      I think my favorite piece of gear I got this season was my used duck boat. Needs some more work but I love it. Im picking up High and Dry this coming season, hoping that a sale code comes along!

    60% private land for field geese and secluded wood duck holes. 40% public along river edges for puddlers and geese as well as larger open water diver hunts.

    I am primarily a public hunter. I did 1 hunt on privet land last year. I have been told I need the OnX. Worst part of public land hunting is finding back up places when someone beats you to the spot you want.

    Hunt my private blind daily. Hunt public when I pull a good lotto # or get a reservation. Also like hunting the river when it floods up in late season

    I strictly hunt public land. I live in the city with a passion for hunting, which results in competing for land. When someone beats me to my spot it’s a struggle to pull out a map and identify more public sloughs. OnX would be a dream.

  • @jwtusk

    This was my first year duck hunting and it was 100% public land. Either WMA or Lake Guntersville

  • @smckaysmalley
    @smckaysmalley 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Last year, we hunted mostly public land, but this year, we switch to private land. It was fun trying to figure out where the birds where at, and using onx hunt to figure out who owned the property so we could get permission to go hunt. We had way more success this year on private land, and plan on picking up a few more properties next year too.
    If I had to pick my favorite piece of new gear I picked up was for sure my new shotgun. I bought the Franchi Affinity 3.5 elite. Works great, fits right, and shoots like a dream!

    I hunt 50 50, for ducks hunt mainly public lands. For geese I hunt private lands. Been looking at trying high and dry wadders, thank you for all the info. Look forward to the great video every week

    I hunt both. Public for easier access at times and to enjoy it all. Private has it benifits of having a blind, birds are coming in for sure. But it all doesn't matter to aslong as I am out there with my family, my dog, and we are making good memories

    Always interesting to see how other people hunt. I do almost completely public land hunting, sometimes with a mile hike to get on the spot, so the ideal gear for me is no gear at all. If I can get by without it it stays at home.

    I mainly hunt privite land bug this year was my first to try public. I like private more just because I don't have to worry about other people but public land opened up a bigger variety of species that flew in besides my normal mallards

    I have been using BlindSide for the last few years in 12g 3" #3's and have been very happy with the killing power. I use a aftermarket modified choke tube in combination to make it the best for me. I did a bunch of pattern testing to get it right...I suspect a guy could do that with any combination if they take the time and figure out what works for them. I'm a public lake hunter with private access to my main spot.

    Mainly private but every once and a while will hit public. Working out of state and not being able to scout or have a group of guys that can scout during the week make public land more of a gamble. Easier to have private and not fight the crowds. Major respect for the public guys though its hard work, not much sleep, people sleeping in holes over night, guys sneaking past the gates to hold spots, and much more. Not much fun when you drive 4-5 hours to hunt and have to deal with that every time.

    I would like to try some of those expensive shells but just too cheap. For the last four years I have been shooting Royal Blue Steel 3-1/2” No. 3’s using a Beretta A-400. The Beretta has great recoil suppression and you can’t beat $119 per case. I am not a young guy and usually go through a little over a case of shells per season (about 25 hunts). No sore shoulder or or other negative effects.

    I’ve had the opposite experience. I’ve only used steel shot since I’ve started hunting. Bismuth and tungsten is way too expensive. I use federal blue box and I love it. Buying the expensive loads is not economical. Though I am cheap, it’s not worth it to me. I’ve really never had to finish cripples.

    Great info on Boss shells. Your comments after a full season of using them speaks volumes. I have been cursing steel shot ever since it was introduced years ago and still cursing it. To make matters worse it is almost impossible to find 1 and 1/4 oz steel shot around here-all we see in stores is high velocity 1 and 1/8 loads in 12 gauge. I guess speed sells but we all know payload kills cleaner.....Jim.
