I play all my games on performance mode , I wish 4k60 was a common occurrence but it’s more commonly a choice , usually deactivating ray tracing to maintain 60. It’s disappointing
*I thought about buying a Series X/PS5 but decided to get a Steamdeck (maybe a bit cringe but its technically my second PC, not counting my laptop).. for me this gen and last gen just aren't for me in terms of consoles and games.*
The showings on these modern consoles is honestly pathetic. If it weren't for the switch this would likely be the worst generation of gaming almost ever (ignoring gens 1 and 2)
I think we are seeing a strange phenomenon where as the tec gets better the games are getting worse. I think it is because there are fewer limitations put on the developers. A big reason why RE4, Wind Waker, Silent Hill, and Mario 64 was because they had to work under very strict limitations. That causes the game makers to focus on what makes the game good. A telling sign of this is if you look at the major releases in recent years they are all remakes of 20-year-old games.
That's an excellent point. I was actually thinking the same thing about movies lately. I've been watching a bunch of old shows and I've been super impressed with how cool they are even with their limitations. A lot of movies nowadays have all the tools in the world but CGI can be incredibly lazy. I would love to see studios get pushed to their limits like they used to. Not very likely, but I'm hopeful.

But you now have upscaling and dynamic resolution to do 60 fps. But it can be as low as 720p/40 fps suring heavy moments. They always exaggerate what the capabilities of the new consoles will be. It's been this same old song and dance since the Panasonic 3DO.
That's definitely true. They touted 8k capabilities and now the PS5 box doesn't say it has those anymore. It's so annoying that this seems to happen every generation.
There's no point in buying console nowadays because pc gets all console games after some time and you can also mod your game or use community patches when devs dont care enough. As I think if you want exclusives, you better get PS2/3. They still have games that were never released on other platforms (like Demon's Souls, Killzone, Burnout, Darkness 1, Battlefield BC1, Armored Cores and etc).
It does seem like everything is going to PC nowadays. For me, I've always bought consoles because they're cheaper than investing in a beefy PC, but lately I'm becoming more and more tempted.
I bought a Steam Deck over a PS5 and that is completely my experience. I had a Switch and got tired of waiting for Zelda Twilight Princess and Wind Waker ports, so I sold my Switch and bought the Steam Deck. Now I have both those games installed on it and installed a 4k textures mod for TP.

Right?? I don't think I've ever liked Resolution over Performance. It's baffling that they're just squandering the hardware.

That's probably a good call. PC games and a slew of emulation? Fantastic value. I plan on getting a Steam Deck 2 sometime after it launches.

I completely agree. Despite the Switch being comically underpowered it has the best lineup of exclusives by far.
