I'm just starting to learn the game and this type of DDK review is absolutely one of the best types of resources for people like me who have a grasp of basic rules and concepts but still have a lot of trouble with decision making and thinking forward. OMG OMG this is exactly what I wanted! I'm 20 kyu and the people I play with are friends that I have introduced to the game. And even if I play on KGS I get matched with people of my skill level so I never get to see what good players have to say about how I play. I bought "Invincible, the games of Shusaku" and though it's not useless, I still think most of the reasons behind the moves made are way over my head. Thank you Nick Sibicki!!!!!!!!
Also, as a DDK, watching your reactions to the moves is awesome. "What!? NO!" and then the player saying "No, it's ok, I screw up again after this." ... Oh us DDKs, how we love to give our teachers grey hairs.
After picking the game back up again and seeing a lot of improvement I thought for sure I had to be somewhere around 15 Kyu. Now I realize I'm probably somewhere along the lines of 19-20 Kyu. This game never ceases to humble me lol.
One of your students assured that she had already seen the fuseki lecture online, and then I had a grin - "so did I!" :) I love your lectures, this was a beautiful and hilarious review. Keep them coming!
Hey Nick around 41:19 you say that the black group has 4 liberties (because w needs to make an approach move first) but i think it's actually five if b plays B1. Does that make any sense?
After the "losing move" (2) for white, Leela-Zero shows the white win rate drops from about 57.3% if the 4-4 point is played, vs a white win rate of 56.5% if the "wrong" 3-4 point is played. The white win-rate is about 56.8% if the "correct" 3-4 point is played (6.5 point komi was used). White's win rate is still well above 50% even with the "losing move". I know I'll never play at a level where a 0.3% difference in win rate on the second move will have any significance in my games.
Can you please make a playlist for basics of the game it would really help me and other new players out and really love your videos have seen almost all of them still lose a lot thought
He's was referring to white being forced to run his stones out or else he would be unable to connect them in the middle and late game. Constant running for white means no solid points, while black forms large territories and points all over the board.
"Let's make another rectangle that has a perimeter of 16 Units. How about a 14 units long and 1 Unit tall... That dosen't make sense" xD nice one! But Happens =) By the way, at the edge of the board it would work ;) maybe that was your idea ^^

31:00 i still dont like 19-6 after your explanation because you lose sente :/ i prefere 19-5 who keep you in sente because white need play 19-6 directly or play 19-7 after the next black move in 19-6. (but it's a 19 Kyu thinking so ...)

I see only 2 liberties. But approach move? Hmmm I didn't know that also counts as a libertie. I'm confused. Thanks :)
that's a famous tesuji to increase black group's liberty. Maybe Nick had missed that.

When you see the opening where black can either get three corners or the bigger slice you realize komi (6.5 extra points to white) is a good rule.
