    With all the corrosion on the gears chain and drive disk.I don't understand why you didn't clean that up and lubricate it before trying to run it. I also don't understand why you didn't clean the carb Thoroughly the first time. So it appears to me like you are doing more work than you need to.Had you just done it right the first time. Your diagnosis skills and testing were very good.

      I definitely would have if it didn't free up on the "journey" into the shop. The carb was a cheap Chinese unit installed brand new by the previous owner and had never actually run the machine which is why it was so clean inside. The surging issue is extremely common with cheap carbs and believe it or not if I was to disassemble the carb, clean, then rebuild it, the gaskets required to rebuild this cheap-unknown-brand carb properly are more expensive than if I just replaced the carb with one I have on the shelf. So considering that this machine needs lots more love it was more practical in my opinion to drill out the jet (which almost always needs to be done) and get this carb running well than to waste more time and resources on a project machine 👍🏻

    She definitely needed a bit of maintenance. That oil looked like muddy water. Wow! It sure does sound good now. Well done! 👍

    It's almost that time of year. Hopefully someone will buy it and put it to good use. Nice job putting it back into service!

    The last time that one was run must have been in the Spring and a really wet snow. They were trying to blow slush and got down to mud. That’s maybe what was stuck in the gears. Would also explain all the belly rust.

      The stuff that was in the gears was like a hard dirt but also packed with Hair, very strange

      That’s some weird sh*t! I can’t even begin to guess. 😉

    I’m having trouble deciding whether to actually fix up any snowblowers this year, given the lack of snow in recent years. Of course then we’ll have The Blizzard of the Century. Oh, ok - maybe I’ll fix up a couple of the freebies that look almost new already. 😉❄️

      I always try to fix them up and get them gone by early to mid December, otherwise it seems like it's a struggle to get top dollar

      Were you actually able to sell any the past two years? I’m so new at this I don’t have anything to go on to figure out what will move in terms of snowblowers and generators.
      I restored a generator to like new condition and it sits on FBMP doing nothing! We didn’t get any hurricanes so now I’m waiting for a blizzard and power outage to see if it’ll sell. Damn you, Mother Nature! 😁

    I wondered if the surging was actually being caused by varnish or up in the emulsion tube. Possible?

    • @hester781
      @hester781  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Anything is possible, but this carb was not that old and I personally don't think it ever ran the machine. My guess is he lost spark and then tried throwing parts at it to get it going and then gave up on it

    Why would someone pay that much for a new snowblower and then leave it outside? I’ll never understand that level of stupidity. I understand folks can’t be bothered to maintain and grease things but leaving it outside is ridiculous.
    Think most Ariens come with 2 auger belts, especially the track drive units.
