[EP7] 2CV to Croatia: Getting to the Citroen Centenary!

  • Yes, Elly meets up with her ancestors and siblings as we make it to La Ferte-Vidame, Normandy for the offical Citroen Centenary celebrations! This doesn't contain the event itself, just the arrival - which is pretty epic all on its own! Tisser six-wheel CXs, H vans, 2CVs, BXs, Traction Avants, SMs and much more!
Also contains us skirting Paris. That bit wasn't so much fun...
On social media, the hashtag is #2CVtoCroatia and that's what we're doing after this show!
Support and merchandise options can be found at hubnut.org

Have been struggling to get parts for my Citroen for the past few years, I thought my 23 year old Citroen is just too old to keep, then, this clip came long.....! Sharks. I'm no where close to the lineup here. I'm absolutely humbled by the number of beautifully restored, maintained and for some, enhanced Citroens. This event is absolutely fabulous. How I wish I was there to see it for myself. Now for my 23 yr old, I'm going to shop hard on the internet for some shocks and struts, hoping in another 23 years, it'll be more fitting for an event of such caliber.

I'm rewatching your whole Croatia-trip for the third time. Given the fact that TH-cam has millions of videos I haven't yet seen (and probably never will at this rate), says a lot about me, but equally plenty about the nature of your videos. They encapsulate everything I look for when eyeing interesting, soothing, peaceful and down to earth experiences. They 'provided' for me the first time, and do so even more the third time round. I will most likely revisit the mighty Dacia- and Antipodes-tour in the same watching-vein. Keep up the very good 'work', Ian, and I'm already looking forward to what you have in stall when back in the UK. Greetings from behind a stationary pc in a stationary house from a pretty stationary guy in a rather stationary Belgium.

Avoiding the péage doesn't only save you money, it also saves you the embarrassment of having to move over to the passenger seat and reach for the toll booth. ;)

@Robert Brink ... or stretching across only to drop the little ticket down between the passenger seat and the door... Frankly, it can be quicker just to jump out and do the transaction at the booth.

Or get a Sanef - now Emovis - Liber-T electronic toll tag. Easy to log-on online, small cost per year for the tag, pay the same at the toll, but sail through the lanes marked "30 kph", bypass the queues and don't worry about looking for change, or queuing and stopping to swipe your credit card... Or avoid autoroutes, but they are convenient for covering long distances... Cheers.

      @volvo480 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@johncollymore1697 I used to have a Bip&Go télépéage transponder in the car when I went to France every year, but if you skip one year, they'll charge you 10 Euro for every year you don't use it, so I've cancelled my subscription. It was fun to have one, the French honking their horns, flashing their headlights and even cutting me off because they believed a foreigner could not enter a yellow "t" lane while passing the queue for the regular toll booth. The astonishment on their faces was priceless when the barrier opened automatically for me. 😂

Fell a little bit behind in watching the adventure unfold, so I already have a rough idea of the amount of goodies ahead in the future videos, but this was already pretty awesome. For me, the yellow CX newspaper delivery car stole the show (although the one seen momentarily a little later looked even more bizzare :D). What a strange car and a strange concept of a special version!
As always, I also loved the "plain" travel bits -- including the Parisian Peripherique (I must be misspelling that): with all its obvious ugliness, it does have a character.

Lots of big Citroens - lovely! And a few that are utterly bonkers, as only the French know how. I had no idea that they built a 4-dr SM, but they should have made more of them :)
The Traction Avant still looks so much more modern than anything else from that era, and that semi-convertible one maintains the lines of the car, hopefully it's less troublesome and leaky than our old Webasto roofs as fitted to every other P6 in the Seventies.
Good to see some classic caravans too - I've had my eye out for an old lantern-roof Viking or Royale to go behind the 240, but cheap ones aren't good and good ones aren't cheap.
My understanding is that the price you pay for all those fantastically empty French country roads is the endless congestion around Paris, where much of the population is concentrated. And yes, in France, as in the US, you must come to a full halt at a Stop sign even if there's nothing coming :)
I must get myself back to France at some point - I had a wonderful couple of weeks on the Cote d'Azur in 2001, but although the scenery is stunning, it was a tad warm for me even in September, so maybe Northern France would be more to my taste.

I think that the petrol leak was right at the tank, i.e. in the back of the car, so the red-hot engine (I mean, not really, right? :)) wouldn't necessarily increase the risk of fire that much. I think that the exhaust is the other side of the tank (left, as opposed to right).
But I will agree that I felt worried about that leak as well.

When I w’lad, I had a little delightfully yellow frog eye DS Estate with a boat that fastened to it’s roof, and it was one of my favourite toys... What an amazing line-up of Citroens! As usual, I'm enjoying this adventure immensely, although the "Dixie" horn, at 18:37, seems a bit incongruous, given the locale! As a youth of about 14, I recall reading an article in one of the car magazines about the Citroen "SM". That, the Volvo 1800ES, and the 240Z, were a few of the cars I lusted after...

Nice drive, leaving elly's life blood and dribbling of her food, as you go, poor elly, but she got there, that's something. If the the sneaky peak of car in this video is anything to go by, then the main event video should be outstandingly epic, really looking forward to it.

You drove on the Peripherique? You absolute mad man...
I was rather intrigued to notice that the French are better at queuing up for the roadworks contraflow than we Brits are now, nobody driving right up to the barriers to try and barge in. Clearly we Brits are very much slipping if we're getting out-queued by Johnny Foreigner...

I do hope you can produce a special video for the utterly splendid 3 axle CXs. They are just so very Thunderbirds!

The third axle ought to steer - just a little bit.

    Such chaos. much French.
2:36: A few corners is all it takes :)
5:52: Not going to lie; I like the grunge in this image. It's horrible, but also kind of aesthetically pleasing. Very urbex.
    12:48: He's just following you around, that's what he's doing :D.
15:09: Definitely what I would do!
17:52: My oh my that clunking is getting bad.

3 times I had to drive into Paris to find the campsite 🙄 satnavs were quite new and I thought I could do without it , Mrs shambles was on the map for 3 months, brought much tension that a satnav would have alleviated 😅 the lane with the long queue that you are driving past is the lane you need to be in 9 times out of 10, I also followed a tram in Switzerland and ended up blocking the tracks at a roundabout bcos of narrowing concrete walls 😂, it took a launch of faith into traffic, funny now when I think back. 👍🏻

I was sure that you went to a gathering of old Citroëns ! I have seen thirty years ago one of these lenghtened , twin rear axle CX van , when i was employed at mail sorting centre in Brussels . It was operated by a press distributor that came from Paris to drop french newspapers during the night and drove further to Amsterdam . I think those vehicles were transformed by the french car body maker Heuliez . Must be very rare .

Good to see a few Berlingos represented there, the disorganized entry would drive me crazy. Looking forward to the next video.

As a Berlingo owner, I always pretend I drive a worthy successor of the Acadyane. Ah well, some illusions just make life a bit more fun 😀.

I think the first generation Berlingo was a fine replacement. Don't forget the C15 though.

The Brits form a committee and don't adjourn to the pub until everything is planned and organised to the n'th degree. The French form a committee and stay in the bar until the last possible moment drinking and eating knowing it will all be alright somehow. :-) .You've got to love the French way of doing things.

How can you have a 100 year celebration and not have coordination on where all these vehicles are going to go. I'm so jealous because to see this many Citroens in one place is a once in a 100 years event. 😃 Citroens such as the DS and SM are probably the most unique cars in the world. Our once a year Citroen car meet in upstate New York is nothing like what you are having in Europe. Someday I'll own a French car. Someday. 😔
