  • A new probationary firefighter arrives at Station 26. He's an experienced firefighter from another department who must now start over on the bottom rung of the ladder. Then - is it real or a drill? Both Engine 26 and Truck 26 participate in a realistic training exercise at a local university dorm complete with firefighters in bunking gear and air masks, theatrical "smoke" in the halls,, real water in the hose lines and mandatory student evacuations. Some students are left with powerful life-changing impressions and praise for the firefighters!

    Man that's gotta be kind of a kick in the balls. Being on for 8 yrs and getting merged and being considered a probie has to suck.

    • @KyleSoldani
      @KyleSoldani 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Right? That's what I was thinking.. I'm 7 in on the volunteer/part-time side and am beginning career next month as a probie. Plenty to learn now for the career side so this isn't as bad, but man I feel for him after 8 years full time.

      Aaron Moberly you would care cause if there is an obstruction in the hydrant the fire wont be put out and it could be big trouble for the crew inside thats why you should flush the hydrant

    • @Acepilot235
      @Acepilot235 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aaronmoberlyify if the pump gets fucked because of debris that wasn't flushed out, that can cause major problems and could be deadly for the crew working an interior attack. No water = no bueno.

    21:59...for a better management of the lines they could take them through the gap between the stairs. That way they need less lines, have more space to move, the weight to carry the line is reduced, you have less chaos on the scene and also the risk of tripping on a line is taken away...

    Dick move by Denver to make the guys who came over back to probies. I know several guys who put in 8 hard years and achieved Captain, and a handful who got a Battalion Chief position. To have that taken away (I have heard horror stories from guys who had this exact thing happen) would piss me off to no end. I am not saying that is the case here, but if it was it would certainly be a kick in the dick to those people.
    Imagine you work as hard as you can, get all your certs, training time, etc. only to be forced to go all the way back to the bottom of the ladder. A guy I know had this exact thing happen. He had the training level and ability to command as an Assistant Chief from his Air Force time, but in the local department he was held at FF/Paramedic level because USAF certs don't count in California, so he moved to Nevada and is now an Assistant Chief there.
    Such bullshit, but hey, as long as the guys in their fancy suits with fancy degrees on the wall are running the fire service, specifically so long as they make the decisions on what training we do and don't need, and not the guys who have the field experience it will continue.

    • @cody4873
      @cody4873 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of this has to do with experience within the department. You can have 10 years of fire service experience, but only say 2 years in your current department. Where as someone with 5 years of fire service experience, but all 5 years has been with the same department. The person with 5 years experience at the department will probably get higher roles and such. Its about overall experience and department experience. At least to my understanding. Imagine being the guy who has been with a department for say 10 years, getting outranked by a guy fresh into the department just because he has been in the fire service for 15.
