In this video I show you how to play the drums, bass, and guitar parts of a reggae rhythm for acoustic guitar. You can apply this rhythmic pattern to so many songs in 4/4 time and just about any reggae song - in this video we use the chords for Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff” as our template, which was recorded in the key of G minor. The use of barre chords turns out to be a good thing here because it allows us to achieve the staccato 8th notes that are so essential to reggae by simply relaxing our hand. We will play block chords on the treble strings with fingers a-m-i between each beat, with the thumb we'll play the bass notes on the 1st and 3rd beats, and on beats 2 and 4 we'll slap the bass strings to get a snare drum "backbeat".

God damn your teaching style is just so inspiring to me.
Teaching concepts and ingredients for the song instead of the finished product.
Wow, awesome lesson. Just unraveled mystery of the universe. I'm feeling it...man!!!
Great to hear!
A lesson Masterfully broken down and conveyed with ease. Many thanks

Many thanks for this! One love ❤️💛💚
I like the presentation Scott some folk can be a tad lazy with music theory and basic structure can always be built on music is a natural high cioa amigos
Thanks 🙏
Have to say an excellent lesson .. true maestro
When you played the bass notes staccato, it sounded like The Doors Whiskey a go go.
Very clear instruction. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
This was awesome thanks!
Thank you!
I learned a lot with your videos, thank you
Great to hear!!
Great simple teaching
Glad you liked it
Nice video. Learned the rhythm with the slapping that I never did before!, Thank you for that.. it is a bit confusing though..why show the Eb on the 3rd fret and Dm 1st position and never incorporate these chords in these positions in the tutorial? Also, for those not playing bar chords, you could just capo the 3rd fret and alternate the bass lines. You don’t really get that reggae tight beat if you let the 3 strings ring out but it is an option. Thanks again. Hope you answer my ?
Cooool😎
Mantapp.....kopi ,,mana kopi...!😂😂
Man you shot that sheriff man
Wasn’t me
Good one
Thanks!
💯👍
It’s confusing though,….the versus are Eb, Dm, Gm?
The beginning two chords are Gm, Cm ? Why so difficult? Am I missing something?

I’m loving your engagement with my content and will respond with this sentence.
@@TheVersatileGuitarist it's the name of a ragga song sir
@@scoobydoo89765 name of song I shot the sheriff bob marley
Your a nice player but NO that’s not exactly it man. That country club style isn’t reggae music
Oh please teach us! I can’t wait to be schooled on the *real*, *raw* and definitely outside-the-country club reggae guitar that also incorporates the bass and the drums all for fingerstyle guitar!! Go ahead and post your amazing tutorial right here we’re all looking forward to it!
@@TheVersatileGuitarist You're a bit touchy ain't you mate. @robletcher2131 was merely pointing out what fans and exponents of reggae can hear instantly, namely that what's being played would not be considered reggae. He said it nicely too, so ease up on the sarcasm and vitriol old chap, you're better than that. One Love.
100%
Actually, it's a pretty good example of the 60's-80's folky type reggae guitar. A slightly different tempo and it would fit in a slower Chaka Demus song.
@@denmanwarren2696Your wrong my friend, hes not touchy, its just hard to deal with idiots that don't know what they're talking about, clever skilled people are not trained to deal with losers, infact you might be more equipped to reason with them.
Your going to fast to teach
You’re right, no one is getting anything out of this
