    Loved this series. Do you still have this bike? If so, it would be great to get an update sometime.

      Thank you. I did end up selling this to a friend who is a couple states over but she rides it often. Still living its best life!

      @@BrickHouseBuilds hey man just wanted to thank you for this series. it has been an absolute lifesaver for me. this bike is almost exactly the same as my KZ550 and this series is the only reliable information i've been able to find! doing the handlebars next week.. wish me luck!

    Too many cylinders, carbs and valves! Twins for me!

      @mikejones-qk2ou I mean it's the same work just a bit more of it. Twins are fun though

    Isnt it a general rule that if valves are out of tolerance there will always be a lower compression reading?? Like esp on old Mercedes diesels: test for compression only right after valve adjustment. Plus, for accuracy the engine should be at operating temp when doing the test.

      In my opinion a test is never bad to do. It just gathers data. Yes test when at operating temp but I always like to see where I'm at cold because why not.

    Hi, maybe the valves are re-seating them selves and holding off the bucket and shims a little !

      I'll be curious to see what the valve clearance is as Ive yet to check it with the little time I've had lately. Definitely a good project to experiment with

    I just picked one up and just got the carbs off I'm surprised you didn't ditch the air box for some pods it was such a b getting the carbs off

      Oh I wanted to but im trying to keep this bike simple and not mod it a bunch

      The bike will not run with pods. The pods doesn't allow for proper vacuum.

    Good stuff, bud! I think you might have reversed the order of the compression on the cylinders... 150 down to 115 doesn’t seem possible... but 150 down to 140 would be. Also, 120 down to 115 makes sense.

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrote it down as they came so thats what it showed.

    • @BUILDNIGHT
      @BUILDNIGHT 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrickHouseBuilds yeah... I know, but I thought you might have taken the readings in the reverse order than the first readings...

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BUILDNIGHT Nope it just came out with uneven numbers. Likely just a combination of oil in the cylinders and potential carbon buildup/corrosion on the valves making low/high numbers.

    I have a 1980 GS550L. Can you tell me the best place I can get a wiring harness and a carburetor rebuild kit?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would repair the harness with parts from cycleterminal.com. For carb parts check k&l

      I have power now going to two wires on left coil one wire on the right coil. New coils. And no spark to the plugs...Any idea?

  • @bradrennick2919

    What's the prescribed compression for it?

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the 150 range but anything over 130 im usually happy with. This was done cold so the numbers aren't 100% the same as when hot which I may try as well. Can't have too much info
