Welcome to the absolute void of legitimacy that is NFTs. It's not possible for anything in a game to intrinsically have anything concrete to do with an NFT. At the end of the day, the game 100% voluntarily decides to try to abide by the claimed "ownership" of the token in the blockchain. But there's nothing stopping the game from having two different NFTs referencing the same thing in the game. Because everything in the game is smoke and mirrors, including any kind of connection to a token in an external blockchain. If the game disappears, or the game devs decide that someone else owns that item that your token-in-a-blockchain represents, there's nothing you can do about it, because there never was any intrinsic connection between the two.
It’s the same for pieces of art really. You either keep the digital art piece completely to yourself, never putting it anywhere on the internet, or literally anyone can take the "original" and do whatever they want with it. Unless the NFT purchase included rights or a license you can’t do shit about it. Many artists I follow sadly don’t understand that -_-

1:50 as a software dev, you can actually set up your database in a way that these kinds of conflicts can't happen either. You can put constraints on databases which ensures your data always obeys certain rules. Or if it's not done directly at the database level, can use database locks and transactions to block two people from purchasing the same piece of land twice. It's not an easy problem to solve at scale, but it has definitely been done. If you've ever bought tickets for a big concert, a system that had these kinds of safeguard in place at scale was definitely used. But that relies on your developers being competent of course. Just trying to point out that you don't need NFTs for this whole deal ;)

E2 is in great condition! Just ignore the fact that the game is basically just Google maps, that the market is falling out the bottom…. That the core content creators are moving away or completely rebranding… that they are selling two copies of the same NFT… AND that one of the biggest possible competitors (Facebook) just rebranded itself Meta and threw in the gauntlet to compete directly with E2… and devs are leaving…. It isn’t an NFT, as selling two of the same ones would be completely impossible (unless they made two NFTs that point to the same game object); they’re apparently just using a database, and screwing up basic data integrity issues in the process.

I brought this up on Sidalpha's channel when he made a video and showed that comment. I truly believe that the guys behind earth 2 do not in fact watch videos or take notes and such on what people have to say like they claim they do. The Evidence is in how they kept calling Sidalpha a GAMER, and not a Games Critic, his channel is in no way reflective to that of a normal Gamer. So they likely have no idea who he is or the kind of content he puts out and is roping him in with others who just make videos on games they play. If they did indeed know who he was they would never have tried tro ask to sponsor him for earth 2 knowing they had tried to censor him in the past and how critical he is of everything they have done. It's laughable really and if you not seen SidAlpha's video on it it's truly laughable how often they called him another Gamer as if hes just that, a gaming channel, ignoring that hes a games critic and the whole purpose behind his channel.
I've said it before, but I would have just made Earth 2 some post apocalyptic shooter where you buy land anywhere on the planet to make a base. You'd then fight monsters and players to earn resources and upgrade your base. It might not be too fun, but I know people would be satisfied with thinking "Wow, my grand canyon base is coming along nicely!".
You could very briefly have overlapping information with NFTs. Because the ledger is decentralized with millions of copies you can have competing information on the blockchain if two people have produced differing blocks in the same position on the chain, so long as that is the most recent transaction in the chain. Once you add new transactions afterwards it becomes basically impossible accidentally and exponentially more difficult deliberately for every new subsequent block added to the chain. I don't think that's what's happening here though. That's a niche situation that can only temporarily happen and gets self corrected by the maths involved in the blockchain. Having them able to document it like this suggests it wasn't just a brief error like that, but just a normal database. Edit: I think that's right, but honestly some of the math of how crypto works goes way over my head. I might have the details a bit wrong.
I don't see anywhere on their website where they claim the game is built on any blockchain. If it was, your land NFTs would be visible in a crypto wallet, and you'd be able to see all the game's transactions on the blockchain. From what I can see, just looks like their own in-house database, nothing else.
I could really care less about NFT games or whatever other nonsense shady devs are flocking to with "investor" value but no actual consumer value. What does impress me is how absolutely nobody I know has heard of earth 2, Arya investments is a scrub channel with less than 6k subs that seems to be held in some kind of esteem, yet there are people out there that can waste $60k on transparently low quality/low effort nonsense like this and think it's a good investment.

Your claim that selling the same land twice “physically could not happen” if E2 was backed by NFTs or a blockchain is nonsense. A blockchain is just an inefficient database. Nothing prevents E2 from minting the same tile twice. They can't sell the same token twice but they can trivially create two tokens which both reference the same tile.
Say what you will about Dreamworld, at least there is a product. It is a terrible, amateurish product, that has no chance of meeting the promises. I know how you feel Lex, I did the same-preordered FO76 and paid full price on release day. I had to wait like two years for Wastelanders that made the game decent for me. Not great, just decent. I’ve had some fun with it since. But I learnt my lesson because I never buy a game on release day. Never preordered since FO76. Instead I wait a few days for reviews from sources I trust, plus having to see actual gameplay for myself. If the game passes those tests I’ll buy. Honestly very few games has. The Outer Worlds, Pokemon Sword and Brilliant Diamond have. I expect FF14’s Endwalker will be fine. That’s about the only thing I might preorder. I wish more people did test first. So many games have released broken, buggy or unfinished. Cyberpunk 2077, New World, Battlefield 2042, Anthem to name but a few.

While those are indeed fixes and possibly updates, they are so minor that no one would include them in patch notes except for possibly: "Fixed various UI issues". This is just sad. NFTs don't provide any uniqueness to the data payload (which is kinda rare to even be on chain). And the data payload can be as defective as anything else (say x,y start, x,y end). They're individually unique, the rest requires integrity/competance from the creator to be 'unique'. The function provided by an NFT is just as centralised as any other database row. So assuming a functional blockchain it's impossible to remove an NFT but it's plenty possible to remove its functionality (in your product). Since plenty of commenters are saying stuff about energy cost; Most NFT's have no meaningful energy cost, there's only a handful of blockchains that do have a massive energy cost and no sane person uses them as a primary NFT chain (especially for a "game"). I'm not really smart enough to know if you guys are just having fun at the idiots expense that peddled that trash, or actually bought into it.

Crypto is just an advanced form of a database. It works by encoding each block of data into an algorithm so each block has a unique identifier which can only have one link. Any database at this advanced a stage should generate a primary key on purchase that cannot be cloned or duplicated, and also locks out that cell from editing through the open market table. Im pretty sure any 2 year database major could pump out that program solo in a couple weeks.

This is functionally the same as normal cryptocurrency - you can track down which person owns a specific dogecoin, track who spent it and when and to whom, etc. The difference is that dogecoin is fungible - it doesn't matter to the person you're buying or selling with *which* dogecoins you pay, a coin is a coin, only the amount of them matters. Non-fungible tokens' only difference is that it matters *which* 'coin' you have, because the tokens are not interchangeable units of value to the people who buy and trade them.
So yes, you are correct that this ownership overlap should not be possible with blockchain (or indeed, even with a well locked database), but it is not specifically because of intended nonfungibility of tiles.

E2 is in great condition! Just ignore the fact that the game is basically just Google maps, that the market is falling out the bottom…. That the core content creators are moving away or completely rebranding… that they are selling two copies of the same NFT… AND that one of the biggest possible competitors (Facebook) just rebranded itself Meta and threw in the gauntlet to compete directly with E2… and devs are leaving….

It isn’t an NFT, as selling two of the same ones would be completely impossible (unless they made two NFTs that point to the same game object); they’re apparently just using a database, and screwing up basic data integrity issues in the process.
This can be prevented by using either NFTs or just using a thoughtfully layed out database. Just add a UNIQUE constraint on the tile column.

PvP = picture vs picture, the game starts out by each player placing a picture, that is your base picture, if this dies you lose
a pictures attack is the total red value (get the red value of every pixel in the image and add it together)
defence is blue
health is green
a turn consists of the following phases
phase 1: Placing, you may place a picture or switch stance of a picture (Atk/def) either action will move you onto phase 2
phase 2: attacking, you may use any pictures you have in attack stance to attack the opponent, the base picture may only be attacked when the opponent has no defensive stance pictures
the image will begin to dull to indicate the loss in health, when the image is completely black (0,0,0) it is removed form play
phase 3: eating, in thie phase a picture may consume another as a way of healing, the picture being consumed must contain a lower total green value then the consumer
as you can see you want the biggest brightest picture you can find, legend has is there is a hidden 100mp pure white picture somewhere

I brought this up on Sidalpha's channel when he made a video and showed that comment. I truly believe that the guys behind earth 2 do not in fact watch videos or take notes and such on what people have to say like they claim they do. The Evidence is in how they kept calling Sidalpha a GAMER, and not a Games Critic, his channel is in no way reflective to that of a normal Gamer. So they likely have no idea who he is or the kind of content he puts out and is roping him in with others who just make videos on games they play. If they did indeed know who he was they would never have tried tro ask to sponsor him for earth 2 knowing they had tried to censor him in the past and how critical he is of everything they have done. It's laughable really and if you not seen SidAlpha's video on it it's truly laughable how often they called him another Gamer as if hes just that, a gaming channel, ignoring that hes a games critic and the whole purpose behind his channel.

I've said it before, but I would have just made Earth 2 some post apocalyptic shooter where you buy land anywhere on the planet to make a base. You'd then fight monsters and players to earn resources and upgrade your base. It might not be too fun, but I know people would be satisfied with thinking "Wow, my grand canyon base is coming along nicely!".

You could very briefly have overlapping information with NFTs. Because the ledger is decentralized with millions of copies you can have competing information on the blockchain if two people have produced differing blocks in the same position on the chain, so long as that is the most recent transaction in the chain. Once you add new transactions afterwards it becomes basically impossible accidentally and exponentially more difficult deliberately for every new subsequent block added to the chain.
I don't think that's what's happening here though. That's a niche situation that can only temporarily happen and gets self corrected by the maths involved in the blockchain. Having them able to document it like this suggests it wasn't just a brief error like that, but just a normal database.
Edit: I think that's right, but honestly some of the math of how crypto works goes way over my head. I might have the details a bit wrong.
I don't see anywhere on their website where they claim the game is built on any blockchain. If it was, your land NFTs would be visible in a crypto wallet, and you'd be able to see all the game's transactions on the blockchain. From what I can see, just looks like their own in-house database, nothing else.

Your claim that selling the same land twice “physically could not happen” if E2 was backed by NFTs or a blockchain is nonsense. A blockchain is just an inefficient database. Nothing prevents E2 from minting the same tile twice. They can't sell the same token twice but they can trivially create two tokens which both reference the same tile.
Say what you will about Dreamworld, at least there is a product. It is a terrible, amateurish product, that has no chance of meeting the promises. But it is there so it can be criticized or even just pointed and laughed at for disaster it is. And even as lazy as Dreamworld is, it is still infinitely more than Earth 2's "game".
Think about it. Dreamworld is the good game... well a game by comparison. How low does one have to go to make Dreamworld look good?

I know how you feel Lex, I did the same-preordered FO76 and paid full price on release day. I had to wait like two years for Wastelanders that made the game decent for me. Not great, just decent. I’ve had some fun with it since.
But I learnt my lesson because I never buy a game on release day. Never preordered since FO76. Instead I wait a few days for reviews from sources I trust, plus having to see actual gameplay for myself.
If the game passes those tests I’ll buy. Honestly very few games has. The Outer Worlds, Pokemon Sword and Brilliant Diamond have. I expect FF14’s Endwalker will be fine. That’s about the only thing I might preorder.
I wish more people did test first. So many games have released broken, buggy or unfinished. Cyberpunk 2077, New World, Battlefield 2042, Anthem to name but a few.
well to be fair, for Fallout 76, it is part of the series that people still love and also from a company know to have a lot of bug in the game so even without that bullshit trailer, people will still buy Fallout 76 anyway but Earth 2 is already slowly crumble so if other big companies try to copy it, it not gonna work.

While those are indeed fixes and possibly updates, they are so minor that no one would include them in patch notes except for possibly: "Fixed various UI issues". This is just sad. It just feels like 100% filler. The "It is ready when it is ready" quip is a blatant rip off from Blizzard, they got away with it after a decade of amazing games and a dedication to actually improving their game (well, mostly), now every self-important indie dev assumes the same cult-like following from their customers. I wouldn't bet on an elaborate rug pull, Shane sounds more like a mythomaniac struggling to keep the fantasy from crumbling.
NFTs don't provide any uniqueness to the data payload (which is kinda rare to even be on chain). And the data payload can be as defective as anything else (say x,y start, x,y end). They're individually unique, the rest requires integrity/competance from the creator to be 'unique'. The function provided by an NFT is just as centralised as any other database row. So assuming a functional blockchain it's impossible to remove an NFT but it's plenty possible to remove its functionality (in your product).
Since plenty of commenters are saying stuff about energy cost; Most NFT's have no meaningful energy cost, there's only a handful of blockchains that do have a massive energy cost and no sane person uses them as a primary NFT chain (especially for a "game"). I'm not really smart enough to know if you guys are just having fun at the idiots expense that peddled that trash, or actually bought into it.

Crypto is just an advanced form of a database. It works by encoding each block of data into an algorithm so each block has a unique identifier which can only have one link.
Any database at this advanced a stage should generate a primary key on purchase that cannot be cloned or duplicated, and also locks out that cell from editing through the open market table.
Im pretty sure any 2 year database major could pump out that program solo in a couple weeks.
