when i was just 13 years old my dad bought mack 1942 and upgrade engine and put 1956 transmission and brake system on it and he start teaching me from that time to drive it and by age 16 i was shifting gears and double clutch perfectly that he was approves my driving skill hahah . good old time i never forget taking trip in my summer breaks with him i was so excited that i couldn't sleep all night to weak up at 4am and go with him .
This most certainly is a nice well kept B-61 Mack, a credit to it's owner, they were a good old work horse, they sorted the men from the boys, not to many modern day driver's could handle one of these !!
This takes me back... The first truck I drove was a B-61/Thermodyne diesel/Triplex. It was originally a single axle but was modified at some point with a stretched frame and a tag axle. I used to haul steel out of US Steel's Fairless Works in Pennsylvania. Out of all the trucks I drove, the B model was my favorite.

@@smashinpigeon6135 The stick on the right is the main box with gears 1 to 5 and reverse. The stick on the left is the ' joey' box with lo lo, lo split, direct drive and hi split. In otherwords the various ranges. I drove an R600 back in the 80's. It was an old truck then. Even after all the years that have passed I reckon I could jump in one and drive it like it was yesterday.
The B model was the first horse I drove when I got out of the service. Hot as the dickens in the summer, "Armstrong" steering, but a pleasure to drive either local or hauling distance. A workhorse, easy to maintain, simple working man's truck. Very nice unit, you did an outstanding job bringing her back. Thanks for the video.

I can remember seeing 3 of the old B-61's one behind the other heading towards Townsville one morning past my front door. Old Mum Battle, ( That's who owned Norgate Transport) had some nice old trucks. One day i was coming down the Palmerston Range Highway west of Innisfail and an old Mack B-61 was coming up the old Palmerston Range and if you ever drove on that road you know that it was single lane, some times just dirt and some times bitumen and pot holes. Foxwood sawmills in Ingham had an old B-61 parked in their yard under a tarp for years. I worked at Foxwood Ingham till it closed down. The last time saw that old yellow B-61 Mack was near Mareeba about 1987 with a load of logs. Ah , the good old days.
Coming from Malanda and travelling the Palmerston was a challenge when you met on of the Norgates, there was also a Mack of the same era running interstate , "The Silver Ghost" .

Mighty fine brings back many memories, of course it was America so L/H drive but I will always respect the old married Qudroplexs they were a lot more trouble free than the many of the new single stick transmissons of today, I new of one for a million miles only had one bearing and seal kit put in it.....and you do a really great job shifting that one, and oh yes thats a fine looking Puppy
youd really have to love the twin stick box to use it in an everyday driver, especially a vintage truck still doing interstate work in oz, V8 711 and quad box?
That seat all the way back---he barely fits in there. Never got too excited about a Mack, Started on a 1955 B-61, last one I drove was a 2006, they can keep those things.
