Pros of buying in store: less expensive and you get to choose the one you like best. Cons: they are often in sad shape, overwatered or the one you want just never shows up. When they announced the Pink Princess, I bought one online. It was well packaged and delivery was fast. Mine was lovely with good variegation. There were two strong plants in the pot and a couple of babies. I was totally satisfied and felt the $50 was worth it. They recently announced they are going to sell Mayoi too.

I agree with all of your points, Kyra. I've never seen a Pink Princess being in our local stores and would have probably purchased online if I didn't already have one. Considering what they still go for, I still think $50 is a good deal for a PP.

@@PeggysPlants Costco had them last week with absolutely no variegation, if it wasn’t for the costa farms pink princess philodendron tags I wouldn’t have known that’s what they were.

Trader Joe’s had the Pink Princess for like $11 or $12. The pot I got had two clumps of plants, with 6+ stems in each clump- plus babies and the lumps under the soil that grow new plants (forgot what they are called). I’ve gotten many plants from them over the years and have never been disappointed.

Another thought about the price is it included shipping by UPS and with the size of the box and weight I’m sure is 10-15 dollars

Hi Peggy! The reason there's a difference in cost between the plants in stores and the plants online is that it's a lot more labor-intensive for our team to individually process, pull, pack, and ship a plant to your home than to send thousands at a time on a truck to stores (the two-day FedEx charges are also included in that online price). If you can find plants locally and in good condition at your local garden center, then it makes sense to get them there. If you prefer the convenience of having a plant shipped fresh from the farm straight to you without going into a store first, or can't find the variety you're looking for locally, then the online plant shop may make sense for you. We offer our online plant shop as an additional option to plant lovers so we can make our plants more accessible. Don't hesitate to reach out if you ever have any questions about this. We're here to help! ---Justin, Costa Farms Horticulturist

A few chameleon ZZ plants showed up in our area about three months ago, our Facebook plant group was buzzing about them but sadly, it wasn't restocked and I couldn't grab one...though I tried hard!
Recently, I ordered a Costa Farms one from Walmart's website. It arrived in 5 days. It was packaged as well as yours. My only concern was that the soil was very soggy. I immediately got them out of the soil and the roots and rhizomes were amazing!!! I split it between two pots because there was no way I was fitting them back in the original. It was $45, free shipping, and came with a smooth white pot and wooden stand. Looking back, I wish I had just ordered it months ago instead of hitting up 8 Lowe's in one weekend.

Your squami looks nice and healthy ! It's always nice to be satisfied with your purchase, especially when it arrives in the mail.
The Costa Farm squamis that they deliver to the box stores come in 10" bucket and is around $50 also per plant. I've only seen them twice this whole year in my area - once at WallMart and once at Lowe's. I bought one, but I actually prefer the size that you have due to limited space at my place. The plant is so easy to grow. I did have to totally replace its soil though - there were mushrooms sprouting out of the soil that it came with , and fungus gnats were all over those mushrooms; Ewww.
I bought directly from CF once: a Monstera Peru for $50. Two weeks later I saw them at HD for $20, LOL. I got one from HD too as a backup. Yes, the direct buy from CF was bushier than the HD plant and looked beautiful at un-packaging, but the CF plant had some unrooted cuttings that were simply stuck into the damp soil; I felt a bit cheated when I discovered that. About two months after the purchase, the CF plant died. I still have the HD plant 5+ months after purchase. Personally I don't think I will buy direct from CF again.

Someone else told me that have only seem the Squamis in buckets for $50 in the big box stores. Interesting. I wonder if they are offering them in the pots in other locations or not? When the ZZ Ravens were first offered, I bought 2 on Amazon from Cost for $30 each. The next week after they arrived, I saw them locally in big box stores for $20. I couldn't get too upset because I love my Ravens. However, now, I'm more inclined to wait until the plants make it to the stores...unless I just can't wait...lol

Peggy thank you. I've wondered was it worth the extra money. In Ohio there's so many plants that don't reach us , or sell out fast and you can't catch them. That being said the extra 15 dollars I will patiently 😌 wait. Again I appreciate what you did for us. With winter coming we would have to purchase heat packs for them to travel from some nurseries at an additional cost. God bless

Peggy, long time no see😂❤. I agree 100% with everything in your video. The costs farms website has way more variety than what you can find in the stores. True, more expensive but when you factor in free shipping and extensive variety it can be worth it. Obviously don’t buy the plants that can be purchased in person😊. I bought the white knight after I stalked their website for 2 weeks waiting for the restock. It came in just like yours, a rooted cutting and so healthy. Of course I repotted a few days after because coco coir mix they use😏😂.
