I spent 40 years in the construction trades out of choice not only because I loved it but also because I have a short dna life expectancy. So my attitude was get paid for working out instead of paying for it. I've now out lived my father and several ancestors by 10 years so far.

It's not boring at all. I renovated an old building when I was younger, and remember every tough job with fondness (like having a ceiling's insulation dropping on my head..) It's very rewarding seeing a floor appear under all the rubble. Besides, your camera work is fabulous. Beautiful actually. When you're all finished you could take up professional photography.
So agree! I love watching the rubble being cleared. There is something rewarding about it, though all I'm doing it watching from afar?! It's quite satisfying and fun to watch. I'm also one of those people that watch yard makeover people on TH-cam. I can put on a two hour segment and there is something relaxing about watching a whole overgrown yard makeover, the lawn mower and weed eater going.....I know it's weird but oh well?! 🤪🤣🤷🏻♀️

Hey. I am certainly not bored with the clearing out. It's almost as fun as doing it myself and it's very satisfying to watch the chateau emerge and the grounds cleared. When it's all done I will be able to think "I was there every step of the way and was cheering him on" so I am part of the beautifying. So looking forward to next week when that big area gets cleared. More tiles??? Exciting.
I like watch the clearing up. You’d think it would inspire me to get out and do some. There are at least four or more acres I could be working on around my dwelling. Trees to be cut, my son will do that, brush to be piled up and so on. But I think I’d rather watch another video 😂
Think of all the work you'll save yourself by clearing now. Things only grow and become harder to shift if you leave them. Pretty plantings, as seeds, after means there's no room for the brush to colonise.
@@michellebyrom6551 I live in the mountains of Montana USA. The property 50 acres belongs to my son and DIL. Once cleared they will probably want to have native bushes trees and such. The next couple months will be cut pile burn and wood chip before fire season.

I offered to help and elder in the community clearing away rubble and mess that was making her yard look bad. I would toss stuff in piles then move the piles . She told me touch it once pick it up and take it where it's going to end up. rather than lifting the same handful of stuff a number of times. I spent a little longer this way but she was right , I took the trash to a truck, the wood to a wood pile of usable or burnable, bricks to a pathway she was making of old bricks and metal to a pile that a scrapper would come for. I didn't realize how much time was spent hauling the same stuff a number of times. "touch it once" best advice for the job.

There are at least three crumbled and collapsed arches I 've seen now. One was the exterior wall. These arches are supposed to hold the weight above them and transfer the load to the rest of the walls. No arch...no transfer...and it all comes tumbling down. Fix the arches...highest priority. Brace with those screwjacks while you do the repair to each collapsed arch. Unless you are planning an insurance scam when it all falls down...well...carry on. I'm a mason and SEE the precariousness of these arches that have fallen apart.
Dan, it does my heart good to see you cleaning up as you go! Putting things in proper piles, etc. I confess I was a little worried about that before you got started…based on past experience, of course. Remember your chef trading…mise en place and clean as you go works for construction as well! The guys are going to be very surprised to see all you have accomplished when they come back.

Food for thought here, you may want to save some of the mortar debris as filler material as well when you're going to be repairing large gaps. Perhaps mix it in for the center parts of a wall repair, & only fresh mortar for outer faces. Possibly a way to help cut costs, as obviously there's going to be TONS of mortar work ahead...as well as securing openings now. As to roof solution(short term), have you thought about either a pvc or aluminum tubing, low arch frame set up that you could get greenhouse sheeting over?? Thinking in terms of light weight, easier to secure, perhaps a quicker low cost way to starting keeping weather out of the masonry??

Yeah for new wheelbarrow, but the under inflated tire on the old one made getting over the 'hump' at the top of the ramp a bit easier. I'll bet the new one is better everywhere else, though! As far as thinking the clear out is 'boring' - absolutely not! I love seeing those lovely stamped concrete floors come up and the rooms look like proper rooms again.
There has GOT to be something on the internet for a simple expandable ramp! All your energy is wasted on those friggin ramps...I am thinking it will not be the only place you will need a ramp so it will be worth the research! Looking good though! Happy weekend.

Yeah for new wheelbarrow, but the under inflated tire on the old one made getting over the 'hump' at the top of the ramp a bit easier. I'll bet the new one is better everywhere else, though! As far as thinking the clear out is 'boring' - absolutely not! I love seeing those lovely stamped concrete floors come up and the rooms look like proper rooms again.

There has GOT to be something on the internet for a simple expandable ramp! All your energy is wasted on those friggin ramps...I am thinking it will not be the only place you will need a ramp so it will be worth the research! Looking good though! Happy weekend.
