Segun Awe's and Paul Tao's interviews are EXCEPTINAL and INSIGHTFUL.They are both LIVING LEGENDS and Master 🎸s in their respective calling. KUDOS to both GUITARSIRS😂😅😂😅
My take is whatever you are doing now pls put your best in it and make sure you have it at your best .It's your talent .Always aspire to make a living through it . That is your talent ,it's what you will do for the rest of your life . Agbaletu ,thanks for bringing on these aged musicians.
I remember him at Adekitan street then. We were at 28, Adekitan street. He was at around 14 Adekitan st. Monday John was on Owhin street, just a Stone throw from Segun's house. Obey's bookshop manager was on 30 Adekitan street. The whole axis of Palm Avenue, Folarin, Adekitan and Owhin we're full of Obey's staff then.
Mr Segun Awe is a very truthful and forthright person This is a very good interview as it has opened up a lot of things Thanks so much Agbaletu for this interview very investigative
The final Aimasiko was a faster tempo as music had changed at that time. Most people that were born in the 80s-90s would probably prefer the final one. Second side was 'Toba je tere'. It was very fast and resonates with my generation. We have to give it to Obey and KSA for moving with the trend as needed. That's the most difficult thing ever for any business, ask Nokia! That's why Baba Commander and KSA are still relevant till date.
@37.18 the rhythm for ode A mi lo is soulful (pa ran ra .pa pa ran pa ran ra) .... Baba Segun Awe deserves his Special Recognition too for a great Job for the Inter Reformers band in the 70's . I like Him.Thanks Agbaletu for this Interview.
This man remembers everything and everywhere he plays….. he’s blunt and honest Plus he’s very good and confident at what he does…. I can listen to him all day
For me o. I entered the Obey gang in the 80s. While I love some of the 60s and 70s like olowo laye mo, oluwa Temi dowo re… murtala Mohammed, OBA Gbadebo II and of course Board members, the best of obey for me o was 80s. I love the guitar from Paul Tao. From Eyi yato to celebration, to Singer, to Igba owuro, Aima siko etc are the best.
We, should desist, from judging a book by it's cover...not, taking sides, most of us, don't practice, what we preach..and,this is the scenario..but, like my personal mantra..."Let God be the judge"...but,this is man,is as honest as he can be.. no, difference, from the first stanza of this interview...all the same thanks to Mr. Adeyanju , for this project... wishing you the best of the new year 🙏🙏🙏
I believe that both KSA and Chief Commander need to show more appreciation to those who were their destiny supporters when they were trying to reach stardom. They should offer support to those who didn't make it financially but who were there with them in the days of little beginning. God bless them all.
This Man said something at 48.18 and he is damn so right,I am a living example, this is exactly what affected my journey in America till today.I can't blame him,it is him that passed through whatever must have given him the experience he had and he is talking about.
Agbaletu, you're doing well. Segun Awẹ́'s interview came at the right time - after you have interviewed a number of JuJu musicians/guitarists - his diversion to on-point sójú abẹ niko is enhanced by his sequential chronological narration of the tunes to Commander Ebenezer Obey's music nailed all narrations on the head as egghead of the JuJu music history of that era! Kudos to you and appreciation to Sẹgun Awẹ́!
He's truly a proud man. You can see his way of talking, body language and his actions are not good at all, condemning all other group mates which didn't speaks well of him.
This question will probably get me in trouble but nonetheless, has any juju artiste managed to surpass KSA and Chief Commander in Juju music? For me, in the seventies, I used to think Obey was slow but later on in life I began to appreciate the genius in Ebenezer Obey. I think these two artistes have no match in today's Yoruba music. Thank you as always Agbaletu for bringing on these wonderful contributors to our tasty music.
imagine it happen that the same marketer market Ekilo fun omo ode and he clained it was the block buster of all time and still selling today he also market Obey @ the same time, you can not p know better that the fact mr awe
Always two sides to a story. Segun Awe sounds so believable. I believe him because he didn’t cover his own shortcomings with drug involvement and subsequent imprisonment in UK.
Monday John , Paul Tao , Francis deserved more credit from Segun Awe . most of Ebenezer obey worked are great because of the lyrical and the story content of the Music.
If i may asked Mr Segun Awe you play with Baba Obey before you start your own band and your are successful artist and now you're claim that no artist ever came through baba obey and successful ??
Well if I understood him well, I think what he was trying to say is that it wasn't Obey's wish for him to succeed but he was really determined to be successful
@@azeezolasunkanmifowosere3618 I blif Yu strike right cord there. Obey like anyone in the industry and any industry for that matter, hindered his progress. Remembered, somewhere in the interview he said obey called most invited guest and use his influence to nod them away from attending the launch. Juju are really dominated by both sunny ade and Ebenezer. No one that leaves any of the two are successful. Yu do not hv to be diabolical Abt it for example alhaji ayinke barrister give every Fuji musician room to operate without hindrance. And again, how it surprise me when they said obey turned back from performing along side barrister bcos of stage issues. Let's not forget, obey nurtured barrister. It shows one thing, despite our love for most of this ppl, they are all human and to err is human. Agbaletu is doing doing everything he can possibly do to right the wrong and put the history right . @@azeezolasunkanmifowosere3618 You nailed it my friend. It is a typical Nigeria setup. Land Lord vs Tenant or Driver vs Owner. One always sees the other working for him for life.
Maybe he’s fearless, but not everything is necessarily truthful . I think he has good memory but seems he’s exaggerating his contributions and in some cases he’s putting God’s name in place of facts and reason. Thanks to all for the interview
Michael Babalola was the maracas man for KSA. Moses Owayeye was a backup singer. "Maracas ko maa ro welewele l'owo Michael Babalola, oko Morolayo baba Yemisi (in A Ye Wa album). "Olohun iyo Moses Owayeye, Owo ni'le oko Beauty mi...*
Michael Babalola played the Maracas for King Sunny Ade and also does back up vocals for the band and the band Manager till 2007 when he and 6 others left the band.
The first Aimasiko was recorded in the song compilation of Obey Eps Erowa in the 60s it has more deep reflections than the Aimasiko released in 1987 while the difference is the fast tempo and rhythm of the 1987 release..Baba Segun Awe is Spot On.
Yes Segun Awe is so blunt and honest, Though he too did somethings wrongly as no man is perfect, I I love his honesty he doesn't mind if he is to be blame he will say things the way it is, See him giving credits to KSO where he deserves it and still points out what he sees as his mistakes, even his boss commander he always gives credit to him for what he thinks he did right and still point out what he was not comfortable with. I think i like him. and I respect AGBALETU he is so versed in his job👍👍👍
As for me, i will not see Ebenezer Obey as a legit evangelist. This is not first time we heard all these bad allegations of Ebenezer Obey wickedness characters
You have made your point and beared your mind with your former boss. My little problem with you is your saying Obey has talent than KSA. While you have the right to your opinion, I will say that was slip of tongue. I dont know what indices you have to show for that, but if KSA is not super talented he would have packedup long time ago. His longetivity on stage has outrun Obey by at least 2 decades, and he is till recording till now. Just speak for your favourite and leave KSA because he did not have any issue with you.
Segun Awe is so intelligent. He remembers everything he played. I can listen to him all day.
He remembered all what he played, but one thing is , Agbaletu should have allowed him to play the guitar live not only by mouth
Segun Awe doesn't mince words. He is blunt and honest.

Segunnnnn, enu po 😂😂😂😂. I love the rhythm in mukulumuke maa Jo folorun mi. But I was thinking it was Monday John. That's the only Obey record I bought.
Segun Awe is very truthful. Straight to the point and transparent. He has a little ego but dont we all?
That rhythm at 4:17 baba commander sampled it for Eniyan mi woju at previous records on single released.
I so much love this man. He’s awesome!! The creator of my High school years. Love you and thank you sir.
This interview is a masterpiece 🎉
This is a straight and strict account of juju music underground story. Segun Awe has sharp memory. Agbaletu, thank you.
Where is this wonderful man now?
I am so impressed with your work towards the artist or musicians. God bless you richly. Keep it up.

So factual. A rare gem. I can't even be factual like him, I would rather be diplomatic. Bravo! You got my number.
Agbaletu: how old was Segun when he joined Obey?
Olusegun Omo Awe guitar dowo re

I disagreed that Paul Tao can’t play. He was exceptional and I think Tao was the best guitarist.
Me too: even leave Obey aside go and see what Baba Tao player in ayewa and come back and tell me
Moses Owayeye was the man, Segun Awe was referring to as the slender man playing maracas for King Sunny Ade.

and I respect AGBALETU he is so versed in his job👍👍👍
I think Obey and KSA's music are distinctively different. Comparison will be unfair to them both.
Sure. Signficantly different. The basis of the comparison howver is because the two shared the stage at the same time in the same genre of music
I don't agree that Francis and Tao are not great. They are in their own right...
I like the interview but the part I hate is everytime Segun Awe refers to Obey, he uses "o". That's not in consonant with our Yoruba cultures.
Yes. The use of "o" for an elderly person is not in consonance with our culture.
Very funny to hear from Segun Awe that Obey can play guitar better than Sunny. He got it totally wrong.

He is still bitter
