- We’ve all done things in videogames that are against the law, like breaking and entering, or literally thousands of murders. Such crimes aren’t just limited to player characters however. Throughout videogame history there have been non player characters, or NPCs, who are either committing brazen crimes out in the open, or hiding dark secrets that should see them locked away. Blathers technically can't be breaking the law if their are no laws to break. After all, no one said where exactly this island Tom Nook has set up is located. Technically Tom Nook owns the island, so he is the only governing body for the island. Starting to think New Horizons is a massive tax dodge.
If Tom Nook makes the law on the island then it would likely be illegal to do business with Redd, therefore the art gallery is illegal. :P
Nothing in Animal Crossing games is normal honestly.
Nook did nothing wrong. The real criminal is Redd. He's the one selling stolen paintings (I bet he knows they're forgeries and stolen). He even conned Nook out of all his savings when Nook first went off to the city.

You're really going to call out Blathers and not Crazy Redd? The one who's actually stealing and counterfeiting ill-gotten gains from the National Gallery, Louvre, et al.?
Not to mention Tom Nook himself? Who almost definitely has a monopoly on most products available to buy AND all land in the area. Even if we just go by New Horizons, he has his nephews (whose age no one will mention but are definitely younger than almost everyone else) running a shop on an island he landed on and started selling land for. So even if he's technically the government he's got family in the one business everyone in town uses.
And let's not forget he employs a private air force, which routinely flies out to uninhabited islands and allows people to strip mine them for resources to sell to his shop.
He also arbitrarily gives one island resident the power to reshape the island at will and force residents to pack all thier worldly possessions and move to another spot.
His nephews are also the only way to sell turnips, meaning his family has literal control of every aspect of the economy on the island. Hell, for all we know, bells aren't even accepted currency outside of any place not run by the Nook Family.

All of the art is forged, it's just some are better than others. There aren't two authentic copies of any of the modern art that the museum can display, yet you can own as many as you want.

If you go behind his house and use the hoe, you can find a gold statue of him. If you place it anywhere in town, then the next day you'll get a letter from him basically threatening you, and he'll have moved the statue into his house.

To be fair, a lot of Dishonored's NPCs should be in jail.
Every store vendor in a game that buys my stolen goods... its called Possession of Stolen Goods, and being an accessory to my crimes.
Especially a card carrying member of the Thieves Guild... pretty sure just being a member is a crime.
Yes, the only thing preventing such guilds from being torn apart is their hands in pockets of corrupt government bodies and I guess no actual blue collar having the balls to kick down the door.

Okay, as far as Skyrim goes:
Initially, you CAN'T sell stolen goods to anyone but a fence, and you'll usually know who those are.
As for membership being a crime: Maven Black-Briar (who *ahem* probably deserved a spot on this list) not only knows about the Thieves' Guild, she uses them in some of her schemes, and effectively gives them a free hand in The Rift.
And each Hold tracks its crime separately, which makes sense in-game; if you're the Jarl of The Reach, how are you supposed to be keeping up with all the crime in Eastmarch? And even if you could, extradition would be a logistical and security nightmare.
Even if the city guards spot you wearing armor for the Thieves' Guild (or even the Dark Brotherhood), they may even comment on it, but that's about all they can do: fashion crimes aren't actual crimes.

Video suggestion: allies who only made things worse. Examples: 1. Recent, Ava from Borderlands 3. Her most productive use throughout the story is to use her burglary skills to lockpick the ancient tombs where the monks who took her in as an orphan bury there dead within their holy monastery. There are still plenty of monks around, at least one of which likely has a key. Instead she just breaks into the sacred burial grounds of her saviors & caretakers because something you need might be in there. 2. Older, Jo-Beth Casey from Time Splitters Future Perfect. Just wants to explore a haunted house for the thrill of monster hunting. Being a teenage punk girl armed with only a baseball bat & zero combat training. This leads to her being repeatedly endangered, trapped & kidnapped. Of course, requiring the player to focus on saving her rather than stopping the mad scientist's experiments creating all the zombies, monsters & other abominations inside said haunted house. All of which proceed to increasingly threaten her life as she encounters them. If these might do, then only five more for a standard list of seven.
3: Ashley from resident evil 4,the only way to stop her constant kidnapping is the knight armour,or shooting the would be kidnappers, seriously Ashley! Pick up a gun and use it you twit!

What I meant is that 47 is a professional who is paid handsomely for his services. Just like any good professional, he wouldn't provide his services pro bono. That is what separates him from a serial killer or a vigilante. On the other hand, he might lose a potential future contract because it turns out the client is related to granny Helen.

I do agree that a true professional will try to focus on his assignment, but 47 has shown emotions before in the series and so I decided that my Agent 47 would eliminate a crazy old lady that terrorizes the neighborhood and potentially children as well. Besides, as a master of the art of assassination, 47 can't stand lunatics that kill without an assignment and without getting paid.
What about Tingle from the Zelda series? Just for the crime of being Tingle and being in our eyesight.

Pretty much every npc in postal 2 deserves to jail time, if not the death penalty. From the butchers throwing people into a giant meat grinder for fun to the book protesters burning down the friggin library.
And let’s not forget about the terrorists they shouldn’t even be thrown in jail they should be locked in Guantánamo Bay tortured and then given the death penalty

I feel like the rdr2 gun shop owner in Rhodes should be on this list, he literally kidnapped a teenage boy, kept him locked in the basement of his shop dressed a sailor for god knows how long.

Anyone remember the pheonix Wright judge? He specifically helps pheonix sometimes, knows the fact that he bribed a child to stand at court, and at one point took evidence pheonix got from someone who was jailed in that same exact case (and pheonix was the reason she was thrown in jail)

Speaking of getting hit by a car, I remember that happening to me while beating up a statue to get a sword in one of the Power Ranger games. You'd think being a superhero preventing alien invasion would keep people from going Ludacris on you, but apparently not.

How about that shop keeper in links awakening. The one you can steal from. Yes stealing is a crime but so is also murder which he does if you ever return from stealing from his shop,
he also changes all records of your name, and/or brands you with the mark thief but the branding may or may not be legal depending on what set of medieval/feudal laws we're looking at.

Technically ‘Murder’ is defined as an illegal killing, not killing in general, so if the laws on that island don’t say it’s illegal for him to kill Link, then him killing Link isn’t actually murder.

Not sure there's any real authority to report to in that part of the galaxy other than the corporations themselves.
A few things I wanted to say about Mr. Libido being on this list.
1st thing: He's based on a real person. He was interviewed along with the Mr. Shakedowns and Mr. Moneybags.
2nd thing: If you complete Mr. Libido's friendship missions, you get the Incomparable Habu Drink, the best healing and heat item in the game. Once you unlock it, you can buy as many as you want at the drug store in Sotenbori. Definitely worth watching a damn near naked man do pelvic thrusts.

You could (and probably should) do an episode of this using only NPCs from VtM: Bloodlines.
Vandal who kidnaps people for forcible blood donations, Stanley Gimble who cuts people up, Dennis who deals drugs and makes explosives, the list goes on.
The Happy Mask salesman from Ocarina of Time. I am not sure what he is doing that is illegal but it has to be something.

I would argue traveling with such a deadly artifact counts. The masks from dead beings is a power of Link. Most masks don't come from dead beings.

Actually if you look in the drain outside Brozenar's shop you find crumbled notes of paper where people beg for help. So choking the ***** out and taking her key is clearly what you do after that.
How many times does a Witcher quest lead to the reveal that either the quest giver or someone who knows them is doing the big crimes?
Or belong to a nut house like the one character gets the witch to fetch monster parts so he can wear them

What about Redd in animal crossing. You know that dude is stealing everything he has. Plus he is shady AF.
I forget her name but the lady from bioshock that helped create the little sisters. And then later asks you to save them instead of harvest them
Tenenbaum. Although that was the whole _point_ of Rapture, that artists, entrepreneurs and scientists could do as they wished without any pettifogging regulation from narrow minded individuals like national govenments or the Church.
The Wise Old Man from Runescape he stole a blue partyhat while robbing the Draynor Bank and has been free for years makes no sense.
How about Chief Irons? The things he has done to various living creatures is down right horrible. He also works with Umbrella! A man whom is on the wrong side of the law.
There are plenty of amoral characters in Fallout who, if our legal institutions were in place, would definitely be behind bars, however I feel above all the White Glove Society should definitely in jail, their deeds escalate to the level of crimes against nature. And if creepy masks aren’t a crime, they should be.
The masks are definitely arrest worthy.
I gotta say, I've lived in Minneapolis for nearly seven years and I've NEVER seen a yellow cab, downtown or otherwise. But now I kinda wanna play Pro Skater to figure out if they actually mapped the city properly.
A game that old? Most definitely didn't have the memory to do that. Especially if they want lots of highlights of the city.

Maven Black-Briar from Skyrim. She openly associates with the Thieves Guild and has performed the Black Sacrament in her basement; she only gets away with it because she's rich. Also, the Rhodes gunsmith from Red Dead Redemption II; how did a whole town hear a man in a kids' sailor suit yell for help from a barred basement window and think, "well, this is fine"?
I *would* say Pickmin from fallout 4, but I honestly don't know if what he's done is enough to be that bad by fallout standards. He's just... very extra about it
I thought about him too, but he does only kill raiders.....
And if you forget what his red "paint" actually is, the art isn't that bad
Red Dead Redemption 2s Aberdeen Pig Farm: Homicide, Patricide, Kidnapping, Incest, Cannibalism, Animal abuse

I watched an episode of Face Off today from season 2. It was filmed when Dishonored was being released and they had to create makeups based on the character classes. It was really cool. @@Aixman are you referring to the elephant hunting part because if you are the .357 Snub-nosed revolver would take several dozen rounds to successfully hunt an elephant, no I haven't tested that but the .357 is a small caliber round if you are hunting an elephant it would take a .44 revolver less but still a few rounds at most.

Blathers’s museum does not operate independently and he’s not a private collector. Since the beginning of the franchise, it’s been established that he’s only running a branch site of a larger museum. In earlier entries, he wasn’t even authorized to identify fossils. Whoever wrote that article didn’t do their due diligence and postulated a wild theory contrary to established lore.
Any NPC that drives in GTAV. Sure they stop at traffic lights, stay within the speed limit and drive on the correct side of the road, but other than that, they seem to forget about road safety...a lot.

To be fair to Blathers, the "genuine" artwork is probably also fake but higher quality, seeing as you can get multiple "real" copies. Plus, you're on a deserted island in international waters. There's no jurisdiction there.
