ABANA National Curriculum 1.5 - Forged Staple

  • Continuing the work through the level 1 ABANA NC.
    The forged staple will be used in the gate latch project at the end of 1.0.
    Key skills are really about being able to forge consistently to a given size and to calculate the amount of material needed.
    1.5 - FORGE A STAPLE [Gate latch]
    1.5.1 From a 7-inch length of 5/16-inch round bar. 11/8-inch ID.
    1.5.2 Two versions: chisel tip tapers and square tapers.
    One note I meant to mention but forgot is that it’s good practice to always hold the tip of a taper that you’re forging close to the offside edge, giving room for the hammer to move. You can see that covered in the video on tapers.

    Very cool! I've spent many heats just chasing the proper curve, this is great practice for just that

      Yah I've been impressed with the skills required in the ABANA National Curriculum.
      Obviously staples aren't hard but being able to make them to exact specs does ensure you've got the right skills.
