Wow he doesn’t over phrase any of the difficult runs and big down bows like other players, yet still maintains the integrity of a sonata and clarity which brings out the melody in a piece where the notes don’t play themselves.. honestly super refined super crisp and came out just how he would imagine it should be
I would say augustin hadelichs is about the same level as this! But when you get to the playing being as good as these two fine artists it’s really just personal taste
Before I had no interest for the Ysaye's sonatas, but listening to your interpretations makes me want to study them 🤣🤣. Greetings from Argentina and I hope you to stay safe!
I have been listening and studying you and 3 other young violinist. All 4 of you are among the best in the world. However, I am convinced now that you are THE greatest violinist in the world. Your playing and musicality move me like no other violinist in the world today. In some ways you remind me of a few of the really greats of the last century. I find myself wondering what you will be like in 10, 20 30 more years. Unfortunately, I wont be around to know. So, in the meantime, I sit back in amazement and supreme awe, and to some degree envy, and speechless adore and love your playing and artistry. I am working hard on approaching my own playing in some small degree, to mimic your sound and bowing. Thank you Kerson for the immense joy you bring to me and the world. I wish we knew more about your personal life.
Honestly the thing I admire the most about Kerson's playing is the freedom he has in his neck and head to move and still retain control over the instrument. I mean, everything he's doing is great, but a lot of players who can play all the same notes and don't have that kind of apparent postural freedom.
This should be performance should be a requirement for anyone serious about playing the violin. This is such an amazing display of a masters technique freeing this music to really be more than a ghastly difficult show piece. By far one of my favorite performances of this work. Just WOW!
He has the fastest fingers of any violinist I've ever heard. Listen to his performance of Tartini's Devil's Trill Sonata. The best trill I've ever heard.
To be honest you are a real gift for music world, as a musician I appreciate you and respect you. God bless all your knowledge and your family. Thank you for all Kerson.
I am working on this piece and his playing IS inspiring and unique. I mean, very unique. Light, and elegance.! Karson, you play this as if you are video-gaming...lol
I usually have to listen to this performance on CD with earphones in.... because if I watch this video I get distracted by Kerson's biceps too early in and realise I'm not listening anymore... I'm just drifting off into another fantasy hahaha. Epic performance though of course Kers :)
Your tone, musicality, technique is really awesome. I am big fan of your playing. I am so excited that you are playing with TSO in January. I will be there for sure.
You don't have to worry about your self esteem after you have listened to this masterful performance, as long as it doesn't exist, because it cannot possibly exist anymore, it is no longer a problem, it's okay, you have been freed from the burden of having a self esteem. Self esteem is overrated anyway. As a beginner (5years) violin student I can fully relate to that 🤣 my violin related self esteem just experienced its last dying breath after the first note.
Really love how great bowing you have. Really nice to take you as an example of bow weight control to work towards myself. Very passionate performance aswell👍🏻
Makes the violin resonate more overtones if done correctly (according to Leopold Auer iirc). It also gives him way more freedom in movement by alleviating any potential build-ups of (excess) tension. It's a very useful little trick!
Personally, I don't think I would use so much rubato, but Kerson's interpretation is certainly very convincing (not to mention his absolutely impeccable technique).
which violin is this;? I'm not aware of the instrument you perform on. And the string are? I would like to try them. I really love the tone of your wrist bowing, produced from this instrument. Congratulation. The expressions and timing is spot on. I immediately notice your bowing style.
Hey @Kerson Leong why do you and so many other violinists play that D♯ as a D♮ ? It's D♯in the manuscript at Juilliard, in the Ysaÿe edition 1924 and Schott reprint 1952, and in the Henle edition 2004. The Soviet Muzgig edition from 1965 does have it as D♮. Do you know where that change comes from? Lots of violinists play the D♮ and only a few play the D♯, Kavakos recorded D♮ and later recorded D♯. Thank you
The audio is his studio recording made in late 2019 in Domaine Forget, St-Irénée (Quebec, Canada). The video recording has been made from his home! It syncs perfectly.
What you hear has not been recorded at the same time as what you see. This means he probably has done an audio recording in traditional style, maybe with cuts, then recorded this video separately, then the two have been synced and mixed together. But what you hear is not what you see here :) even if it is for sure veeeery much similar ;) he's a great player anyway
The movement of the muscles is an art, his phrasing is also an art, and he is the great violinist of our century 🫀
A tip: you can watch movies on InstaFlixxer. Been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Gary Camilo definitely, have been watching on InstaFlixxer for since november myself :)

There isn’t a better recording of this piece out there in my opinion. Go for the Grammy dude.
