Could somebody explain to me, why Religion is still so strong in the US? I'm from Switzerland, Europe and even though there still are many religious people it's much more toned down and belongs into the private life. If somebody argues with religion, people will mostly laugh. But why not in the US?
People lived in Europe for longer and had more time to realize this. We are one country here, US, and we only really see one way - Christianity (It is the majority, but of course there are other religions here too). What I am saying is, you have bordering countries who are extremely religious, or were in the past, and you learned from the mistakes of those countries that religion is not the way to go. But for us, we are really far away from the rest of the world so we haven't adopted those views yet. Of course, the internet and education is changing that, thankfully. I'd say in 1 century religion will be a minority.
I tend to think seeing the horrors of World War I and II firsthand in Europe caused them to become less religious than Americans during the first half of the 20th Century. Now we're seeing religious belief in Europe increase due to Muslim immigration while religious belief is in sharp decline in the USA.

Yeh, but... he was born back in 1892. Literally everyone was religious back then. Just because Tolkien was a wise man it didn’t mean he knew everything. Especially since he was brought up to be that way. 😏

@Tel Aviv The beginning of the earth and the universe, like almost everything, has not been totally worked out in every small detail. However, we can say conclusively that it wasn’t willed into existence in a week or so ~5000 years ago. What we don’t know, shows we need to continue to figure stuff out. None of that points to any deity’s involvement. There is still, no proof for the existence of any of the 100s of proposed gods through out all of history. Not the latest ones or the older ones.
When I was 14, I asked my Sunday school teacher about all the contradictions that i saw in the bible. I had never heard the word fundamentalist at the time, but he replied by saying "if you don't accept every word of the Holy Bible as God's sacred word, then you don't accept any of it." I am eternally grateful to that Sunday School teacher for setting me free, because since i could not accept every word, i did not have to accept any of it. I stopped going to Sunday School and church and started on a path that eventually led me to being a happy Atheism.
And the constitution isn't there to tell people what's right or wrong; it protects a few fundamental rights of people. It saves a lot of hassle and that's about all it does. Without it you would still have laws protecting those rights, but fundamental christians for instance, could more easily change those to shut up critical thinkers. And even those laws don't tell right from wrong; they merely portray what we, the people, consider right and wrong. If we disagreed we could still change the constitution or throw it out altogether. Remember, we live in a democracy, not a theocracy. Our laws are not and never will be set in stone, no matter how much Americans think they are.
C D Hanks yeah man what did we do before the constitution, day before it was signed everyone was just mass raping corpses and drowning people and shit. No buddy.
I was a young-Earth creationist until about 7th grade. I was raised in a Christian household, and I spent kindergarten and first grade at a private school that taught this very idea. Today, I am at a university majoring in biology, and I definitely know that evolution happened. Public school science classes saved my brain. What really gets me about this shit is that trying to break free of these ideologies when they were engrained into you so young is really difficult. I spent years struggling with how to make the science I was being taught line up with the Biblical teaching I had received. It's sad to see that so many have been indoctrinated to believe this bullshit, and they can't break free of it.
I'm currently attending a private religious secondary school and I know that creationism is easily bullshit. Zero scientific evidence to prove creationism and lots of scientific evidence to prove evolutionism such as DNA, fossils, imperfect anatomy and physiology characteristics, etc.

My wonderful mother always told me that when they went through the process of deciding what parts of the bible to keep and what to throw out (AKA the Synod of Hippo and the Council of Nicaea) they decided to get rid of the very first page which said "Dedicated to my mother Mabel. This is a work of fiction. Names, places and events are imaginary and any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental."
Especially if you drop it into a fire; wouldn’t God protect his book? Then again, God said he doesn’t want to tested. Which is odd, because God could easily satisfy any test made of him, and doing so would increase the tester’s belief in him; only a false God would have any reason to fear testing.

Here's one of my favorites "The sun was created on day four".... how is that even possible of the word "day" implies the existance of a sun? What was generating "day" on days one two and three if the sun was created on "day four"? Another one (according to Genesis) - plants were created on day three. How did those plants survive without light from the sun (day four) to drive their photosynthetic processes? Another: The first rain was on day seven (according to Genesis) - how did those plants (day three) survive without the first rain (day seven)?

The omnipotence was always a logical fallacy. It's a contradictio in adjecto, a self-contradicting term. If God could do everything, He could build a prison from which He Himself could not escape, which would mean that He couldn't do everything.
Skynet and +rubjerg Omnipotence is defined as having virtually unlimited authority or influence Merriam webster Having unlimited power Dictionary.com This in no way translates to being able to do everything and anything. No, it says unlimited power, authority, or influence. Making a rock to big for omnipotence (unlimited power) to lift is not a question of power; by definition. He, by the terms of the question itself, has ALL power. No, the question is nonsensical. Its like asking what is the sound of green. Its not a issue of power, but of definition. Can one make a TRI (3) TRIangle circle? No, by definition the triangle has 3 angles and the circle has none. God doesnt lack power for not being able to make triangle circles. God doesnt lack power for not being able to make a rock so heavy He cant lift it. Its inherent nonsense. Inherently impossible.
Kyle Pierce So, according to you, saying "God cannot lie" is equivalent to saying "he cannot make a rock so heavy he cannot lift it"? I guess that might somehow apply if you would argue that he cannot make a lie into truth. That would be an acceptable limitation of an omnipotent god, but being able to tell a lie is not a feat for only the omnipotent, I can tell a lie, if god cannot, he is even less powerful than me, and I'm pretty sure I'm not omnipotent.
skynet3d, Why wouldn't it be? Is not God defined as omnipotent, yet unable to lie? Its the same thing. He cant make a lie into a truth. A lie, by definition, is the opposite of the truth. No, again, you are falling into the same trap. You being able to lie in no way means you have more power. It isnt about power. It is about words, their definitions, and the "law of non contradiction". Are you perfect? God is. Are you Holy? God is. Are you completely Just and devoid of ALL evil? God is. You are not. Therefore it is not a lacking of power that prevents God, but His very definition.
Because they are selling something dubious. An imaginary afterlife or prosperity gospel for tithes, love donations, or seed money. I was watching this one huckster organisation in Pheonix, Arizona, who cast out demons that cause all sorts of psychiatric/adictions problems. On his site, it was obvious that he did not know thing one about mental illness/personality disorders. I froze one of his TH-cam videos that he shot from his office (he called himself a doctor) and I zoomed into his doctorate diploma on the wall. The diploma was from a diploma mill, The diploma mill's physical address was located in a single suite in an general use office building and they didn't have a plackard on their wall, not a listing in the building's registry, or even signage out front or in the parking lot. It was sickening to me. Some of their meetings sounded like a tent revival, a whole lot of hands-on healing, and they loved talking in tounges and giving money. Some of the stuff that they said sounded dangerous. On their website, they made it known that one of the two main people, a husband and wife (the Smiths), the wife side gigs was realestate and the man said he was a professional councelor; I checked all of the states counceling/therapy's regulatory bodies and her name was not among any of them. I wrote them a damning Google review and I think that I reached out to the state's Board of Behavioral Health, Psychology Board, IPCC board, Marriage and Family Therapist board, and Drug Counselor Board; the sites had no evidence of the Smiths having licenses. I hope they were shut down.

@Tel Aviv No, they are based on testing. And if you were interested to knowing the truth, there are literally thousands of articles that explain the process. Below is a paragraph about dating. For the world's oldest objects, uranium-thorium-lead dating is the most useful method. "We use it to date the Earth," Higham said. While radiocarbon dating is useful only for materials that were once alive, scientists can use uranium-thorium-lead dating to measure the age of objects such as rocks. In this method, scientists measure the quantity of a variety of different radioactive isotopes, all of which decay into stable forms of lead. These separate chains of decay begin with the breakdown of uranium-238, uranium-235 and thorium-232. livescience.com/scientists-dating-methods.html
I know. Even as a Jew (I don't believe the new testament, but even just in the Torah), I was surprised when Alex said that was an exaggeration. I think it was perfectly accurate, even being generous.
Well, the Bible has only about 8 paragraphs per chapter, but yes; under normal circumstances it would be low... Although, with him reading about 5 mistakes in the first 2 paragraphs you would think there would be more mistakes.
I was more entertained by the assumption the preacher made that, because it averages to eight mistakes per chapter, that means every chapter must have eight mistakes in it. Logic makes a very clumsy weapon if you don't know how to wield it.
+Nicolle Stevens You forget how much of the bible is pointless stupid laundry lists of irrelevant nonsense or masturbatory post-facto "predictions". I had cause to look up Genesis 4:19-21 just yesterday and it's part of a long list of "And Jack gave birth to Jim-Bob, who was the inventor of the concept of living in tents, and his brother Bob-Bob was the inventory of playing some musical instruments that people had already invented but didn't know what they were for". Do you count that as a mistake? Or just stupid filler? That lowers the average. And then you get to jews eradicating a city in a holy war because they're assholes and writing "And on the Third Day they shalt visit vengeance unto the city of those dead mofos, and God will smile on all the bloody murder because he's a sadistic piece of shit" ten years later because this was what passed for recorded history back then. I mean, that's wrong, but is it a mistake? I wouldn't call Drizzt do'Urden a mistake, because fantasy fiction isn't meant to be taken as True(tm) and neither was that shit, but technically it isn't true so... what do you call it? Again, this lowers the average if you take it as just postdictive writing instead of a factual error.
I was once a christian. I was and am imperfect. This is true of all of us. Due to financial reasons, my parents had to take me out of christian school and stick me in public school. I was seen by the other kids in school as different, so they started fights with me and hit me a lot. I remember mom sewing christian patches on my jacket. One said, "One Way" with an arrow pointing up. I also remember my dad tearing off the merit patches on my christian version of boy scouts uniform. He did this because I took a can of pepsi from the fridge without paying him. I could go on and on. It is such a shame that people believe in nonsense. Just try to be good to one another.
The misprint is the bit that did it for me. The whole bit about them getting "And God created man" the wrong way round negated the books educational value, imho.

Ha. Maybe god will send a bear for you? 1) Sending Bears to Murder Children So a guy named Eliseus was traveling to Bethel when a bunch of kids popped up and made fun of him for being bald. That had to suck, and you can't blame Eliseus for being pissed and cursing them to God. But God had Eliseus' back, by which I mean he sent two bears to maul 42 of these kids to death. For making fun of a bald dude. I have to think Eliseus was looking for something along the lines of a spanking, or maybe the poetic justice of having the kids go bald, but nope, God went straight for the bear murder. But on the plus side, that pile of 40+ children's corpses never made fun of anybody again. (4 Kings 2:23-24) Hating Ugly People In what should be good news for intolerant religious conservatives, God really does hate people who are different from the norm. Of course, God isn't as worried about skin color or sexual orientation as he is about whether you're ugly or not. Because if you're ugly, you can just go worship some other god, okay? (Even though God will punish you if you do and also they don't exist.) Here's the people God does not want coming into his churches: People with blemishes, blind people, the lame, those with flat noses, dwarves, people with scurvy, people with bad eyes, people with bad skin, and those that "hath their stones broken." Given that God is technically responsible for giving people all of these afflictions in the first place, this is an enormous dick move. (Leviticus 21:17-24)
A man is resting under a tree in the year of 2016. A kid behind the tree is trying to hit a bird with a rock. He misses the bird and the stone hits the man's face. The kid hides behind another tree so the man doesn't see the kid. He figures it out: He was resting when he was could've been working so god sent him a sign. The man starts to work everyday without resting and ends up being a millionaire. He is exhausted, but rich, and everytime someone compliments his hard work, he says "It was all because of god who guided me". I see religion as coincidences and devaluation (don't know if this is the right term) of the human effort.
Sounds like a kid with really bad aim. Where was the bird? Was it sitting on the man's face or flying by? The thing to get from this story is "Argument from Ignorance". The man didn't see who through the stone so he concluded that god did it.
john clewes I wouldn't go that far. I don't think anyone honestly wants to lie to people. What would they have to gain? Power? That ended when the kingdom was separated from the church in England, hundreds of years ago.

When the flood had ended God promised not to use the flood again with a rainbow. Big bang is a scientist hypothesis and let there be light is in bible but still it correlates right? And also scientest conclude that light can create matter but only if done right not just luck. With the precise intervals and amount of light. You never seen a matter create from nothing right? Because they said only a higher being or a creator can do that. And also bible theories are appearing now like the giants and its gigantic skeletons, noahs ark and moses tablets and what do we know to conclude that something is impossible? 5 percent of our universe is visible to earth even in the strongest devices. Dark matter makes up 30.1 percent of the matter-energy composition of the universe; the rest is dark energy (69.4 percent) and “ordinary” visible matter (0.5 percent). Earth is 71 percent water 5 percent of ocean is only discovered. We are only are 0.7 civilization where as 15 almost discovered everything. Earth crust is 65 percent unexplored Crust is only 1 percent of it Every 500 years we change our universally accepted facts like earth is flat changed to like a globe Wright brothers were told that humans are impossible to fly yet they flown after years only. So bro. How is impossible define to you if humans dont even know a thing in this world. And what is fictional and what is not. All i can tell you is God is real and there is only one God. So can you please read bible , study our history and research so you will hopefully understand that only this book, the bible is what we can trust in this mysterious world. The words of God. This world is lucifers kingdom. This world is only a test and full of suffering and God wants to know if you can love him more than yourself. Because lucifer betrayed God because he was obsessed to himself and rebelled against God. God is testing you through all this pain and if you fail to love him. You will become lucifers slaves for he envies humanity. The price for the ones who will love him is eternal happiness. So much better than 100 years of suffering in earth. GOD is giving us free will. For God loves us. Please use this free will to love God back and dont make it unrequited.

@@renzezekieldivida3014 sequencial prophecies in israel this are the prophecies fulfilled that man cannot make up which makes bible a book of future and made of a higher being which is God The nation of Israel, which had been divided into two kingdoms since the time of Solomon (950B.C.) Israel in the north and Judah in the south would be one united nation in the last days (Ezekiel 37:15-22). And so it is, Israel is one nation. The nation Israel would be born in one day (Isaiah 66:8). On May 14, 1948 Israel became a nation During the Diaspora (the dispersion of the Jews to the four corners of the globe); Israel would become a wasteland (Deuteronomy 29:23-28; Ezekiel 36:8-11; Ezekiel 36:33-36). During the past 1900 years Israel became a nearly uninhabited, desolate wasteland. Israel, once a desolate desert, would blossom in the last days and export produce to the world (Isaiah 27:6; 35:1-2; Ezekiel 36:34-36). Israel's increased rainfall and world-renowned irrigation technology have caused the land to blossom. Incredibly, as foretold, they currently export over 800 million dollars worth of fresh produce each year, including over 200 million in flowers and ornamental plants! The Jews would begin to regather in Israel (Isaiah 11:11-12; Ezekiel 37:21-22; 38:8; Luke 21:29-31). Over five million Jews have returned to Israel in recent times! This is unprecedented in human history. Never has a people group been dispersed for hundreds of years to every corner of the globe, and then regathered back to their homeland. Yet, God said it and He has done it before our very eyes Returning Jews would come from the north, south, east, and west (Isaiah 43:5-6; Jeremiah 31:7-10). Amazingly, nearly a million Jews have emigrated from Russia in the north. Over 100,000 Ethiopian Jews have emigrated from the south (Zephaniah 3:10). Since 1948, Jews have emigrated from Europe, Asia, and the Americas, everywhere All surrounding nations would be united against Israel (Psalm 83:4-8; Zechariah 12:2). This has never happened in history. Yet today, Israel is surrounded by Muslim nations sworn to her destruction. Muhammad said: The Hour (last day) will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say 'O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.'" (Sahih Al-Bukhari, vol. 4, b. 52, Hadith # 177) The returning Jews would have no king until Jesus returns (Hosea 3:4- 5). As foretold, Israel has been without a king for over 2500 years. Amazingly, not only is Israel no longer a theocracy, but today the Jewish state is governed by a democracy comprised of multiple political parties. Rebuilt temple in Israel anticipated (Daniel 9:27; 12:11; Mark 13:14; 2 Thessalonians 2:4; Revelation 11:1-2). The prophet Daniel, Jesus, Paul, and John all refer to the temple in the last days. Therefore we know it must be rebuilt. Preparations by the Temple Institute are nearly complete Israel would be invincible (Zechariah 12:6-9). Since 1948, tiny Israel has been attacked in three major wars and several lesser wars. Yet despite being vastly outnumbered, they have defeated all attacking foes. Even during the final battle, when it looks like Israel will be destroyed, the Lord shall deliver her (Jeremiah 30:3-7; Zechariah 14; Mark 13:14-20). An invincible Israel makes no sense unless you believe God's Word.
This is a wonderful video. I am so happy I found it. I saw it on the Friendly Atheist. I love when you let the preacher speak and then refute his arguments point by point. It breaks up his sing song delivery which I find very disturbing. I was raised as a fundie and subjected to this drivel constantly. Your arguments are clear, concise and make good sense. I am sharing this with my sons who are both atheists and to whom I am forever grateful for helping me shed my religious indoctrination. Thank you and keep up the good work.
CosmicSkeptic And please explain how gravity is theory. yes yes you and all your fellow scientists have agreed hat theory trumps fact and conveniently move on. But yet it's still invisibly here and unexplained. why can't someone just say I don't know, instead of I don't know but it not God. If you've read anything out of the Bible yourself and not just google "gotcha marks" Christ said the greatest command is charity. Christ was accused of eating with the publicans and simmered you mook. You have no reference except hitchens and Dawkins. And as I recall hitchens during his last stages said he still didn't believe, but does like surprises...I'm sure he was. And Dawkins....hahaha...the science field laughs at him. he's a hack a puppet. proven time and again. Darwin said don't believe his writings. ......How low is your confidence you have to believe the sheep of the world.
Nathan Bovee I am going to jump in an try and untangle that word salad that you tried to frame as a question. Yes, gravity is a theory. A scientific theory is something that has been gone through testing either through observation or experiment and found to be accurate and repeatable. Theories are factual but can be revised and added to as we learn more about the universe. Right now they are working to understand gravity at a quantum level and tie it together with the other forces. Science always says "we don't know" or at least "we don't know YET". But how do you figure that gravity is unexplained? In what manner does a natural force require explanation? If you are looking for purpose in the universe itself, who says that it requires one? I have no idea what you mean by "you have no reference except Hitchens and Dawkins". Reference to or for what exactly? And you would be wrong to consider that Hitch ever believed unless you want to call his widow and every last one of his friends that saw him at the end liars. Are you calling his widow a liar?? In reference to Dawkins - he's held in a very high regard in the science world. You should actually talk to some people in science - even those that I know in the world of physics hold him in high regard so you are off your rocker if you believe that.
I was just thinking about this the other day. How can people believe in a book written thousands of years yet they want an upgraded phone every other year. Thank you so much for doing this video!
I think it has something to do with them not wanting an upgraded book but wanting an upgraded phone. I think. I think more about how they deny science but are perfectly fine with benefitting from all the scientific advances that wouldn't be here if their religion had full control of the world.
@pale rider revelation 8 v 6 yes, and in the greek manuscripts that the christians burned, the primordial gods created the cosmos(universe), the realm of ouranos(space) and then gaia(earth) emerged. now what? we can have all the religious claims about gods creating the universe and still we have no proof of gods.

God lies in the very beginning of the Bible. He tells Adam and Eve that they can't eat from the tree in the middle of the garden of Eden (the tree of knowledge) because if they do, they will die. The serpent speaks to Eve and asks her if she has eaten from the fruit and Eve tells him no, because God had said they would surely die. The serpent says to her that they most certainly will not die, but that they will be like God knowing both good and evil. Eve eats the fruit from the tree of knowledge and doesn't die, but then knows of both good and evil. God punished the serpent by saying he would have to move on his belly all his life (not too bad considering he's a snake), then he punishes Eve by making pregnancy and birth super painful. I wonder why God would be so keen to keep his creation from knowing the difference between good and evil. Maybe he wanted to perform evil deeds without them knowing they were evil deeds? Maybe because them knowing the evilness of God would mean that their worship would be imperfect. As a narcissistic prick, imperfect worship just wouldn't be ok. By the way don't believe a word of it. But they teach it in every primary/nursery school in the UK before they teach science so I found myself getting stuck into the Bible so that when my kids tell me about how good God is, I can ask them the right questions to get them questioning it for themselves. It's tough, I want to shout "No kids! God doesn't exist!" But that's as bad as telling them he does.
@@js66613 you can't know that, i mean im not christian, BUT i have to say that your favorite science says that you can define something as true when you observe it, you didn't see god, that doesn't mean there is none. Just because you never saw me doesn't mean that i do not exist. The answer for existence of god is MAYBE he exists, maybe not, there is no such thing as "you didn't see him he does not exist" because you can classify something as real , when you observe it, only then it becomes your reality. I personally hate everyone :D (atheists, muslims, christians)
@@jindrichsander9555 Well, I know that. Just because I can't see atoms with my own eyes does not mean they don't exist. But there is proof for them and no proof of God. To me he's non existent until proven otherwise and for now the odds are stacked against him. Even if A God existed it likely wouldn't be THE God described the Bible, the Torah or the Qur'an. For that all the proof you need is around you and in the very book that claims he exists and is the way described - countless acts of his disagree with an all-loving God and countless contradictions point to a person or force that isn't omnipotent. My favourite science is not a single branch of it - it is the whole of it. Theology is merely the analysing of a few fictitious and contradictory texts that no one has bothered to update to work with the real world. The modern world. Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geology... All of those and more branches of real sciences can and do work against the theory of a Christian or a Muslim or a Jewish God. I can't be certain that no God exists. But I can be certain their specific God doesn't exist and I can say that cherry picking from texts to make it seem as though their God is more likely to exist... Is a desperate attempt to hold onto a faith that isn't all it's cracked up to be. Some texts of the Bible make go nice stories but never for facts. But once you observe God, then send me some solid proof and I'll believe you. However whether I see it as reliable and accurate will have to be up to me, since anyone can assume that a single piece of proof is definite only for it to be wrong.
Actually, examining the personality of the person making the arguments goes a long way to understanding their motivation. For instance, in this case, we have a con-artist that uses a book of bronze age myths and fairy tales, to fleece gullible sheep of their cash. This is not an opinion, it is fact based on observation. Therefore, we must conclude that any and all arguments made by said con-man are aimed at doing that and only that.
It's not a coincidence that you see so many religious leaders use a chant or rhythmic pattern when they preach. It's the same reason soft emotional music is played behind them so often. He using known psychological tricks in order to add "power" to his words.

Dude! Many years ago I was confronted by a rube who said that I had to "read the Bible and get right with God". I said: "I read the Bible, for the first time, when I was 12. By the end of the first sentence I realized it was a novel and by the end of the first paragraph I realized it was a very poorly written novel. I was raised in an agnostic household but, by the time I finished the Bible the first time, I was an atheist."
@MONALISA he must have gotten board pretty quickly. Can you imagine yourself as an all-knowing, all-powerful god without there being anything else at all in existence to contemplate? Now that would be a hell of a Hell in my mind. Such an entity would almost be bound to create a universe full of stuff to play with. And, not having had a mom and dad to bring him up, is it any surprise that his play would result in so much confusion and destruction? I think I'll phone Matt with this proof of god...
Even when I was younger and tried to follow Christian values I always thought that god tried to give his words to the people and they messed them up. I mean it's impossible for a book to be written without bias and (unless you believe that god himself wrote the Bible) I never got how people think it could be untouched by man. If you think that a prophet of some sort wrote down the words of god (like I used to) then I question if you think a book written in biblical times that has been translated from different languages and copied down and written over and over again cannot change overtime. I simply have never been able to trust the human parts of the Bible. The parts influenced by what society used to be like and how people used to think. I may not believe in god now but I have never believed 100% in every one of the Bible's words
In terms of the translation bit, that holds true even if God wrote it. To test this, I'm going to put the phrase "The bible is perfectly impeccable, without any contradictions" through Google Translate about 15 times. It turned out as: "The Bible is not perfect,". I kid you not. I don't think that translation is reliable.
Lilly Bean I completely agree. I grew up in a conservative Christian family and grew up with my mom using the same arguments as this preacher(because she is one) I slowly began to notice the logical fallacies used in the arguments, so I started to dig more. I eventually came to the conclusion that certain sections of the Bible like the 10 commandments and many of the words of Jesus were the most accurate and everything else can only be described as humans narrow thought processes attempting to understand god. If you have ever heard of the blind men on an elephant analogy my beliefs of the Bible is a lot like that. So in a brief summary of what could be a mile long post I came to the conclusion that the Bible is in a sense true, but it should certainly be taken with a grain of salt. Because as you said it is influenced by fallible humans who knew very little about science, math and world in general. So I came to my own personal conclusion that there is a god, however it is extremely naive to think that any one small minded group of humans has it right, so now I identify as a 'Christian pluralist'
Deb Weathers -Sometimes it is also created with the intent to lure people into a false sense of belief and use it to spread its laws, it literally contaminates society, shifting people to its view by force. People believe in it because it offers benefits to them that they like and some are just forced into believing in it to maintain it.
I am not sure what your asking but if your asking were did my statement come from. I just got 5that impression from how something the man said was worded.

Cosmic Skeptic was wrong on both things here, 7:15. First he says the Bible states that our earth is flat which is not true and he says that there are trees older than a few thousand years old, that's also not true. The oldest tree in the world is under 5 thousand years old, so honestly Alex needs to stop assuming claims that aren't true.
Hi Alex. My name is Joseph. I was wondering if you could recommend a book that explains scientific principles about the universe for a non-scientific audience. I've read Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" three or four times. That was very informative. I'm just eagerly looking for more. Thank you.
The actual content of "The Bible" was decided upon at the Synod of Hippo in 393 when a group of bishops sorted through various ancient writings and decided - "we'll have this one and that one, but not those there" in the same way that an editor of a poetry anthology decides which poems to include in a publication. "The Bible" is NOT a divine publication, it is a subjective collection of ancient texts, the authorships of which are not exactly known, written hundreds of years after the supposed events occurred and often drawn from the writings of various other cultures.
@Firestrike Jesus Christ (if he existed c. 0 - 33 AD. Writing of the first gospels 70 - 120 AD. Synod of Hippo and Council of Nicea c 390 - 400 AD. King James Bible the 1620s. How the heck do you get the KJV to be the original? It is at least 1200 years too late for that!
@Firestrike You make unsupported and supernatural based claims, then you ask me for sources? Life of Jesus, your holy book I guess, there really aren't any other sources out there (and before you start Josephus is doctored and only talks about the movement, not the man, same for the other secular writers of the time). The common view among biblical scholars is that the gospels in the bible were written well after the life and death of Jeshua ben Joseph (I would agree with you he probably existed but as you guessed I don't believe he was divine in any way). Check out Bart Ehrman. Mark was probably the first of the synoptic gospels written and textual nd historical analysis put it during the Jewish rising of 65-74 AD so a date of around 70 AD is appropriate. In the beginning there were many factions of Christianity with their own books and gospels. For example the Gnostics many of whose books were found in the Nag Hamadi cache. It is the adoption of Christianity as the official faith of the Roman emperors in the 4th Century AD that leads to a drive for uniformity. By the late 4th Century as pagan rites and buildings were being attacked and closed down the Empire required a canon of books so that they would know who were true believers and who were heretics. We have good records of Roman history so we know the Synod of Hippo took place and produced an official list of books for a New Testament which is still essentially the NT of the Catholic and Protestant faiths (Orthodox church has a sightly different roster). You said the King James version was the "original" bible. Again given it comes 1200 years after Hippo and is an English translation of Greek originals and Latin translations of those, I find your description of it as being "the original" more faith based than fact based. Nothing wrong with that if you are a believer but it is factually inaccurate if you are a historian or a biblical scholar.

I'd say in 1 century religion will be a minority.
xPoemi I think it dates back to our nations infancy. Pilgrims basically came here to explore religious extremeism
I'll give you some advice. STAY IN SWITZERLAND
I tend to think seeing the horrors of World War I and II firsthand in Europe caused them to become less religious than Americans during the first half of the 20th Century.
Now we're seeing religious belief in Europe increase due to Muslim immigration while religious belief is in sharp decline in the USA.
Yes, because your lovely, secular, culturally dead European countries are the absolute model of society.

The beginning of the earth and the universe, like almost everything, has not been totally worked out in every small detail.

It's called the Constitution.
C D Hanks the constitution isnt a book jackass. its a document
C D Hanks and i was talking about the bible

God cannot lie? So there goes the all powerful thing...
The omnipotence was always a logical fallacy. It's a contradictio in adjecto, a self-contradicting term. If God could do everything, He could build a prison from which He Himself could not escape, which would mean that He couldn't do everything.
Frank Sikazwe nope he can't. Because he's not omnipotent 😎
Skynet and +rubjerg
Omnipotence is defined as
having virtually unlimited authority or influence
Merriam webster
Having unlimited power
Dictionary.com
This in no way translates to being able to do everything and anything.
Why do these guys always sound like they are trying to sell you a used car?
Well they are selling a lot of recycled myths, so it kind of makes sense.

Shadow in a Cave wow, I was thinking the same... "I'm not very good at math...". You don't say!
+Nicolle Stevens You forget how much of the bible is pointless stupid laundry lists of irrelevant nonsense or masturbatory post-facto "predictions".

Ha. Maybe god will send a bear for you?
1) Sending Bears to Murder Children
So a guy named Eliseus was traveling to Bethel when a bunch of kids popped up and made fun of him for being bald. (4 Kings 2:23-24)
Hating Ugly People
In what should be good news for intolerant religious conservatives, God really does hate people who are different from the norm.
LOL, " deliberate distortion " might be more appropriate.????
Sounds like a kid with really bad aim. Where was the bird? Was it sitting on the man's face or flying by?
The thing to get from this story is "Argument from Ignorance". The man didn't see who through the stone so he concluded that god did it.
john clewes I wouldn't go that far. I don't think anyone honestly wants to lie to people. What would they have to gain? Power? That ended when the kingdom was separated from the church in England, hundreds of years ago.

yes true I could not be so emotional cool, but live in europe and met a american that didnt beleive in evolution and as I found out I felt suddenly creapy of him.Nowadays I would have challanged him.
Just some examples of contradictions:
Shall we kill or not?:
Exodus 20:13 "Thou shalt not kill."
Leviticus 24:17 "And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death."
vs.
Exodus 32:27 "Thus sayeth the Lord God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, . . . and slay every man his brother, . . . companion, . . . neighbor."
I Samuel 6:19 " . . . and the people lamented because the Lord had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter."
Has anyone ever seen god?:
I John 4:12 "No man hath seen God at any time."
vs.
Genesis 32:30 "For I have seen God face to face."
Exodus 33:11 "And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend."
When was Jesus crucified?:
Mark 15:25 "And it was the third hour, and they crucified him."
vs.
John 19:14-15 "And about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! But they cried out . . . crucify him."
Did Paul's men hear a voice?
Acts 9:7 "And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man."
vs.
Acts 22:9 "And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me."
Is God omnipotent?
Matthew 19:26 "But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible."
vs.
Judges 1:19 "And the Lord was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron."
JESUS AND THE THIEVES:
Some gospels say Jesus was crucified with two thieves, though the Romans never crucified thieves.
Mark - The two thieves are mentioned, but there is no conversation
Matthew 27:44 - The two thieves taunt Jesus
Luke 23:39-42 - One thief taunts Jesus and is criticized by the other. Jesus promises the 2nd thief that they would be in Paradise that day, though John and Acts say he did not ascend to heaven until 40 days after his resurrection
John - The two men aren’t described as thieves
JESUS’ LAST WORDS:
Mark 15:34-37, Matthew 27:46-50 - Jesus says: “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (but they use different Greek words for “God” - Matthew uses “Eli, is” and Mark uses “Eloi”)
Luke 23:46 - Jesus says: “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit.”
John 19:30 - Jesus says: “It is finished.”
Wagner There's killing, then there's murdering. Judah could not drive out the inhabitants with iron chariots (the 12 tribes namesakes are personified in Judges including Judah; if it was God the writer talked about, it wouldn't really be God or any being worthy of worship). Prophets have seen God (through angels) in human form, but not God Itself, which no mortal has the aura nor compacity to comprehend. As for Yeshua's past words, he probably said all those things

God is not a fictional being bro. I know its hard for you to understand. But bible is a book that knows the future 100 percent and told prophecies that is accurate. Meaning a higher being can only make that. A human cannot do that. If you read the bible. You will know what im saying bro. Not gonna lie about it and waste my time. If you done your research too. There is something called God particle that scientist test and was proven that it can create matter. Ever heard of big bang and let there be light? If not thats very misfortunate of you.
Earth is 71 percent water
5 percent of ocean is only discovered.
We are only are 0.7 civilization where as 15 almost discovered everything.
Earth crust is 65 percent unexplored
Crust is only 1 percent of it
Every 500 years we change our universally accepted facts like earth is flat changed to like a globe
Wright brothers were told that humans are impossible to fly yet they flown after years only.

-you know physicists, the ones who has actual PhD. Well, apparently they tell is that we should not think that the big bang was the first thing that emerged from this world. It is basically a place-holder for loose ends/a.k.a lack of the outside cosmological knowledge. Maybe there were big bangs before this one? One has once said. So yeah, you should not refer the big bang, as if the bible was referring to it as "there was light" sentence in genesis.
-you claiming that there was a god that created all of this mess is an extraordinary claim. That is a mistake you don't want to make sir. Asserting that there were some high power beyond the cosmos, can be dismissed by saying that there were no high power beyond the cosmos. Assertion, over assertion and repeat, your not going anywhere. @@renzezekieldivida3014 sequencial prophecies in israel
this are the prophecies fulfilled that man cannot make up which makes bible a book of future and made of a higher being which is God
The nation of Israel, which had been divided into two kingdoms since
the time of Solomon (950B.C.) Israel in the north and Judah in the south
would be one united nation in the last days (Ezekiel 37:15-22). And so it is,
Israel is one nation.
The nation Israel would be born in one day (Isaiah 66:8). On May 14,
1948 Israel became a nation
During the Diaspora (the dispersion of the Jews to the four corners of
the globe); Israel would become a wasteland (Deuteronomy 29:23-28;
Ezekiel 36:8-11; Ezekiel 36:33-36). During the past 1900 years Israel
became a nearly uninhabited, desolate wasteland.
Israel, once a desolate desert, would blossom in the last days and
export produce to the world (Isaiah 27:6; 35:1-2; Ezekiel 36:34-36).
Israel's increased rainfall and world-renowned irrigation technology have
caused the land to blossom. Incredibly, as foretold, they currently export
over 800 million dollars worth of fresh produce each year, including over
200 million in flowers and ornamental plants!
The Jews would begin to regather in Israel (Isaiah 11:11-12; Ezekiel
37:21-22; 38:8; Luke 21:29-31). Over five million Jews have returned to
Israel in recent times! This is unprecedented in human history. Never has a
people group been dispersed for hundreds of years to every corner of the
globe, and then regathered back to their homeland. Yet, God said it and He
has done it before our very eyes
Returning Jews would come from the north, south, east, and west
(Isaiah 43:5-6; Jeremiah 31:7-10). Amazingly, nearly a million Jews have
emigrated from Russia in the north. Over 100,000 Ethiopian Jews have
emigrated from the south (Zephaniah 3:10). Since 1948, Jews have
emigrated from Europe, Asia, and the Americas, everywhere
All surrounding nations would be united against Israel (Psalm 83:4-8;
Zechariah 12:2). This has never happened in history. Yet today, Israel is
surrounded by Muslim nations sworn to her destruction. Muhammad said: The
Hour (last day) will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the
stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say 'O Muslim! There is a Jew
hiding behind me, so kill him.'" (Sahih Al-Bukhari, vol. 4, b. 52, Hadith #
177)
The returning Jews would have no king until Jesus returns (Hosea 3:4-
5). As foretold, Israel has been without a king for over 2500 years.
Amazingly, not only is Israel no longer a theocracy, but today the Jewish
state is governed by a democracy comprised of multiple political parties.
Rebuilt temple in Israel anticipated (Daniel 9:27; 12:11; Mark 13:14; 2
Thessalonians 2:4; Revelation 11:1-2). The prophet Daniel, Jesus, Paul, and
John all refer to the temple in the last days. Therefore we know it must be
rebuilt. Preparations by the Temple Institute are nearly complete
Israel would be invincible (Zechariah 12:6-9). Since 1948, tiny Israel
has been attacked in three major wars and several lesser wars. Yet despite
being vastly outnumbered, they have defeated all attacking foes. Even during
the final battle, when it looks like Israel will be destroyed, the Lord shall
deliver her (Jeremiah 30:3-7; Zechariah 14; Mark 13:14-20). An invincible
Israel makes no sense unless you believe God's Word.

Leanne Davis Thanks, I was going to respond but didn't have the time.

Love this analogy!
What? I don't get that. I don't think anyone does.
I think it has something to do with them not wanting an upgraded book but wanting an upgraded phone. I think.
I think more about how they deny science but are perfectly fine with benefitting from all the scientific advances that wouldn't be here if their religion had full control of the world.

10:31 so let me get this... The book says god can't lie, and that's true because god says the book can't lie
*HMMMMMMMMM*
Of course God can't lie! He doesn't exist. So that'll be one truth that you can get in the Bible... and ANYWHERE else.
They say god cant lie, but can he wright a nonfiction book.
However whether I see it as reliable and accurate will have to be up to me, since anyone can assume that a single piece of proof is definite only for it to be wrong.
for some people stupidity is comforting, for some people intelligence is.

attack the arguments not the person.

I had very similar experiences growing up. Life is too short to lie to yourself. Regardless if there's a god or not just try to be a good person.
Legend has it that the Bible was just Dan Brown's first publisher-rejected book.
@Curtis Jones Ah, the reassuring all-caps of the brainwashed.
@Curtis Jones YOUR CAPS LOCK.

When did God create time?
Not in the "beginning" that's for sure.
If God has no beginning and no end then when did he start creating everything?
"I simply have never been able to trust the human parts of the Bible." Well, that would include the entire Bible. God didn't write any of it himself.
Lilly Bean You got the first part right
Lilly Bean I completely agree. I grew up in a conservative Christian family and grew up with my mom using the same arguments as this preacher(because she is one)
I slowly began to notice the logical fallacies used in the arguments, so I started to dig more.
This man right here is a genius. He deserves way more attention to show people the rational point of view on the subjects he talks about.
why god cannot lie. i thoght god can everything
Oh my !!! Alex, I love your debunking religion videos!!! 👏🙌👍
P.S. I'm on a CosmicSkeptic binge this week and loving it lol 😜

Lovely to hear that this video set you up for so much TH-cam success Alex. It is richly deserved! Continue sharing your brilliant mind with us all.
Thank you. Please dont stop doing this. Your making my mind stronger and educating many others.
I've officially viewed a sufficient number of your videos to reasonably be called "a fucking addict".
Your arguments are solid and well articulated, and your style and demeanor are welcoming and enjoyable.
Well played.
Now, if we could just let the sun hit your face every now and again...
"I bloody well hope you do not"
I can't believe how awesome that was. You are truly amazing, Cosmic Skeptic.
Michael Thwaite I thought that was the Council of Nicaea.
Dawg, the people listening to this pastor think Jesus spoke English. You're arguing way above their league!
Michael Thwaite the vast majority of Christian’s do not know this.
They also don’t know that they are actually Muslims. And that god is allah.
I have to ask... I'm new to this channel and I've just binge watched this 'response' playlist. Have any of these subjects ever got back to you after you've uploaded these videos?
Your ability to debate and think logically and rationally are seriously inspirational. I'm twice your age and it is so, so refreshing to see such a lucid, bright young mind talking sense on here. I love it. Also, how the hell do you stay so calm. I literally had to watch this in increments of a few seconds. That fanatical pastor just makes my blood boil.
So yeah, any feedback from any of these people?
Just Kate I would like to know that as well :)
I'm totally digging on your channel! Keep up the good work!
Alex: *drops Bible on the floor* Christians: “REEEEEE”
I’ve taken a hammer to mine. Seriously. Glad I kept it so I can actually look up all the terrible things in it that I hear about. It’s kinda like having the other team’s playbook. But about the hammer, I really did do that. Felt good.
