I live here now and I can't wait to do some sight seeing myself. I should mention that it was Spanish missionaries that brought Palm trees to the New World in the 18th and early 19th century too California. These trees came from Canary Islands, North Africa, the Middle East, India and Mexico. I look out my window and Date palm trees surround my pool. We live in a gated community, it's very safe, our neighbors are primarily Gay, with a sprinkling of other ethnic groups. Some Asians (like Chinese, Korean, Japanese), and me, who is a Puerto Rican. Yes, we have discovered some great restaurants, but they are off the beat and track, not on the main road. Thank you for your tour. It was appreciated.🌴

Interesting video with good info. I live in L.A. and have been going to Palm Springs since I was a kid. Love the area and relaxed vibe, and being less than two hours away by car is an added bonus. I can go down there for the day, or a few days. Here's another interesting tidbit -- the Margaritaville Resort Palm Springs, which opened in 2020, is the former Riviera Hotel. The Riviera opened in 1959 and attracted entertainment A-listers of the era, such as Bob Hope, Desi Arnaz, and even Elvis! But the best part is that they kept the original structures and layout of the legendary Riviera Hotel, just changing the décor and color scheme to fit the beachy Jimmy Buffett-inspired theme. As you make your way down the steps from the lobby to the pool area, the eye catching handles on the two doors leading out to the pool bear the numbers 5 and 9, representing 1959, the year the Riviera opened. Also, you're right about Sherman's Delicatessen. I was in Palm Springs last week and went there for lunch. Their corned beef sandwich and homemade dill pickles are the best. Happy travels!

"Cantina's"! Its a bit on the pricier side, but well WORTH it!

One MAJOR tip for those of us who enjoy going to PS and desert for reptile "hunting" (more like "searching for", NOT actual "hunting" btw)
many of us herpetoculturists eventually make our way out to "Whitewater Canyon" to search for reptiles; make certain you have your California Fishing License on you (yes, you read that correctly "Fishing License" )
California Fish and Game and BLM (Bureau of Land Management) actively conduct "sting" operations out there. They place "decoy" snakes on the roadway (rubber toy snakes, taxidermied snakes, and sometimes even live snakes too), the warden hides behind something on the side of the road, and if you stop get out your car and actually approach the "decoy", the warden will all of a sudden appear out of seemingly nowhere and and asks you what you were planning to do with the "snake" (decoy) and depending on the answer you give they will ask you for your CA Fishing License, your ID, run your name and plates, they will likely do a light spot-check of your vehicle for reptile equipment, check for any possible live native reptiles in your vehicle you captured and whether any found was legally captured, and not over the legal daily" bag" limits, and that you arent in possession of any endangered/protected species (prohibited by law from capturing/removing from the wild)
Fines are STEEP for "collecting" wild reptiles native reptiles WITHOUT a current fishing license. There is a guide that outlines all the CA Fishing regulations, it outlines all the native reptile/amphibian "collecting" regulations, daily bag limits, and legally off-limits species i.e. Desert Tortoises, Gila Monsters, etc
Whitewater Canyon is a "hotspot" for reptile enthusiasts, due to a very specific Rosy Boa subspecies native to the Whitewater area, which are immensely popular in the pet "trade".
So cover all your bases and make sure you have the appropriate licensing, and familiarity with the state's wildlife "collecting" laws. Fish and Game/BLM dont mess around - no license results in costly fines, and over-collecting or illegal possession of something such as a Desert Tortoise/s, Gila Monster, or say a San Diego Mountain Kingsnake CAN land you in state prison! Happy "Hunting"!

Haven't been to Palm Springs in over 20 years. since I moved out of state.
Is the city ordnance. Where all residential homes are 1 story only?
The San Jacinto mountains were the skyline. Even hotels were below 3 stories?
    Average rainfall? 3 inches
    Monson season: summer
Palms were only allowed to line streets.
Mid-century modern homes could not be torn down. City restrictions
Only city of Palm Springs not allow drive through at restaurants
There used to have siesta time in summers. Where restaurants and other businesses may close between 12 noon till 4 pm

@@TheTallMan50Here's the funny thing: You're talking two different geographical deserts - Death Valley is in the High Desert - with exception of DV, the rest of the High Desert/Mojave is basically cooler not as hot and a "dry" heat. PS is in the "Low Desert" where the temps are consistently just like DV, but has turned more HUMID over the years due to the effects of climate change and that the California Low Desert is the northerly region of the blisteringly hotter/humid Sonoran Desert.

    • @eylsnokissile6608

Depends on how you are defining that as - there are MANY LGTBQ+ and "Swinger" , and Nudist resorts in PS. There are also just regular general "mainstream" resorts. You could theoretically stay at ANY of them you wish, but you may possibly feel "out of place" staying at one versus another. There is no real visible way of identifying one type of resort over another, so you might Google search the area's resorts and you should be able to get an indication who the resort tends to cater to. If in doubt, call and ask first before making any reservations.

There is already a shelter across from the airport. It's fine to whine and complain, but the awesome folks of Palm Springs are more solution oriented for all of its residents.

No, there was nothing for them to mention; it sounds to me like you are imagining what you see on the news (mostly San Francisco and L.A.) that ALL of CA must therefore be that way, and that just isn't the case. PS is nothing close to being like what you are seeing on tv. It's got a few homeless people, it has its share of drugs too like everywhere else, but PS is not this dystopian hellscape like SF or LA.
PS is over 2+ hours (driving) from the border. It's NOT overrun with border jumpers. PS is not "Little Tijuana" or like Ciudad Juarez/El Paso, TX
I lived in PS and Palm Desert for 6 years, so I'm telling you all this from firsthand experience.

@@Mr.Bryan1234Ahhh, poor baby - you live in a $9m home and the homeless people a few miles away from where you live upset you?
Maybe try having a little more compassion and sympathy, because I'll tell you what - despite your wealth and your luxury home/lifestyle -mark my words: Nobody, and I mean NOBODY is "immune" to losing it all and becoming homeless.
Try this out sometime soon, while it's summertime: Commit to spending an ENTIRE day. Just one day is all. One whole day away from home, outdoors, just go wander around Palm Springs, up and down Palm Canyon Rd, through Tahquitz, up and down Indian Canyon, Sunrise Way, some of the misc. side streets, maybe go take a break for an hour at the casino in PS and cool off, then keep wandering around, intermittently finding some shady spots to sit, go wander up and down Ramon Rd a ways. Do this from maybe 8 am until 8am the next morning, then go home.
You probably wouldn't make it that long. Im not entirely sure even I could. But you WILL BE so f*cking over-heated, over-exhausted, sunburned, dehydrated, probably sore too from all the walking.
Well, THIS is precisely what those poor souls who are homeless out there are forced to have to endure 24/7. Many of them DIE from extreme heat exposure. But please go try it out for just a day, get an idea of what it's like - you'll probably change your tune real quick!
