I tried so hard to not eat too much-- came pretty close. T'was a good Thanksgiving Day. My unexpected trait is that I make apple pies. Too many-- I enjoy spreading some cheer at my favorite store, Aldi, in the form of a couple of pies for them. This year, I dived into The Joy of Cooking to try my hand at a blueberry pie. Worked good! Your major assembly is a wonder to behold. The threading of the needle as you worked putty around those nav lights was a nail-biter. And lo! the added styrene worked very well. That's a lot of touching up-- or even fresh application-- but I know you're up for it. Very obliging of Keith to send along fresh, better decals-- good to have friends. Between you and Phil, this set of builds has been a, ur-- long-- ahhmm-- trek. But worthy and worthwhile. Looking forward to seeing the final installation and glam shots.
Man the alignment issues on this kit are just unforgivable for what we paid for it, but you'd done a great job as always correcting the problems and making it work. Although I'm getting more and more tempted to just wait for the eventual 1000 scale kit from R2 myself. Lol
Lou, I know this has been an odyssey, but man she is looking great. The thing I have learned from this series is to be willing to work over finished areas. I have always been reticent to mess too much over finished areas but I think I am feeling good enough about my airbrush skills that I could confidently putty, sand, and paint over previously finished work. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and I am certainly thankful for you, my friend.
Slapped that ship so hard it went into next week! Good move; no reason to rush it and regret it later. It looks fantastic and will deserve pride of place at the Temple.
Beautiful work. I'm always curious as to why everyone lights the saucer section's impulse engines when they build a D? They were only on when separated.
Holy cow Lou, what a beautiful 1701-D! Excellant recovery there beside the impulse engines, had it been me the ship would've gone warp 9 to the nearest wall!! Thanks for showing us mere mortals the "wierding way" to a solution.
Almost ready for launch. Although the fit issues you're having aren't good it's nothing you can't sort out. But surely they did a test build before shipping out the model to their customers?? Despite the problems you've had on this build the Enterprise D will look spectacular when completed.
Its really looking beautiful Lou! The grinding down and re-aligning of the neck to saucer is really fantastic. Looking forward to your final reveal. Have a good weekend.
I was doubtful about all the blue paint, but it looks really great. I’m going to start building the 1/1000 and 1/1400 scale starships when spring comes around, and was wondering if you made aztek masks for them?
I have to admit that I was uncomfortable with your shading the Bussard collectors and the warp light spill ports or whatever they’re called. But at the very end of the video, as you were talking about wrapping up, I noticed the shaded parts and they looked *right*. The gloss base is a nice touch. No chance of it distracting from the model but it should still look nice.
I think the it would have been cool if the Ten Forward windows were lit up of if the windows there not be black. But this model does look awesome. Definitely not a model for the casual modeler. I think an clear acrylic tube just propped under the saucer when the model is just being set on the shelf and can be removed when showing off the model. That might help from the model being front heavy. Just a suggestion.
I hate that they gave you decals for those lower saucer bay doors, that is so cringe. But you have done so well at fixing so many of the flaws handed to you with this kit, I wonder if any of the other builders are scribing those doors or cutting the hull and adding 3D printed doors. Which they should not have to do.

well, part of the reason I bult this was to make sure that Round 2 comes out with a cheaper and better version. That seems to be my luck.
@@aztekdummy I remember you saying that when Phil and Wayne toured your First Model Display Room/ Dining Room.
Lou!!! Don't forget the yellow thrusters on the saucer edge, looks incredible glad you enjoyed it.
I've got those on standby to do with the rest of the neck decals
Master class is fixing Helios fitment issues. Hopefully we get a R2 version in the future.
A 1/1000 kit would be nice. But how would Round2 do all those windows?

I love that you didn't light all of the windows. Just makes it look that much more like the filming model.
Fantastic work overcoming the wonk!

Beautiful work on the Enterprise-D! Gave me some ideas on how to do the1:1000 scale refit Enterprise and the Original.
May I suggest a "Star Field" paintjob on the base.....
Beautiful work.

are you going to put some mini shuttlecraft in the shuttle bay?
thinking about it

Stay calm and model on into next week. It may not take all of next week but make another episode.
Looks great Lou, better to take your time and do it right than to rush through it.

no, they did not. they based all of their kits on scaling down their 6 ft ship by 50% without test building it
@@aztekdummy should have definitely test fitted first.
So many clamps. You were well prepared.
Where did you get the paper templates you used for the escape pod decals?
How come the bottom registration faces to the rear?
maybe because you're looking at it upside down?
Wow Lou. amazing work. Is this a personal build or a client build?
personal. but can be had for the right price (and a forklift)
Nice job! Just got mine last week, so it’s been super helpful watching you build yours. Thanks so much!

those are my redraw of what Helios provided, so I'll shoulder the "cringe" , but yeah, they should have been scribed into the 3d print to begin with
