In 1975, when I was in Hong Kong, the top of "The Peak" was just the end of an old green, painted, metal, mechanical structure of the funicular carriage cables that took you to the top, set amongst tropical plants. It passed some mansion studded up the hill. The view was amazing, over looking the New Territories, the City and the junks below. I was amazed at how the traditional blended with the new in every direction. I always said that if you lived and explored Hong Kong for the rest of your life, you wold never unravel it. But Now.... WOW!! Thank you guys, this was awsome and the photography , amazing. Cheers, Muffy from Oz.
Whenever we eat at Michelin places, the comments are full of people tripping over themselves telling us how there's a hidden gem right across the street, and oh the Michelin-recognized place is so overrated blah blah blah. People have a thing for tearing down Michelin restaurants, and it's not worth the hassle eating at them on video 😂
@@OnePackWanderers oh yah you couldn't have filmed in this particular one, it's a hole in the wall with limited seating but it is only $5 aussie dollars. roasted pork and goose. delicious. something are more enjoyable when you put the cameras down, if only madonna learnt that lesson earlier in life ;)
I love the way your cinematography makes me feel immersed in any environment you arrive at. I think Hong Kong and your cameras were a match made in heaven. Can't wait to find out what's next :)
I love Hong Kong, been there about eight times over the years. I have always travelled during the cooler months between December and March. Away from the hustle and bustle, Hong Kong has many different islands and country parks to explore. I also recommend a trip to the former Portuguese colony of Macau. Other cities to visit such as Shenzen, Guangzhou and Zhuhai are very close to Hong Kong as well. Cheers from Australia.
As an Aussie who's been living in HK for around 15 years, was great to see you drop by! You did really well to see a bunch of stuff in a short time and your cinematography as always is top notch! When you decide to drop back in please let me know and I can take you to some great places only someone who lives here knows! Thanks for another great video!
I'm digging the audio, guys, to the point I don't dare watch on my phone anymore. It's an event in the living room using quality speakers to immerse in the vibes. As someone who knows nothing about editing, know that I appreciate the effort.
Hong Kong will always be in my heart and soul. I was there from 1976 and 1979 and the character and charm, the mix of old and new, the British and the Cantonese Chinese took my breath away, not to mention the extraordinary scenery and how one could find pockets of extraordinary botannical lushness and beauty across Hong Kong and of course the New Territories. All this amongst a density and buzz of people and vibrancy that I'll never forget. Delighted to see you do the same walk up to the Peak that I have done and stay for sunset. Absolutely, HK has a blend of luxury and grunge that gives it a character that keeps one mesmerised. I was so sad to go back tho nearly twenty years ago and see so much gone, so much history lost in the destruction of the old for the new ... progress. One will never be able to explain how wonderous Hong Kong was and the changes are quite remarkable both detracting and adding I guess. One of the things that have gone is the fantastic landing at Kai Tak airport into a strip into the harbour, the tight turn in to land and how surreal to do it at night, embraced by millions of Hong Kong lights, and feeling as one got closer as that you could have a conversation with people in the buildings nearby. It was so close. I want to go back again though and explore and revisit the past and the present. Love it.
Great vlog! Hong Kong is stunning and the food is great. The contrast between the glamour and designer malls and the tiny apartments and street markets is wild. Next time you need to get out of the city and go to Stanley and some of the other islands.
I’m an Australian who partially ‘grew up’ in up in Japan (4 years) and as an adult lived in HK for several years (and of course have holidayed in Fiji). So it’s like you designed your last few videos specifically for me!
Finally you're in HK! Good that you didn't go on the Happy Valley Tram! Tram is my favourite mode of transportation while in HK, it slow down the pace and great for people watching.
Visited Hong Kong summer of 2012, I don’t remember it being THAT busy and crowded but it’s such an incredible city! I can’t wait to go back! Tia, you did so well!!!!
Only a couple of videos ago, you were virtually castaways on the Yasawa islands. Oodnadatta Track a few weeks before. And now this! Couldn't have done any bigger contrast. HK looks amazing.
7:25 that "I don't know" with the tram made me think of my trip to Japan. Having to quickly work out whether it's the one you need and then hope for the best.
Everywhere you go, you made the place romantic. Seeing you two enjoying yourselves, being good to not just each other but also your surroundings, your appreciation for small things, etc, etc makes me happy. Keep on traveling far and wide! Travel makes us a better person. I think:)
If you're looking for Hong Kong beer, the San Miguel you find in any 711/Circle K is actually brewed locally. San Miguel's been brewing beer in Hong Kong since the late 19th century.
Hello you two :) !, Great video! I think...I've watched it 5 times or so now...I like so many things about your video. First of all, that you work as a couple. This is probably also because you both have a relaxed, cheerful disposition :). You both have a good sense of how to capture a city, how to talk about a place, how to meet people. You are super open and warm on the video. This is a basic requirement why you “sell” the video so well. You also show Hong Kong diverse and tempting. We were just in Hong Kong for one week. We were with a group of 11 family members. It was the first time for some, but definitely not the last. We love the vibe. We'll definitely be back.
@OnePackWanderers it was my 70th birthday. I have cousins in America, Holland and k UK. As well as my siblings from Melbourne. I wanted somewhere central in the world to celebrate. Only one cousin from America came, but my brother and sister came with their partners as well as a very dear friend. My son and his wife came too. We did The Peak, The Big Buddha, the long escalator. Also, we discovered the Walled garden in west Kowloon and took a ferry to Cheung Chau Island. So much to see and do.
Love it guys! ❤ That night shot from The Peak with the skyline in the background, makes me think back to all the TVB series (HK channel) from childhood
This is the earliest I've been! I just wanted to say that you've really been improving your production quality over the last few videos. I've always wondered how you learned color grading since the colors are so vivid and it makes me feel like I'm with you!!!
As busy and crowded as Hong Kong is, your video style brings a nostalgic, calm, charm to it! That food made me so hungry, even though I’ve not long eaten!
I went to HK in 1989 and I loved it. I thought it was so modern but Kowloon was also traditional with the lanes and eateries. There was neon everywhere as it was the place to go for cheap electronics. I went back in 2019 and I thought it had lost all of its vibe. The island still retained some of its charm but Kowloon was just a giant apartment complex and all the old areas were gone. If I was to ever go back I'd stick to the island.
@@OnePackWanderersmy impression is more a comparison from my first visit to my 30 year gap to the second one. The island seemed pretty much the same, Ultra modern and busy with hints of the past but the mainland was unrecognisable. It seemed more Chinese when the British ran it than it does now. I had so much fun bartering back in the day for everything. The neon was like nothing I'd ever seen. Great memories.

Welcome to HK ! Born and raised here but had lived abroad for almost 30 years in many major cities in the world. Finally moved back for good 2 years ago. My experience as an expatriate has made me love and appreciate this beautiful, diversified, compact, clean, highly efficient, vibrant … and most importantly safe city even more than before. Glad that you have enjoyed your time here. Wishing you the best and safe travels ! ❤
A Sunday treat having you guys drop a vid!! But… HK has deteriorated so much over the years since my first visit 40 odd years ago. The food, the look appears a feast but their proud, unique vibe is gone. Last visit 2019 the best thing we did was head for Vietnam where the food was fresh and unprocessed. Still … it was your vlog so required viewing. ❤️❤️
I always appreciate your work and while I enjoyed this, I must say I found the music selection and volume jarring. Best wishes and looking forward to seeing your next adventures
❤❤❤ yay for Hong Kong 🎉 Next trip you have to visit the islands and do some hiking. Most people miss the natural beauty of HK. Also, have some local HK beer next time, Young Masters and Yau are good, but there's lots to try.
Tia, The hot milk tea you ordered don't have any condensed milk inside, that's why you need to put sugar to make it tastes sweet. If you want hot milk tea/coffee/yuen yeung 鴛鴦(coffee & tea together) with condensed milk, you gotta tell the waiter when you order. Locals will order in Cantonese as 茶走(cha jau) /啡走(fe jau) /鴦走(yeung jau) 。
My one and only trip to HK was 40 years ago and it’s different but on so many levels still the same. First thing we did was hop on the double decker tram and stay on it for a round trip, great day out seeing so much many don’t bother with. We had friends living there so got to see the ordinary life. You took a deep dive and it was great to see. Great vlog…again!❤
Oh wow! That was amazing! We were there in 1988 for our honeymoon. It was great to see the old parts and some new. We caught the old cable car to The Peak. What a view hey? I can see another postcard in the making. 😍 Thanks guys. P.S Tia, you were super brave in all those crowds.
Honkers has so many little familiar touches to it. Like the green ferries and the harbour and the double decker trams. You certainly wouldn't go broke as an air conditioner repairman.
@katrinawong8273 maybe there are lessons for Australian urban planners. I used to hate his rise living but if we are to preserve natural areas maybe Australian will have to get use to building up, instead of out.
Yep Cheveyo, you're right it's such a metropolis, you can feast off the vibes . Billy and Finneas Eilish think Australian pedestrian light sounds are cool, but HKGs slow crescendoing to frantic version are the perfect sister act to that city. I can't get enough of that place.
That was very impressive that you walked up 'The Peak'. I took the old tram(railway) back in the early 1980's, and I was pooped doing that !!!! Live long and prosper.
We went to HK over 30 years ago, when it was still under British rule..... Definitely a culture shock if we were to go back now. Thanks again for taking us with you and showing us HK today.
Locals mostly will add salt & pepper into the chicken soup macaroni with ham to enrich the taste. If you like spicy food, add few drops of chilli oil in it.
There's my old friends again! Great video, I really have to check out Japan. Nice haircut mate, last year mine was halfway to my waist after 5 years. I also got out the clippers. Looks good mate, much sharper.
Things you missed trying while in HK: - YingYuan Cha (literally Ying Yang Tea) it's half milk coffee half milk tea, even though they are in the same cup and stirred, they somehow don't mix, so it's such a weird sensation when you drink it, very fun - Boiled coke - This is literally CocaCola servers brought to the temperature of hot tea by sitting it in a bath of boiling water so it doesn't loose it's carbonation, there are 2 variants, the lemon version which has sliced lemon in it and my favourite the ginseng and ginger version. - drunk pigeon, pigeon cooked in alcohol (brandy i think) it's delicious, the pigeon meat is about halfway between chicken and duck, not as oily and rich as duck and not as dry as chicken I was in HK a bit over 20 years ago for 9 month for work, it looks like nothing's changed, even the taxi's are the same old Toyota crown's and all the buildings look the same, the area's you said looked new, looked the same over 20 years ago, I remember being impressed by that Luis Vuitton building back then. I'd heard from friends about HK's decline since Carrie Lam came to power, now I really see what they mean.I guess HK's peak really was around 1997
Welcome to Hong Kong. Such a tiny room. Absolutely must ride 1 of these this double decker buses. Absolutely love seeing this colorful monster Apt building. I have always believed the best way to explore a city, specially a new 1 is walking. Outstanding views of the city. Cheers with the beers. I have heard amazing things about this Temple St Night Market. Yum Yum all the grilled meats on sticks. Absolutely Loved Every Second // Absolutely Outstanding From Start To Finish. Patiently Waiting DAY 2
Glad you had a great time there! I visit once/twice a year. tbh it's LESS crowded now than it used to be pre-pandemic! The juxtaposition of the old and new always gets me every time - massive glass skyscrapers right next to dilapidated old buildings. Part of HK's unique charm!
Greetings from Perth. Your hotel room reminds me of the one my wife and I stayed in when we were there in 2018. Our room was tiny. There was a double bed and a strip of floor about 12-14 inches wide along two sides of the bed. The “bathroom” was like yours, with a sink, toilet and shower right on top of each other. Our hotel was right on Argyle Street in Kowloon.
Love HK been there 8 times (was better before '97). Still can't take to the milk tea though. Check out Sai Kung (great seafood) and some of the islands, very interesting. To get to Sai kung take MTR to Diamond Hill then No. 92 bus. Also see the Chi Lin Nunnery while you're there. Have a great time. In 2018 we got stuck on the tram to Western Markets during a protest march for an hour. Trams are the best though. On your way to monster building you passed our last hotel The Metropark which is now housing the Chinese Secret Police. LOL Quick tip just call Tsim Sha Tsui "TST" saves time. Holy cow Temple St is deserted compared to last time. Where are all the souvenir stalls, it used to be shoulder to shoulder down a narrow aisle in the middle.
Haha honestly that’s really tough. Osaka, Perth, Paris, Athens, Hanoi, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Brisbane - love all of ‘em, and it’s really difficult to pick a top three (even though that’s what I said in the video).
Go to Bank of China building, one of the floors has a viewing platform. At night go to the Peninsula Hotel restaurant at top floor. Just have a drink in the bar. It's an excuse to visit the gents toilets, the walls are glass, you can view HK Harbour at night while doing your business lol. Agree on the transport system, amazing, the card can also be used at vending machines.
As exciting as it may be, the wealth gap in this place is depressing. I used to work for this huge financial investment company and was there to hire a local staff. The pay there was half of what we had to pay back in the U.S. and finance is already considered high paying job in that city. What's worse is that as the entry-level pay increased over the years in the U.S., the same cannot be said in HK. That is to say, it's now less than half of U.S. entry-level pay while the cost of living increased faster than the U.S. The only way to get ahead for the laypersons in HK is from owning real estate. So much of the people's wealth are trapped in that concrete jungle.
It’s interesting how this has happened - to varying degrees - in almost all of the world’s famous, great cities. Feels like living in places like New York, Paris, Sydney, etc. is impossible on an entry level income.
Nice video thanks for the warning, two days would be the limit of my stop over I'd be claustrophobic amongst all those buildings & people as I consider Sydney overcrowded.
It just shows you how much freedom Hong Kong experienced during the 156 years it was a British territory. None of the residents wanted to leave the island.
I love HK , has a different lively feel to it and I think it's unique mixed history is part of it. I always look forward to stopover. Hopefully it will retain its vibrancy under the new administration!
Welcome to HK ! You guys are very few that would hike up to the top of the hill instead of taking the expensive Peak tram ha ! If you really like hiking and see the wild I would suggest next time you come to visit the eastern part of the island and hike up, better still to go across the harbour to the ‘New Territory’, Sai Kung, and also visit Tai O in Lautau island, Cheung Chau and Lamma island, there you will see more of HK out of the urban.
Hehe! You two! They speak, read and understand English in Hong Kong. The guy next to Tia understood her when she said it feels like a Disneyland ride! 😊

Dense living is an understatement but it’s always interesting to me too. You guys are strong I took the tram ^^ Anyway I look forward to seeing the next video take care both of you 🙏🏻 😊
So well done... as always!
Very interesting and fun Music choices, as well!
Where are we going next? 😄
My daughter and her family stop off here on their travels from Australia, and enjoy it...my daughter loves it too...Personally, Ive seen enough on vlogs to not ever want to go.....good to see you guys once again in another country....enjoy!😃
The cutest travelling couple on TH-cam. Love you both, following your adventures from Sydney, aus xx
Come back soon
I always appreciate your work and while I enjoyed this, I must say I found the music selection and volume jarring.
Best wishes and looking forward to seeing your next adventures
When you said you were walking to the top of The Peak I lol'd. Can't believe you did that!
Wait to you see the grannies charging up Old Peak Road every morning!
Thank you for spectacular video about Hong Kong, I wish some day I have a chance to visit this amazing city. Thanks again.
❤❤❤ yay for Hong Kong 🎉 Next trip you have to visit the islands and do some hiking. Most people miss the natural beauty of HK. Also, have some local HK beer next time, Young Masters and Yau are good, but there's lots to try.
Lived in Hong Kong for 3.5 years. What a magical place!
AGREE! ❤
Tia,
The hot milk tea you ordered don't have any condensed milk inside, that's why you need to put sugar to make it tastes sweet.
Hong kong feels too big and crowded for me but, as usual, you guys captured a charm in it that surprised me. Where to next 🤔?
Back to the Land of Smiles for a bit to get our fitness back up to par. Then, who knows? 😅
WOW! what a great day in a fascinating city. Love from Melbourne.
That was very impressive that you walked up 'The Peak'. I took the old tram(railway) back in the early 1980's, and I was pooped doing that !!!! Live long and prosper.
Looks Rather mystical, the size of the apartment buildings is mind blowing 😮
We went to HK over 30 years ago, when it was still under British rule..... Definitely a culture shock if we were to go back now. Thanks again for taking us with you and showing us HK today.
Great video. Excited for whatever is coming next :)
Locals mostly will add salt & pepper into the chicken soup macaroni with ham to enrich the taste. If you like spicy food, add few drops of chilli oil in it.
The congee in HK is unmatched anywhere else.
Love traveling with you both, look forward to seeing what and where you go next.. 🇦🇺
There's my old friends again! Great video, I really have to check out Japan. Nice haircut mate, last year mine was halfway to my waist after 5 years. I also got out the clippers. Looks good mate, much sharper.
Things you missed trying while in HK:
- YingYuan Cha (literally Ying Yang Tea) it's half milk coffee half milk tea, even though they are in the same cup and stirred, they somehow don't mix, so it's such a weird sensation when you drink it, very fun
- Boiled coke - This is literally CocaCola servers brought to the temperature of hot tea by sitting it in a bath of boiling water so it doesn't loose it's carbonation, there are 2 variants, the lemon version which has sliced lemon in it and my favourite the ginseng and ginger version.
- drunk pigeon, pigeon cooked in alcohol (brandy i think) it's delicious, the pigeon meat is about halfway between chicken and duck, not as oily and rich as duck and not as dry as chicken
I was in HK a bit over 20 years ago for 9 month for work, it looks like nothing's changed, even the taxi's are the same old Toyota crown's and all the buildings look the same, the area's you said looked new, looked the same over 20 years ago, I remember being impressed by that Luis Vuitton building back then. I'd heard from friends about HK's decline since Carrie Lam came to power, now I really see what they mean.I guess HK's peak really was around 1997
Excellent video as always, I love / hate Hong Kong in almost equal measures. Love conquers though ,enjoy your ongoing travels, stay safe.
Haha I like your description!
Another great video thank you for sharing
Hong Kong skyline appreciation + algorithm comment ❤
Amazing video and place!
At 8:00 your video had a Lost in Translation feel! Love the music choice. 😊
What a beautiful young lady .. oh the video was great .. Used to live in Honkers from 1985-1989 Loved it .
You both are clearly enjoying your lay-over in Honkers.
18:15 Why did this bother me more than I think it should. 😞 Cheveyo, never let go.
I really love the way you filmed this video! It fits the aesthetic of the city and makes me want to visit so I guess mission accomplished haha 😄
nooooooo just a layover?!?! I would LOVE to see you guys spend some time here eventually! I've never been, but this made me want to visit!
Really great to see you guys again. I couldn't cope with Hong Kong. I'll stick with my little country town, that I love. ❤😊😮
Only transit in HK and dynamic duo brightened the place with their presence
One of your top 3 favorite cities?! What are the other top cities?
@@OnePackWanderers It would be worth watching the video that @drewbinsky dropped today about HK coffin homes
Thanks😊
Nice video thanks for the warning, two days would be the limit of my stop over I'd be claustrophobic amongst all those buildings & people as I consider Sydney overcrowded.
Loved the view from the ferry at night.
Cheapest scenic cruise we’ve ever been on 😂
We actually have more countrysides and beaches than you knew.
And the best view should be Victoria Garden above the Peak
It just shows you how much freedom Hong Kong experienced during the 156 years it was a British territory. None of the residents wanted to leave the island.
New levels of awesome unlocked!
Watch the light show across Hong Kong from the south tip of Kowloon--really cool.
Great to watch your adventures in HK, but Australia is a little worse off for not having you here - happy trails to you both.
I love HK , has a different lively feel to it and I think it's unique mixed history is part of it. I always look forward to stopover. Hopefully it will retain its vibrancy under the new administration!
Perfect video for my 5d trip in feb!
We know 😂 Guy probably agreed with the Disney comment 😂
Last time I was in HK I also stayed in a guest house in the Mansions in TST. Great home base to explore the city.
