    Heya Lou,
    The Reason why you have two Nose Cones is because the Modellers at ILM Shaped the Noses Differently when they used the Rotor Sander. Some Nose Cones are Sharper than Others and some are more Rounded. So you have a choice. Red 5 will have a Different Nose Tip Red 1/3.
    Best

      Same with the extra engine end cover/baffle.... Red 3 had one that was just slightly different. it goes to show the research and length Bandai went through in designing these Star Wars
      kits.

    The extra engine bit I believe is because Red 5 is slightly different than its sister x-wings.

    Lou, really nice job ! You continue to prove that THE PAINT JOB IS THE MODEL. Put it with your Falcon.

    Nice X-wing build Lou. I love that fighter and have built numerous ones including the Bandai 1/72. And, what a coincidence but I just fished this week the 1/144 scale Bandai X-wing. That little sucker will put a strain on the old eyeballs. I like your painting instead of all decals but you have access to those perfect paint masks. I just went with decals. I had the same question about the extra nose piece too. Just an extra piece I guess. Great job Lou!!

    I've built three of these Lou and used Tamiya fine primer . No issues at all.

    So IF I remember correctly, the nose and engine are different for screen accurate versions of another version of a red squadron X-wing.. Its been a while since I built them but I think in the directions it says that someplace. From what I remember there is a different exhaust (shorter?) for Luke's bird.

  • @MrChief101

    Good to see you slow down and smell the MEK. Those Bandai kits are something else. Astonishing how fine their molds are. I find that the Tamiya primer goes down rather well-- despite being from a spray can.
    My pet guess as to the second, apparently identical "nose" is that they are "shared" sprues from one of those "parked and see-through maintenance" kits. With all the open hatches and whatnot. Who can be sure... ?
    Neat little model and done well, old chum.
    In about a month we're all going to look pretty funny-- I have the missus plow through what's left of my hair, so I look nominally good no matter what state the apocolypse!
    Finally, buddy, sometimes a florescent spermatozoa is just a florescent spermatozoa...

      The extra nose is to model other X Wings... they have a slightly different shape than Red 5. If you compare them, they are different. it goes to show the research and length Bandai went through in designing these Star Wars kits.

    I'm glad you mentioned that you find Vallejo paints clog your airbrush. I love the colour range and water based nature of them but this may be the cause of all my problems. I've not worked on anything for months because I got so frustrated with clogging. I'm thinking of changing brand. The Vallejo primer gives a nice surface finish but I have found that it tends to lift very easily when using paint masks. I now prefer Mr. Surfacer (1000 or 1500). Unfortunately it's lacquer based but comes in rattle cans or pots suitable for airbrushing (when suitably thinned) and bites into the plastic to give a rock solid base. Going to try MEK on my next model too. 3D printed holders are great at stopping bottles tipping over!

    • @michaelbenjmitchell1
      @michaelbenjmitchell1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't use the Thinner with Vallejo paints use the Vallejo airbrush flow improver instead for airbrushing. Vallejo thinner clogs the airbrush.

    • @spacedock873
      @spacedock873 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelbenjmitchell1 I've used various thinners, flow improvers and retarders but my airbrushes just seem to clog all the time with these paints. Using flow improver as a thinner can lead to bubbling - after all it's just posh washing up liquid!

    Another good thing about working on a towel: small parts don’t bounce as much when dropped.

    That Vallejo primer is a favorite of mine for my miniatures. It, along with Badgers, has a compound which shrinks as it dries to show all the detail. Looks great as always Lou! Oh, and Luke blows up the Death Star? Spoilers!!!!
    Haha, stay healthy Lou!

    When is Bandai going to release 1/48 scale Star Wars Kits? I like building bigger kits now that I'm an old fart! It is getting hard to detail kits that are smaller scale.

    The extra engine nozzle and nose is so that you can depict Wedges X-Wing,but as they don't give you the decals,a waste of time

    • @michaelbenjmitchell1
      @michaelbenjmitchell1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually if you have this kit and the red squadron special set with the 1/72 kit and the 1/144 kit you'll get the decals for Wedges X-Wing as it has markings for Red 1 through Red 5.

    Hiya Lou, hope you're well. I'm about to start a quick n dirty build of the Bandai 1/72nd scale X-Wing Starfighter, so I was wondering if you're still making the mask set for it? Since I am across the big pond, what's the best and easiest way to purchase it whilst avoiding high shipping costs to Germany? Thx

    Hey Lou... how old is this version of the Red 5 x-wing? I have several of the exact same one, all come with only 1 pilot, and a flat plastic silhouette 👤 mold! And only one droid.

    • @rustedbeetle
      @rustedbeetle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't remember exactly when Bandai did this, but the flat 2D pilots are only included in the kits designed for the North American market. If you bought the Japanese market kits before Bluefin started importing them for the NA market, you got the sitting and standing figures.
      The problem came from a dispute with Revell North America, who had the NA exclusive licence to produce Star Wars models. They argued that their license meant Bandai couldn't sell their superior kits in NA. The flat figures were a compromise between the companies. A sitting figure is part of the model, the standing figure is not, argued Revell, so Bandai used a silhouette standing figure for the NA market kits.

    @Lou Dalmoso - dude. It is so splendid to see folk in YT, doing their thing, gettin' in the groove without complaint. Hence here I dwell for a bit. Having said that: please change the Lloyd Bridges joke. I know it's a "hassle" (9 minutes with your tech, minutes may vary). I love Airplane so please remember - there are 19, 466 jokes in that film for a reason. Also, to those who can read and comprehend - sunlight (ultraviolet radiation) and "fresh air" (atmospheric dissipation) vaporizes (at a molecular level - some prefer the word "kills") microbes (pretty much ALL viruses) so, walk in sunshine (if the sun shines on your world, yes even through clouds - photons don't care 'bout no atmospheric condensation) so walk in sunshine. Too free? Too simple? You, as well, Lou, sunshine and air. I love your channel. (there are other jokes however I can't think of one right now) Aloha.

      The man gives an update every "week" about "gluing" and painting models. Is the penny still on the edge of the table or has it dropped?
      As to UV - bbc.com/future/article/20200327-can-you-kill-coronavirus-with-uv-light the words “You would literally be frying people,” are at the head of the article so a tin foil hat may be needed to protect yourself if you wanted to try that.
