@@Fucklesticks to be fair, it is a bit of a toy car. That’s the vibe the FRS/BRZ/86 has always given off and still does, although less now after the refresh than before. Plus, it does wonders for dropping weight and for ride comfort. Just dropped from 19’s to 18’s on my RS3 along with some lowering springs and it’s been great.

Bravo on the small tires with lots of rubber, no wonder modern car manufacturers need adaptive dampers when the sidewall is an inch thick. Less metal and more rubber means better suspension and less weight.

It's good to see someone else that appreciates some sidewall. I run 16x8 RPF1s on 225/50's on my ND2 (Brembo Club) and it's just wonderful. I'll never go back to 17s. I noticed improvement across the board and love the look and added compliance.

Honestly, and I know looks are a secondary part of this, the 16s just look too small. It’s a 17s (or even 18s) car from every angle. That’s also a lot of sidewall. Seems like you’d feel more flex/less sharpness on initial turn-in.

The bigger sidewall is great, modern tires (especially the 200tw variety) don't need a 30 series profile to be responsive. The gr rides pretty rough so I'm sure the 50 series works great. I ran 205/50r15s on my 4th gen prelude and never lacked grip or steering response (and that was 10 years ago). Manufacturers care about selling cars and rubber band tires and big wheels seems to sell...give me sidewall anyday

Hey Topher- I appreciate your info as you check out options relating to the car! I picked up my BRZ a few days ago and love it so far. Same color. Question- looks like you're not driving in track mode, but rather the button to the left that defeats the stability system. Love to have your thoughts/feedback on this choice. Is this the least intrusive set up? When I first drove a very tight mountain road, pulling over 1g, in neither mode, it did not feel great, but I think the stability system was kicking in? Put it in track mode and was way better. I'm following your tire choice closely. I live over 4,000' in the mountains and will have temps below what is recommended for the Pilot Sports (mine car is a Limited) very often. I'll need alternative tires/wheels soon. Thanks for forging ahead and all the research!

Let us know how the RE-71RS's feel/perform on-track. People are finding them to be the new "top dog" in Time Attack, but with definitely worse wear rate than RT660's and the like. Like mentioned, for performance/competitive driving you're going to want a 18x9.5 or 17x9 wheel with a 265 or 245 tire respectively. There's a large performance benefit from the shape of a lower profile tire on a large width wheel (slight stretch), as the sidewall stiffness is increased you are able to run lower pressures without encountering rollover. As we know, reducing tire pressure is one of the only ways to increase the total rubber contact area given the same load etc. But, being in Michigan I get the meaty setup 100% and again if you aren't competing it doesn't matter anyways. Can't wait to get our 86!

I've seen that some of the wireless adapters don't allow you to use some of the wheel commands. Did you experience this?

How much fuel economy do you get combined in this car? Considering one but that’s the decider for me

What makes you decide to downsize on the width compare with stock setup? 7 width wheels can take 225 width I think?

Just ordered a set of these tires for the supra to use on my upcoming track day at streets of willow. Had to go to 285/35/19 in the rear since 275s are on backorder. Can't wait to see how the car does with some real tires. The oem pilot super sports don't grip for shit.

would you recommend the same wheel and tires sizes you're rocking here for daily driving?

I was looking at putting those same wheels on my Camry Hybrid LE in that same size to ditch the hub caps but keep the mpg with a light wheel. I was worried they would look too small since the spokes don't go all the way to the outside lip of the wheel but they look good on the brz. Discount tire has them listed at 19lbs for the 16's for some reason tho?

Could’ve used 17x9 setup for a much more pleasing look and both grip and compliance would’ve been just as good.

How is the launch on them? Do they grip from start?

I ordered 4 of the RE-71RS in 195 55R16 and will put them on my 16x6.5 steel Impreza wheels 17.6 lbs. I like that this size is 87 like stock load index. Bridgestone has free exchange so I can go up to 205 if this is too lightweight sidewall.

I’m surprised that you went with 205s on, my 500 Abarth is hammering the current 205s.
