Evo India, you do know your audience very well.
It's the urge to share somwthing which is close to you is amazing.
It's not everyday you see this much of curated vehicles in a single video.
    This is Happiness !!
    Heartfelt Gratitude!!
Now that Roxx has been unveiled. FJ series will be much more comfortable on this chassis.
Mahindra should do something like Jeep Safari from nation-wide vehicles.

People need to understand that we Indians love jeep because of mahindra and not because of jeep itself mahindra has done so many things in last 7 decades and because of those changes and evolutions the jeep has become an integral part of indian automotive industry so jeep heritage is mahindras history as well and people should not directly say that mahindra is a copycat.

100% agree with what u said and also not to mention the contribution mahindra had in rural India, where having a 4x4 was not a luxury but a necessity !! That's why people like us in the western ghats still love , cherish and drive the older mahindras till date. It makes me sad when people, not knowing the history and contribution of the brand blindly call mahindra copycat.

Very well said. We should have that patriotism not only because Mahindra is Indian company but because as one of the company in the industry it has done so much and has evolved into one of the giants in automobile industry. Don't know why some people talk negative abt Mahindra. It has produced several vehicles till today which are Reliable, Rugged, Sturdy and Powerful catering to all type of customers in India. Any way wish Mahindra does even better and better in coming days.

I didn't know the CJ4 was so old. I remember my family used to have it in the 80s - early 90s, back when my father was posted in remote rural towns in Mizoram. I remember the roads were aptly called "jeep roads" because they were always in terrible condition and the only vehicle capable enough to traverse them were the Jeeps.
This video brings back so many memories: The sky blue Jeep of my childhood, the rugged grab handlebars on the front passenger side, the weirdly shaped but functional bonnet hooks, the basic but stiff bumper, the side ventilation doors near the footwells, the bare-bone gear levers, the old-school dials, and so much more!
Thank you, Sirish and Team Evo for the trip down memory lane - A big fan from Mizoram.

    What an episode Evo india!!
Mahindra has, is and always be special for me just like any Indians. My fond memories with Mahindra start with an MM 540 which my dad used to own in a white colour while he was working in Tea plantations of Kerala. I still remember me standing and holding on to the metal beam in the dashboard whenever we travel and the 3 year old me feeling like a badass Man!!😂
Since most of my life were in plantations, I was growing up seeing these jeeps, be it the MM 540, the cl500, Invader, Thar, Bolero etc. Soon after I became a legal driver, I used to drive a 2012 Thar Di which was my dad's company Vehicle in a plantation at Neliampathy hills. Initially I never used to like it since it was crude and bare bones. But once I start driving it, My god, it was a blast!!
I always use to drive with the front windshield opened, and pretends to be police since it was White 😂. And must say, it great fun to drive this badass on a hilly road.
I'm just crying inside that I'm not that kid anymore who used to stand inside my MM 540. But Sireesh my bro, I tell you, this episode was a time travel to my own life which was good back then. Thankyou again to the entire Team. I wish I was part of this.
Sireesh I really hope I meet you someday where we talk about some old cars. Fingers crossed 🤞

I do drive 2017 Thar before that I used Classic for some time and it was just "HELL OF A RIDE" now though it's a completely different with the '17 Thar it is incomplete in many ways but it doesn't matter when you take it to off-roading where instantly you will love it the way it tackles terrains, i do long distance in it... the most beautiful thing you stop on freeway for a chai break and you cannot hesitate to take camera out and clicks some pics of it "Damm I own one!!!"

Hi, Evo India Channel and host Shrish Chandran,
    Congratulations!,
For making one of the best video on long journey of Mahindra and Mahindra's "Gone But Not Forgotten", truly a heart touching experience. Hats on to all those legends M & M veterans, who created an automotive history in India. Special thanks to Mr. Adil Jal Darukhanawala, an automotive legend himself, came out with hard back book on M & M journey and evolution., will deffinately buy the book.
I think the Turing Point, the models such as MM 350, military model was for today's Thar, Commander for Armada and then Bolero, but CJ 160 pickup was the classic design innovation of that era. Round curved wind screen, side engine, quarter glass for wind/air deflections, till air-conditioning was introduced in India, was nostalgic, kudos to the owner, who still maintained, looked great.
Shish yourself and Channel done a great jobs, lots of pain and efforts to bring all those old models together for this shoot. Job well done.
Do expect same sort of story with Tata Motors!
    We enthusiasts do deserve that.
Good Luck and looking forward to Channel.

Love manual, got a petrol manual daily, squeezes in 22kmpl in a city, awesome on highways. Would never swap for an automatic unless it's a pdk or better.

@@devashishvaid fair enough, I love manual cars but the comfort of automatic transmission has spoilt me. At least in the city, I wouldn’t want a manual car, it’s just tiring to me. Also, Some of the Torque converters are Aisin in Mahindra, VW, Skoda and others, they are pretty seamless IMO, but of course driving habits differs and so does the gearbox response.

@@Newbutold Haha, yes. We all are spoilt in our own ways. Thanks for reminding me that the VW ones are the ones I somehow disliked the most. A crude Kia auto felt better tuned to me weirdly. As you said, spoilt to own driving habits.
I do love the appeal of autos, maybe in a wafty saloon or a gearbox as good as the pdk, But as relatively young I am in my age, am very old school in my likings, I would choose a manual over an auto in a heartbeat if it were offered by the factory.

Superb one from Sirish. Reminds us that we have kind of forgotten how these evolved and how interesting times it was. I remember the number of times my friend's pre owned MM540 in the 90s went to the workshop. The armada and commmander experience we had. Real nostalgic path this clip took me to while bringing out so much info that we wouldnt have got from anywhere so easily. Thank you for this .

Massive Thanks to Evo India for putting this one together. KUDOS.

A small suggestion: please make a video on jeeps made in mandi dabali, in terms of engineering, reliability and viability. Is it worth spending money on such jeeps or to go directly for stock mahindra vehicles shown in this video.

Used to travel in a Mahindra FJ Minibus for my daily school commute, absolutely hated the vehicle then for its cramped interior, small windows, rear facing first row bench and the non existent sound deadening which made even routine conversation impossible. But gradually over the years, learning the history of the Jeep lineage and especially the Jeep Forward Control has made me appreciate the long bygone memories of that old clunker now. Really appreciate this episode, seemed like a history lesson and entertainment all rolled into one!!! I still have fond memories of the fabulous "christmas tree" of tell tale lights that FJ had on its dashboard!

The MM550 had two versions. The 1st gen (till
2004) was the narrow track 51” (older gen C-type chassis of the 540s) it had Xd3p with 4 speed Kmt90 gearbox. In 2004 the NGCS came with a new box-type chassis and wider tracks (57” front and 53” rear). It had the same engine and 4 speed gearbox till 2005 when the 5-speed version came with the BA10 or NGT520 gearbox (I can’t recall 🤔). The DI Thar was based on the narrow Track 540.

Practically every GBNF episode is such a treat to watch. Along with nostalgia that these stories bring, it also gives them them the due respect. I personally have had very little with the Mahindra Jeeps. The very first memory of the Jeep that I can recall was back in 92-94. We used to travel to our school in Madikeri, Coorg by old Lambretta riskshaw. Once in a blue moon, when these would go for repairs, one Richie uncle as we used call him, would come to pick us up in a Jeep. though I don't remember the exact model, It was a dark blue Jeep and those rides in pouring rain brings back loads of memories. Other than that, its been mostly traveling in a overloaded jeep in Kerala or close to Mangalore, very rarely though. But these Major Jeeps are a err.. Major workhorses. The ways they transport people, with the driver held in place but people sitting next to him on the right side and the rest literally just hanging around. Not just Major, most of the Mahindras are, especially in some parts of Kerala, or tourist places where you need 4x4 to climb steep inclines. They make it look like a walk in the park. Modern Mahindras are a different story, the invasion of Electronics means a lot goes wrong with it. Though mechanically its mostly good. Hoping to see what the Thar Roxx does to the lifestyle segment
