MY commel ITX mainbaord has this ZIF 26 connector for the slim gotek .. how do i mod that gotek so i could mount a rotary encoder and Oled display.. or how do i convert a normal 32 pin gotek to work with my mainbaord ZIF connector?
Greetings, The rotary encoder is programmable with the 34PIN Floppy Emulator, I have never seen any of them on a 26PIN slime Emulator, or 32Pin Emulator.
Hi, you need to copy the files on to the Hard Drive of a Windows Computer, then format a Flash Drive in FAT32 and copy back the files to the root directly of the flash drive. The main thing you need to know is how to rea the FAT12 File System in a computer, for that follow these steps www.sqlpassion.at/archive/2022/03/03/reading-files-from-a-fat12-partition/
My floppy disc emulator is programmed to emulate 1.44 discs. And my Roland MC 50 uses 3.5 discs. I can change the software in the floppy disc emulator to emulate 3.5 discs ? Sorry for my english.
Hello I just bought a 1.44Mb slimline emulator and installed it in my brother ult2002d machine. I formatted my USB 2.0 to FAT32 and had my embroidery file (.pes format) in the root directory. My file name is also only 4 characters long. It is still not able to read my file, but I know that I installed the emulator into the machine correctly because the machine can sense a floppy disk inserted. I am not sure what I am missing? Thanks
@@ledgeend3371 When you buy a generic one with factory original firmware that chances of it being compatible with you machine is slim, but not impossible. So it is like hit or miss, most of the time you have to customize the firmware so that your machine can communicate with the flash drive. Although I have seen cases where a generic drive worked just fine. You can always customize the firmware yourself using Flashfloppy firmware which makes you emulator more like a universally compatible drive. There are many videos on TH-cam on how to customize the firmware
Very informative tutorial. I need a 720k emulator for my IBM PS/2 model 30 8086 PC. Two problems: it uses a different, custom interface, and the 720kb verison of the emulator is a bit too pricey. The interface might be compatible to regular PC MFM floppy interface, it just has a different connector and pinout. Is it possible to hack a 1.44MB emulator into 720kB mode? I'd try to reverse engineer the pinout of the PS/2 floppy interface and make an adaptor, but I don't want to spend $35 on a 720kB emulator. The 1.44MB version is about half the price. And also, someone states that all PS/2 model30 are compatible with 1.44 drives, others say the 8086 version is not, only the 286 version. If it turns out to be compatible with 1.44MB, I would use the emulator in 1.44M mode instead. So I would really like to know if they are somehow convertible between formats. Maybe it just needs different firmware? Or the change of an internal solder jumper? Thank you in advance.
Hi and thanks for your compliments. The problem with your IBM PS/2 is the face plate even if you find a floppy emulator with a matching interface you will have a hard time reaching it from the thin opening in front. So you will need to cut out the face plate to be able to push the floppy drive emulator forward to be accessible. That will be a difficult challenge to do it right and without it looking ugly. After that your second challenge will be in the interface pins some used to come with a 26pin drive others with a 34 pin and even with older PCB edge interface like the 5 1/4 floppies. So you need to open it and count that and see what type of floppy you currently have installed in it.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 I might install the emulator internally, and bring out a short USB extension on the back to attach the flash drive. The original drive has a card edge connector, but different to standard 5.25" PC drives. It has no separate power connector, it gets the power via the ribbon cable. I don't know the pin count from the top of my head, the machine is in storage since at least 2016. I have to dig it out. My main question if these emulators can be hacked from 1.44M to 720k mode and vice versa?
@@mrnmrn1 If you want to install it externally then you must use a longer flat ribbon cable on the back because you must have access to the two buttons on the floppy face plate
You simply save files to the USB Flash drive as if it was a Floppy Disk. However you need to follow each step as I mentioned in this video by pressing the Data-IN and Data-Out buttons.
