Yazoo-Kees Zero Turn Will It Run? / Deck Repair/ Spindle Replacement
I think the owner made a smart business decision to get rid of the unit. It won't be long Before the spindles will need to be rebuilt Because of the start of bearing noise. But, whoever buys the unit will at least be able to get a few more years out of it. I can envision that there are multitude of small problems coming up soon, such as the headlights are fogged over, The bearings on the casters, Wheel bearings, Then whatever else fails including switches. It truly is zero sum game at this severe tractor age and completely understandable that the owner would get rid of the machine. But, if one is a mechanic or mechanically inclined And enjoys working on small tractors, Then this machine is a good deal. Probably not for the average consumer, however. Thanks Hester for an enjoyable video and diagnosing all the problems correctly along with good and solid repairs.
Pretty soon there'll be YT small engine guys taking Italian lessons to communicate with customers. Who knew? I should be OK though - grandfather from Abruzzi, grandmother from Napoli, plus I eat pasta at least once a week. From scratch I've made pizza, ravioli, several different pasta's, scratch Bolognese - you name it!
I saw a quick fix one summer day on the road one model t towing another with a big rubber tire tube tied between there bumpers yankee engineintgenuity
I wonder who made that mower for J.D.? Looked like it said Snapper on the blade adapter. Glad you got it running for the guy. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thanks for all the entertaining and helpful videos!
I absolutely saw Snapper! I kept yelling at JD that it was a Snapper Adapter (don't laugh) but he couldn't hear me, which is kind of odd since we only live an hour apart and I yell pretty loud. ;-)
So how did you use that impact wrench to remove the blade if all your power tools are somewhere else? 😂😂😂
I fixed my Cherokee rear access shocks with a free pair of locking pliers I found in the road.
Well done Hester! I do my flywheels the same way. Im super jealous of the lift too!
As i recall, nearly every mower i rescued from the curb had a sheared flywheel key. Made me feel like a real mechanic to throw in a new key, and the thing would often fire right up. I agree with your decision not to beat on the crankshaft of somebody else's mower. Might work, might not... and might break something! Thanks for the video!
If key way is bad I put dial on crack shaft, then remove and put in alinement tool to fix
This video was fine, JD! Who doesn’t love a sheared flywheel key replacement, after all! 😉 Another cause for kickback is lack of a blade on a mower. Ask me how I know! Turns out the blade acts as part of the inertia on startup instead of a heavier flywheel on some machines. Who knew?! I’m guessing it adds to the initial compression on the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber.
That's right, Most push mowers rely on the blade's weight to provide adequate flywheel inertia 👍🏻
How come you cut that twine away? That’s what was supposed to hold the blade from spinning on the adapter! 😁
😂👍🏻
Quick and Dirty getting me outa hot water? Oh, yeah, I got one for ya! Copper hot water pipe in the laundry room sprouts a leak. Piece of scrap rubber roofing membrane and three screw hose clamps. Fixed until it ain’t! (Eventually, hopefully, I’ll get around to soldering in some new pipe in all three places, although one’s been in place a couple of years and no sign of giving up. It’s all about priorities.) 😁🔧👍
😂👍🏻 like the farmers say, good enough is perfect!
I was just re-watching your Titanium 125 mod video when this one posted. Bought one myself about a month ago and wanted to mod mine like my hero Hester 😁
That's been my favorite mod! Highly recommended 👍🏻
A DIY bent crankshaft analyzer! I have one of those! Why didn’t anyone ever tell me that’s what it’s for? Frickin brilliant! 🔧👍
If it's stupid but it works right?! Lol
Doesn’t matter if it won’t start unless you’ve figured out how to blow snow with a lawn mower! 😂 Hey, wait! If they can mulch, bag or blow maybe we can make one that also deals with snow!!! I am so brilliant! 😂❄️❄️❄️
😂
I just purchased this exact welder a month ago black Friday sale, not even had the chance to use it yet. I don't have the room to keep it outside so will be keeping it inside taking it in and out all the time, so your idea is nothing short of genius! Did you get your handle and swivel locks locally or order them? I checked my local Lowes here in NC and they have nothing that appeals to me at all. Thanks! Edit: Nevermind the question, I just read the thread where you gave someone the link for the latches. Thanks again.
No worries! Let me know how you make out! 👍🏻
I had a super 029 Stihl chain saw. The bar bolts were all the time coming loose. Or not holding the bar right. I finally last year tightened them very firmly stopping bar movement. This spring when I loosened them they both striped out. I have yet to heli-coil them.
Ugh, that's frustrating
What else can you do to clean the jets if you don’t have what you used?
There are a few different ways. Some people have used one individual bristle from a wire brush. I've also had luck pulling the plastic off of a bread tie and using that wire to clean out small orifices. Another thing you can buy are torch tip cleaners 👍🏻
Great video. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏻
I love the video! So glad that you put all of the part numbers in here. I came across this because I am currently repairing a yazoo/kees myself and this was a huge help. Is there any way you can get a model/part number for that bagger of his? I found some Husqvarna ones online, but I was skeptical if they actually fit(I know they are essentially the same mower) and I can't find any yazoo/kees ones. That would be a big help. I appreciate it. P.S. - Subscribing to your channel now.
So it's just a generic AYP/ craftsman bagger! I'll try to get a hold of him to see if it has a part number but I know it's put away for the winter.
@hester781 thank you so much. I was just nervous, that deck has an odd cut-out for the chute. I didn't know if the "universal" ones would actually fit it.
@@markmetro4861no worries! But what I've found is the part number only represents the main bagger portion. The deck adapter is different deck to deck and doesn't have a number on it
This video does not showing replacing drive disc
Here's a link to the part I replaced in this video. Please carefully read the description. And in case the link doesn't work the part number is 32483 if you're interested in looking up what it's called. Not sure if you're trying to play semantics here but the drive disc can also be referred to as the friction disc. However if you're talking about the big aluminum disc which contacts the black rubber drive disc that would be called the "drive plate" hope this cleared up any and all confusion you have 👍🏻 a.co/d/hiQR1SD
@@hester781 I don't think it's semantics more so the fact that you go from unassembled at 9:45 to the friction wheel fully installed at 9:48 with no depiction of how that happened for you, simply offering the commentary that it involved a few choice words. Not really that helpful for a nearly 14 minute video to skip the main subject of the title.
@@masons9541 are you saying that a 3 minute video of removing and tightening 3 bolts holding the wheel on would be more helpful? I can understand and agree with you that it definitely would have been more useful for me to have shown the entire process. However you can't deny there was definitely a lot more involved in the repair than just those bolts. I left out the easiest part in my opinion. In any case I'll try to be more considerate /thorough with future repair videos 👍🏻
@@hester781 hey bud you said yourself in those few seconds that you reached the end result after many curse words, if it is that frustrating to someone of your professional caliber do you think it as appropriate to dismiss it as simply tightening a few bolts? It also is factually incorrect as you showed a disassembled friction drive and showed a completely assembled one seconds later, that is more than a mere tightening of 3 bolts. You can make whatever excuses you want but the fact remains that you made a 14 minute video that didn't provide essential information for the topic you claimed to solve.
@@masons9541 Installation is reverse of removal. Very common theme across thousands of repair videos. And based off other comments and views almost nine thousand other people understood what was happening here. As I said, I have no problem agreeing that it would have been nice for me to film the installation of the disk but at the end of the day if you get that far into what is a very straightforward repair and you can't figure out how to put it back together than it's most likely a job beyond your current skillset and should be brought to a repair shop 👍🏻
I did the “poor man’s power steering” on a JD D100. Didn’t notice a difference. YMMV.
Good to know! 👍🏻
Super informative video! I just worked on a new to me 28" Deluxe and I saw a few items in your video that I need to go back and redo. Extremely helpful! Neat trick with the vent tube too.
Thank you! I don't know what they make these vent tubes out of but it seems like no matter what I do they just don't last more than a year or two
@@hester781 Also had the dreaded Torch plug come with it and it failed. Never had a plug actually fail until now. Those will be going straight to the trash barrel next time I come across one!

Why not use propane for heat, much more efficient than electric
I used propane for a while, it worked ok but condensation was a real problem
Wow I loved this video. Subscribed 👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏻
Way to go, Hester! Another beautiful machine rescued, and two mice released back into the wild. Excellent show. Very informative. 😀👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I bet the mice weren't too happy about it though 😂👍🏻
Another excellent video. You do a really nice job. Thanks Hester!
Thanks Goose! 👍🏻
Shame on you, JD, displacing Mr. and Mrs. Fluffy, especially after all the hard work they put in on that multi-level apartment! 😁
What was I supposed to do? I mean, they were nine months behind on rent!!! 😂👍🏻
@@hester781 😂😂😂👍
Instructional, well presented. Very enjoyable video.
Thank you! 👍🏻
Great job on explaining everything that you were doing and why you were doing it.
Thank you! I do my best! 👍🏻
Great videos on the Ariens, especially the differential. Wish I had somethin like them a few years ago when we got the Deluxe 28 SHO. I mean there was nothin out there. Between the service manual and messin around, finally got it somewhat figured. This would have been alot easier. Thanks and subscribed.
Thank you very much! I noticed some of the videos on these were hit and miss as far as coverage so I tried to make a nice one stop type video
I recently put in a Chinese diesel heater in my shop. Great cheap heat. For around $100 and a fuel sipper, you can not go wrong.
I've seen those a lot recently! I think I might have to try that
@ I have 2 units, I made some rookie mistakes with it at first but after watching plenty of TH-cam videos and joining a Facebook group for the heaters, it’s really easy now with great heat. You can use the off road diesel to run them for even cheaper (tax free diesel). Word of advice, only use diesel. Some try cooking oil and used motor oil, it clogs them up eventually. Straight diesel is just easier. It’s a game changer for heat, I expect people to be heating their houses with these soon. I’d buy some now before tariffs hit on stuff out of the country.
@@hester781 For those of us who produce used oil on a regular basis, we need something that burns that at the same price point!
Hello brother Hester 😊 I've never seen that switch come off there so easily 😅 you got lucky on that one buddy 👍 thanks for sharing....those mice sure got out fast 😂😂😂
Heartless I am, Eviction right before Christmas! 😂👍🏻
Nice work Hester, glad you evicted those 2 mice squatters. 👍🤣

Another machine in remarkably good condition! Now, it is like new! Great job, and thanks for the video!
Thank you! 👍🏻
It doesn’t look very old or used very much, should sale easily 😊
Already gone! Lol 👍🏻
I like it 👍🏼
The camera in your way makes for great video much appreciated. Very Mustie 1 like !! I've had my experience as well with Torch plugs they will burn you LOL. Great job as usual... 👍
I feel like the only way you guys can see and understand what I'm doing is if you have the best view, I can work with that 😂👍🏻 Thank you!
Good vid!! And yes I kept my comments to myself 😂
😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻 thank you!

Nicely done, great job, liked it a bunch!!! 🙂👏
Thank you! 👍🏻
Excellent! Tires on that beast are incredible! 😃👍
Thanks Scout! 👍🏻
Hester, Get channel! How about some instruction for leaf blowers?
I do have a few older videos on my channel on leaf blowers. I just haven't had many come in for repair lately
No ethanol fuel would stop a lot of problems!
Agreed 100% 👍🏻
The most expensive form of energy You can use to heat any space is electric. Hester, do yourself a favor and get yourself a direct vent pellet stove. It will be more work to get the pellets and load up the pellet stove as well as clean it every few weeks, But I guarantee with the price of electricity in new england the new pellet stove will pay for itself in less than thirty months. And you will still be using this shop after that time! Don't believe me, Take a look at hoe donnie boy 73 heat his shop in Canada. And by the way, I am giving you free advice from an energy consultant with decades of proven experience and several advanced degrees. It's my way of giving back to you doing the christmas season because I enjoy your videos. Good luck with whatever you decide, because you are paying the energy bill not me!!!
Thank you for the advice! I couldn't agree more with you about electric heat being the most expensive I could have done, my problem is space is a hot commodity in my shop so I went with what gave me the most floor space. I do have a kerosene torpedo heater which I will run for 10 or 15 minutes just to take the chill out and then carry on from there with the electric heater. Still not very efficient but I'm only using it for 3 or 4 days a month. The new garage I'm building is using a 45000 btu natural gas modine hot dawg which should definitely be cheaper lol
@hester781 You will definitely solve your problem by burning natural gas to heat your new shop. Natural gas. Is the cheapest form of energy to use for heating, Better than a pellet stove. Glad to see you are getting better facilities because you really need the room!
Great video. I'm excited to see what else you have. I was a CNC, lathe, mill, machine shop mechanic basically for 15 years. Never got too deep into engines so I love this
Thank you! Welcome to the channel!👍🏻
Fantastic video. Don't own a Ariens yet but my neighbor has a 2 yo Ariens and he was super appreciative when I showed him how to lube the axle and hubs. Already rusted and tough to get off. Thanks for the video.
It's crazy how quick things can rust, especially here in New England
Why would someone pay that much for a new snowblower and then leave it outside? I’ll never understand that level of stupidity. I understand folks can’t be bothered to maintain and grease things but leaving it outside is ridiculous. Think most Ariens come with 2 auger belts, especially the track drive units.
You think I'd be used to it by now but it still baffles my mind
