Dear Ms. Hahn. You are magnificent. I’ll try and keep this short. I’m a lifelong semi pro musician. About 6 years ago I was going through a life crisis and turned to Beethoven. I was so amazed and awed to read about the triumph and tragedy of his life and how that intertwined with his music. I was not a huge fan of so called classical music before only loving certain compositions but I became one through his portal. I would slowly read Mr. Swafford’s biography and then listen to recordings of the music. I came across your interpretation of the violin concerto with the Detroit symphony on TH-cam and (with a Heifietz version) listened to it over and over again. I would imagine the great Maestro composing the music, hearing it played (he was supposed to be a terrible violinist, right? 😂😂😂) for the first time in Vienna and then him being in the audience for your performance. The power of it often brought me to tears. Your playing is so commanding, but also tender and sweet which is just what I needed. Beethoven saved me and you were with him! BTW, I lived up the street from the Peabody Institute when I was in law school and now I think of you and LVB whenever I’m in the neighborhood. 🎉😊😊😊 Thank you thank you thank you a trillion times over!

For several decades already, I have been fascinated by these sonatas which seem to expand the violin, musically, to the dimensions of a piano, an organ, or even a full orchestra. They make the impossible happen. But very few are the violinists who are up to this challenge. In my opinion, it is perhaps in a way the ultimate challenge for the interpreter, because, yes, these sonatas are extremely difficult pieces, but not showpieces with scarce musical content; they are pieces of the highest musical value. And to be able to play them technically perfectly and to express at the same time all the richness of their musical content is bordering the impossible. But your recording of these sonatas fully demonstrates that this is indeed nonetheless possible... at least for you ! Once more, thank you very much for this recording and these videos !

I posted re Bach E major Concerto: Hilary, you're a great artist and I love you. But I think I could show you a thing or two on this one. I play it every other day busking. On violin and viola :-) For one, an harmonic on that long high E is not a bad idea. It can be effectful, I think.
