Do you see any negative for doge? What about the workers, families, and communities that rely on federal jobs that may be cut? There are many jobs in the federal government that look inefficient because they solve a small problem that actually causes inefficiency on a grander scale. I fear that this quest to cut so aggressively will hurt middle class folks much much more than you guys who are millionaires and billionaires.

vivek starting a podcast for doge is very smart and is a better move than a lot understand. A lot of the success of doge is going to be based on public opinion. Its going to be a war for the publics opinion and the fake media is going to do their best to make the cuts seem like they are killing people. Having a podcast is going to help counter the attack on cuts they need to make. It will give vivek time to explain what and why we are making these cuts. Under rated idea for sure

Chamath has an amazing ability to break down complex topics into digestible, thought-provoking points that really make you question the status quo. His perspective on the intersection of technology, leadership, and governance is both refreshing and inspiring. It's rare to find someone who combines humor, intelligence, and authenticity so effortlessly, but Chamath does it brilliantly. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in understanding the bigger picture of how innovation and responsible decision-making can shape our future. Can't wait to hear more from you! 👏

A sales tax is incredibly regressive and hurts poor people the most.
Poor people already don't pay an income tax because they don't have money to give the government beyond what they need just to survive. So, going from paying no income tax to a national sales tax would be a tax increase on those people.
We should instead have a tax system that spreads wealth more. Higher taxes on corporate income but lower on payroll. Or a higher income tax on corporations the closer their median income is to minimum wage. Punish Walmart and anyone else who thinks putting their workers on food stamp absolves them any liability. Their taxes can be higher than the tax cost to give their workers food stamps.
I would also like to see a mandatory profit sharing system in place for large corporations. Give the employees some actual skin in the game and shield employers from shareholders who want cost cutting at all costs or they sue.
The gap between the top and bottom of the barrel is as unsustainable as the national debt. If we cut all of our government services in the name of giving corporations more tax breaks, we might as well just stop fooling ourselves and become an oligarchy with corporations in charge and everyone else is serfs.

It doesn't insure a contractor is honest or any good. The mostly useless written tests and advice chastising the notion of break even bidding drives it home.
Obviously no one wants or can operate for long at break even but high quality outfits will do so at times *just to keep their most valuable assets, their key loyal employees,* during hard yrs. (just an example)

Excellent podcast. One slight tweak to the discussion on inflation. The conversation framed inflationary pressures in a binary tradeoff, either inflationary price increases or interest rate increases. There is an important third option, less government spending. Lower spending decreases overall demand, slows debt increases, and potentially stimulates private enterprises while reducing the money supply. Inflation has a single source, government printing money at a faster rate than the economy can digest it.

ALL subsidies and tax write-offs to the private sector corporations should be stopped. Private businesses need to stand on their own two feet and pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Shut down their lobbyists so they cannot keep running to the government for money and favors. This will shrink our National debt.

Here we have 4 guys in love with their opinions and confirming each other's biases. Nobody really believes that all regulations are great or that there isn't waste in government spending, but to use an example like building homes without acknowledging that there are many safety regulations in construction that actually save lives makes this whole conversation seem unserious. Chamath admits he isn't really hurt by regulations but wants to tear them all down because it will be a major boost to the economy. But as soon as the stories start coming out about some project that wasn't done right and it cost lives or major harm to the environment the momentum will start to shift the other way. We need to be judicious with our regulations and with the removal of regulations. These boys seem like a bunch of kids that just broke into a candy store and think they've found heaven. What this podcast is missing is intelligent opinions on the opposite side of the discussion. That could bring about some fruitful information. I'm not saying that I disagree with everything being said here but just remember that eating too much candy only makes you sick.

A sales tax is better than a flat tax. People will pay tax only on luxury items. Essential items like food, gasoline should not be taxed. Get rid of income tax and replace with sales tax. When people can bring home what they work for, it will motivate more people to join the workforce and also be responsible for managing their own luxury expenses.

As I listened to you all a phrase from my youth 60+ years ago came to mind. ChatGPT helped me recall its origin:
The phrase “That government is best which governs least” is often attributed to Henry David Thoreau, though it originally appeared in an essay by John O’Sullivan, a journalist and editor, in the 1830s. Thoreau later echoed the sentiment in his famous 1849 essay, Civil Disobedience, where he used a variation of the quote to critique government overreach and advocate for individual conscience.
Once again we’re reinventing the past … and good for us!
Would you like to explore its meaning further?

On shrinking or work myself out of job: 1) in tech, if you've rearchitected the thing 5 times, it should be good enough. Thus, work yourself out of a job. 2) I personally have 0 patience. First time I'll do the hard work. The second time I'll have a person shadow my work. The 3rd time it happens; it's passed down to someone else. This not only build experience across organization, it means I don't spend time wasting on boring stuff.
