    It's real nice to hear this from someone who doesn't actually listen to a tonne of reggae. Seems easier to understand, somehow.,

      I think people can get too caught up in this stuff. I listen to whatever I want, then if I like it enough, i figure it out enough to be able to do my own version that i’m Happy with. I’m glad it makes sense to you and now you can apply it to your style of playing.

      Thanks for the answer! I've been checking most of your videos, your website and soundcloud... congrats man! This is good stuff! Actually, it's been a long time I didn't listen to things that I like that much... You deserve to be a lot more famous! Even if I really like rumba/buleria and flamenco, the sound I prefer is funky/melodic stuff, if you have any suggestions for other artists, I'm all ears...
      You are right, since I know this technic of rumba funk, the possibilities seems to be "endless" of what you can do with that. I'm having a hard time staying concentrated on one pattern only because every time I play, another magic pattern seems to arise out of nowhere. Keep on the good work! Take care man!

      Haha, yeah, I improvise all the time when i play, but it is good to be able to hold the groove when you need to. There's so many guitarists popping up all the time with crazy techniques. I'm always amazed at what's out there. My style came together from all my previous styles getting mashed and i just figured out what i needed to make the sounds i wanted. it's a constant search for new things and better technique. I started by playing trad flamenco over funk grooves, try that and see what happens ;)

    Booom! Wow thats the sound i was looking for. Now i just have to get it under my fingers :) btw which acoustic guitars can you recommend for this style?

    • @TobyHack-thguitarist
      @TobyHack-thguitarist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool, I'm glad you found it ;) I think any guitar can work with this style but it'll be a personal preference. Also, steel strings are more likely to shred you fingers more in the beginning. I like the feel and sound of nylon but I have played a little of this style on a steel string acoustic and it was fine.

    Hi toby I understand the strumming pattern but not when you string mute it. Is it first mute everytime you go up or is it up down mute and then up unmute and then again down up mute? Haha a bit confused here... thanks man.

    • @TobyHack-thguitarist
      @TobyHack-thguitarist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I think the main thing is to get the chord sound on 2 and 4. If I want the short staccato sound then I string mute in between the quick hits. Eg If I think like this 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & - Chord sound on the 2 and 4 - If I want to hit the chord on the 2 and 2& the string mute with the left hand will be in between. So if I break the beat up more 1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a - 2e and 4e will be the string mute. I also think of it like this, my hand is on the chord shape with no pressure, so it's muted, and when I want the chord to sound, I quickly pinch it and release, so if you already have the right-hand rhythm sorted out you shouldn't have to think to much at all. Does this even make sense?

    • @maximemichiels
      @maximemichiels 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TobyHack-thguitarist hahahha I try buddy to make sense of it... yeah the right pattern I already know from rumba style but the left hand string muting makes it reggae stylish. As I can see at 05:08 I see you already do the the muting with the up strum? It is a bit confusing when exactly to do the muting.... hmmm the 1e and a... makes it confusing hahahaha thank you so much and I hope it is possible maybe to say it.with down and up... e.g. snare (3rd finger) + up down up + snare (thumb) + up down up? Thanks bud bcs I really not get your sound yet... haha been practicing for hours and can make my own sound but should be nice if i could get yours to match. Take care and thanks for replying.
