    Lanius isn't the first Fallout villain you can talk your way out of fighting. In the original Fallout, if you have 100% speech and charisma and you've gotten the autopsy report from the Brotherhood of Steel, you can convince the Master that his "Unity" plans are fruitless as all super mutants are sterile, causing him to kill himself and all his minions with a nuclear explosion. Much easier than trying to fight it.

      you dont need to have a high speech check. you just need the report. you need to get what the master wants to do and then you can just tell him that his work may be well intentioned but ultimately fraught and worthless because all his children are sterile..
      so what he wanted to achieve is impossible, so he stops

    In Planescape: Torment you can actually convince the final boss to surrender. In fact, there's only 2-3 fights in the entire game that are mandatory, since the game generally encourages you to take a diplomatic approach to situations.

    Honstly for the Dragon Age Inquisition post you should've gone with how you can avoid the boss battle against Grand Dutchess Florianne at the Winter Palace.
    Although I suppose Imshael is a harder battle...
    Also you could've gone with siding with the Dragon cult or gone along with Flemeth's deal about her grimoire, both found in Origins.

  • @Emilytea
    @Emilytea 9 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      +Da' Melon Sometimes the game will reward players for being more pacifistic by granting access to certain rewards that can only be accessed through specific dialogue. Or in some RPG's, like Fallout 3 for example, you can get more experience points by using unique dialogue options.
      It all depends on the game. If there is no bonus for opting out of a fight, reload the checkpoint, then slaughter everything.

    • @GrassPokeKing

    I still remember the best one of these I had was on PC in Baldur's Gate 2, where you get to talk to a Beholder guarding a crate with important stuff. Instead of starting normal hardcore boss-fight, he starts talking to you, and if you talk to him, you convince him that the person who summoned him really didn't want him to defend what's in the crate, but the crate itself, so he totally doesn't mind you opening the crate to look and, once you've emptied the crate, he decides there's not point guarding it any more and goes home. You even get to meet him again in the expansion and... so much joy...

I've always made it a point to max out either Paragon or Renegade, as I always feel the "best" choice is always the one you worked hardest for. The fact that you still have to fight off "Reaper Meat-puppet" Saren afterward makes me feel like it was still a fight. Unlike when I accidentally negotiated Legate Lanius off at the end of New Vegas. Heh, whoops. :P

    In the "In my Time of Need" quest for Elder Scrolls V, you can weasel out of the fight twice. When you agree to help the redguard woman, you go out and find her pursuers. They give you a choice. Fight all 15 of them at once, or agree to let bring the woman to them. If you do that, it takes very little effort to lead her outside the city and just let the lead assassin do his job. Or you could do what I did. Agree to help the assassin, and then murder him in a 1v1 fight rather than the 1v15. Cowardice! Now even stormcloaks can do it!

    No!!! The best talk out of a fight in DA inquisition is...
    Letting Morrigan use the spirit pool. If she gets in instead of the inquisitor, it avoids the fight with her mom later on. You know...all that weirdness of her mom being a goddess! Anyway, she doesn't turn into the dragon, the game goes on, and happy day!

    My favorite instance is in Planescape: Torment. If you're intelligent enough to think of it and charismatic enough to be convincing, you can make your own Mortality that has unbound itself from you bind back to you out of fear of being killed. It's the final boss fight and it takes incredible amounts of forethought, preparation and skill to beat. Or just enough points in Cha and Int.

    • @DnDorBust
      @DnDorBust 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Undertale most likely wouldn't count in this because it's in a way hinted to try. Well not exactly hinted it's literally shoved and rubbed in your face. It's literally included in the game mechanic, to talk it out to avoid confrontation in almost all battles (yes yes Undine fight but that doesn't count when you basically have to complete her quest much like sans and all others) it's basically the same effect they did in mass effect and dragon age complete potential friends quests and they may not brutally murder you or sacrifice you or turn on you. It's nothing new but in the games they shows these are examples of basically weasling your way out of a situation, especially if it's a very tough battle in a game. In Undertale you still have to fight in the end that life bar does go down even when you're doing a pacifist run for Asriel because your weapon is words and what not. So it wouldn't count because it's just how you end a game with speaking is included while these other games they mentioned still involved mass amounts of fighting and if you can just have a break on one boss like talking to them to avoid a fight or taking a deal or going around finding something to stop them or even weakening them people will do it.

    Granny Rags in Dishonored. You can skip probably the hardest (at least most complex) fight in the game by agreeing to chop up Slack Jaw and help her cook him. She's also totally cool with you looting her house as well, so there's literally no reason to not help Granny Rags.

    Reminds me of the Temple of Trials in Fallout 2, where you could just as easily talk your way out of the final trial - fight. Because intelligence and speech are the skills you go for in a post-apo wasteland. And guns.
    But who knew you'll start in a tribal village with no guns?

    In Sonic Chronicles, you have to track down special items to pinpoint Eggman's base. One of these is guarded by Shadow the Edgehog (no that wasn't a grammar error). You can either fight him in an intense battle or literally just say "I'm not fighting you," in which he jumps away and drops the item you want. Keep in mind he was guarding it. 1/5, would not recommend.

    Hey, guys, I just realized that Soul Caliber's Dampier is a near-twin of the shifty salesman/carnival barker from the Fable series (mmm, …. if I remember correctly, his name in Fable II was the appropriate Barnum, yes?); the same style top hat, ridiculous moustache, gaudy outfits, the whole schmeer.
    OR, WERE they twins? What if they both the same person, only making appearances in more than one video game, albeit in slightly altered personas?? And this isn't the only time the virtually same character shows up in different games by different companies.
    Worth a video from you folks, it seems to me.

    The "A Night to Remember" quest in Skrim isn't as major a plot point as others in this list, but it is notable for letting you Speech-check your way through all steps of it. Sure you cost several people a lot of time and money, but at least you can go straight to getting the neat staff without any intended temple-cleaning, goat-stealing, or hagraven-killing.

    I always try to use my speech skill in Skyrim. Whether that skill is the intimidation or the persuasion, doesn't matter. Take Riften for example, you can pay the guy to open the door, use your persuasion, or you can threaten to kill the guy if he doesn't let you in... guess what I did...
