Mato makes the videos enjoyable keeping it simple particularly with the famous "killing move exercise". GMs in general try to give you so many options and variants that makes the video boring , But from the competitive perspective I don't know if Matos can achieve a world championship, but that is not important.

    many people that go to the top in their fields where intellectual capacity is king will crash and burn in spectacular fashion; if you didn't already know. a few I can think of off-hand, "walter breen" "stewie unger" "bernie madoff" "hunt brothers" "ted kaczynski" and many others. i agree it would be nice if they wouldn't self-destruct so severely.
    oh btw, great video mato. nice easy voice to listen to and great job showing the variations, often my favorite part of the videos!

    the reason fisher would win if carslon was in his time is because it's during his time that everything we know about chess today comes to light all of our opening moves now a days were mostly developed and made perfect by fisher of course that doesn't mean carslon doesn't have any creative skills it just means fisher was the first one to put move into actions but tbh i could see carslon coming up with this own tactics to counter fisher

  • @uchihadante77

    was a special ocassion to bring Fischer to play chess again.A rich banker offered the prize money for this match.The real chess championships of today only have about 2 million to 1 and a half million dollars for both players.By the way,5 million dollars(of 1975!!!) were offered to the total stake of the 1975 world championship to Ficher and Karpov,but Fischer didn´t wanted to play profesional chess anymore.That´s a real shame.

    Hi, I’m Captain Hindsight, and about 1650; so what better qualified player to tell Spassky what he should have done! ...No, but a little more seriously, I’m surprised Spassky followed a line that left him with an inert piece (KN); you’d think he would have planned deeper into the Spanish O, which I’m sure he knew is practically the only kind of Open Game Fisher considered worth playing after awhile.
    ...Still, 5 million dollars dangling over you head’s enough to distract a chess computer!

    Hi, could anybody answer a question for me?
    After white plays 25.Nf7 at 9:00, can't black play 25.Kd7 and if 26.Nxh8, then 26.Ke8?
    Isn't that move preventing white's knight from escaping?
    And then maybe if white's knight doesn't move from the corner, then can't black play g6 followed by Bf6?

    • @logaritym1
      @logaritym1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe there are better continuations, but I would go with Nd5, attacking pawn on c5. Then after c4, I would play Nc3, attacking the pawn again, and after c3 - Nb5 and Nd6. I think you will have troubles getting the knight without losing 1-2 extra pawns and not doubling the pawns on g-h.

    Why no knight takes e5 at 1:40. I've studied this and i always sacrifice the knight if its defended with kings pawn and open the queen check if he captures knight

    Don't you think that's a little illogical?! Tal beat Fischer, Kasparov beat Tal, and Carlsen beat Kasparov, I'm pretty sure in a modern game Fisher would be destroyed as chess has evolved. Do you agree?

    how does prize money for chess get that high? golf tournaments have a lot of sponsorship which makes sense because golf equipment is expensive, but how is there that much money in chess?
