Your videos always get me thinking. I read a great article about neuroscientists investigation into human olfactory sense..."Olfaction is the perfect predictive sense because it’s designed to bring you closer to the things you want and get you farther away from the things you’re trying to avoid." Apply that to the most basic human survival matters and it's quite profound. Apply to our love of and appreciation for fragrances it could be considered superfical but its the very same essential ancient human cognitive mechanism.
I use my olfactory sense to put me in an alter state of mind/being from that which surrounds me at that moment. If I’m feeling stressed or anxious I calm myself with my beloved fragrances. I carry them in my car, my purse, next to my bed, my favorite chair in my house. I’ve always connected scent with things and people I love.
Absolutely! The olfactory sense is one of the oldest senses and least understood. It’s very primal and of great importance. I was talking about it with a friend a couple of days ago, of how we just take it for granted. Our olfactory sense allows us to be aware of things even before we see them, fire as example; if we smell smoke we know there’s a fire somewhere. I find it all so fascinating! Thank you! 😄
I'm a 35 years old Brit living in England. I'm just about to buy Shalimar EDP and I can't wait. I think I will also get Polo Green as well, which will make a nice contrast.
Welcome home Sebastian. So great to see you 😊 I think I’m going to just go ahead and order this version of Shalimar. The original is difficult for me to wear, so I’ll look forward to this formulation.
I'm glad you addressed the "do you only like exclusive brands" question. It's all about dreams, right? I love many affordable frags ( like Charriol Royal White) but they must inspire and evoke. It's funny wearing Shalimar when elderly persons will detect the fragrance and have a Proustian moment, instantly recalling the memory from decades earlier. A magical perfume.
It’s a magical perfume indeed with such a rooted history. Love it to pieces!! I find that limiting oneself to price/exclusivity/marketing is rather sad. I’ve learned to never judge a book by the cover. :D
Fingers crossed it’ll be back and it’s just the case of no stock! It was still easily available in other stores other than Guerlain 68 in Paris. It never came to Canada :/
Thank you so much for this video and for including photos from your trip. I absolutely love this new Shalimar flanker. It is finally a Shalimar I can wear. The parts of the original Shalimar that made it hard for me to wear are toned down in this one, it still keeps a Shalimar DNA to me but the amped up vanilla makes this absolute perfection. I love it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it.
I really enjoyed hearing about what draws you to certain fragrance houses. Funnily enough, I own more Chanels than any other house- there is a restraint to them, which might feel a little cold. But I always feel stronger when I wear them. Guerlain is a big flirt, haha.
I totally get what you mean about Chanel. I get the same thing from them. Lately I’ve been wearing more Chanel actually, they’re something else for sure!
I'd love to know which ones you like! Coco has been love of mine since I was in high school. I remember the lady at the fragrance counter wouldn't give me a sample (this was the early 90's) because she said that was a scent for more mature ladies. So my mom went to get the samples- and gave the lady a piece of her mind. I often think of my mom when I wear it ❤
What a special memory! 🥰 I LOVE Coco! One of my favourites hands down from Chanel. The easier question would be “which ones don’t I like?” Lol And that’s easy to answer; I’m just not a huge fan of the masculine line with the exception of the classic Egoïst. Love that one too. The whole Exclusif line is marvelous but Gardenia doesn’t love me unfortunately..
Wearing the new Millesime Tonka while watching your video. So much looking forward to your review as soon as you get your hands on this one. Vanilla is pretty straightforward for me, unfortunately
Thank you for sharing your impressions of this beautiful perfume. I have a couple and I love it. I enjoy the edp too, but I prefer this one at the moment. I agree the opening is where you know it’s a relative of gorgeous Shalimar, then you exist in a grown up vanilla cloud for hours. Simply wonderful.
Thank you so much for this vidéo. I totally agree on what you said about the new Shali Millesime. To me until now it's the least Shalimar of Shalimar flankers. But it's beautiful and a good Shalimar substitute for people that the original Shalimar doesn't work for them. Again love the sobriety of your videos and they're not commercial love that!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I just purchase a decant of Shalimar EDT a few weeks ago to see if I like it any better then the EDP/ extrait. The MVP version sounds interesting. I've sniffed the earlier other vanilla flanker and although I don't remember the scent, I remember enjoying the experience.
I’d love to hear your thoughts about the EDT! That’s the only one I don’t have actually. I have the Cologne and Eau de shalimar but not the EDT for some reason.. If you have Spiritueuse Double Vanille, you could layer it with shalimar EDT. That would give you an idea of what the MVP is. :)
It didn’t come to Canada unfortunately. In the USA I believe some stores might still have it, a boutique in Florida and the Bellagio could also still have it. Apart from that, I don’t know. :( I got my bottle while in Paris.
Just picked this up as well! So excited for this to arrive. What’re your thoughts on Angelique Noire and Rose Barbara? Torn between the two for my next purchase. I’m also worried that they may be reformulated in the new packaging, as I read some reviews on fragrantica saying the new Angelique doesn’t smell quite the same as the old bottle
I hope you love it!! 🥰 They’re quite different from one another for sure. Angelique is heavy on the vanilla but it has some bitterness to it because of the Angelique but it’s very subtle, perfect balance while Rose Barbare is a great combo of a bold rose and honey. Of course there’s a lot more to each of them but that’s the basis of each of them to me. Rose Barbare is a very tenacious rose, unapologetically RED! It took me some time to fall for it, it was too jammy for me at first, perhaps because of the honey which later I grew to love. I think they have been tweaked a little but mostly in the opening stages. To me, after the opening fades away they smell the same as they did in the previous bottles. I’m really loving what they have done with them actually. It feels as they’ve added some extra layers.
Hi! I hope you enjoyed the trip to Paris!! I do miss there😢...Although I'm in the UK, the covid situation is pretty horrendous here so, not sure my winter vacation is gonna be😞. I've heard that new shalimar is slightly similar to Vanilla Diorama by Dior. What do you think about that? I'm very curious about this fragrance, however, I dislike Vanilla Diorama personally. Unfortunately, there's no availability of this fragrance at Guerlain's counter in my city...so, I'd like to know that aspect😀. Also, did you see coloured bee bottles at Champs-Élysées? Is it still available to fulfill some of L' Parisienne, and Elixir Charnel as I told you previously🤔?
I had a great time, thank you! 🥰 I have a small decant of Vanilla Diorama and I don’t find them similar. Vanilla D. reminded me of Feve Delicieuse actually. I like Vanilla D. but I don’t think I’ll be buying a bottle of it. It’s not a love. The colored bee bottles are still available! :D But the perfumes from L’Art et la Matière are the main options for the bee bottles plus the classics. Gourmand Coquin is coming back by the end of the month, perhaps it’s already back since I left. :)

@@Daunou777 I do the same! 🥰
Ohhh, this Guerlain boutique!!!!! Ohhhhh😚😍😋 I wish to visit it and stay there for a month- smelling, smelling, smelling!!!
Me too!! 😍

Im excited for you!! :D
Is this the first time you’re buying Shalimar?
I should get my nose on Polo Green again.. it’s been years.
Thank You For The Education As Always.. Thank You For Sharing Your Photos.🙏🏾
Thank you for watching!! 🥰

Glad you enjoy the videos! 😄

💓 thank you. I will try to get it!
The link on Guerlain is missing right now. Im so hoping it shows up again! Argh! Heartbroken that they never sent out an email regarding dates.
Fingers crossed it’ll be back and it’s just the case of no stock!
It was still easily available in other stores other than Guerlain 68 in Paris. It never came to Canada :/
I'm so happy I was able to grab this before it sold out 😅 It's officially removed from the website😓
I’m happy for you!! :D
Has your bottle arrived yet? If yes, what do you think of it??
great photos! takes me back! what a wonderful experience 68 was
Oh man, the online link is no longer available for the US market. I love the EDP as well.
I hope it’s just the case of no stock at the moment! 🤞🏻🤞🏻
I love Shalimar EdP. Guess I will love this version too 😍 can't wait to try it. Bdw that miniature L'Art & la Maitere bottles are adorable 🤗
I’m a sucker for miniatures! 😂

thank you so so much for such an indepth response to my question. you're great. I'd love to hear you talk about your serge lutens and lubins. cheers.
Thank you for the question!! 🥰
I’ll definitely be talking about both houses in the near future. I really love many creations from both! 😄

Great review! I love this new shalimar and stocked up lol. It’s already pulled from the US Guerlain website :-(
Oh no! :/
I hope it’s just the case of it being out of stock and it’ll be back again!
Where can I purchase the Millesime?
It didn’t come to Canada unfortunately.
In the USA I believe some stores might still have it, a boutique in Florida and the Bellagio could also still have it. Apart from that, I don’t know. :(
I got my bottle while in Paris.
I just purchased it on the Guerlain website. It must have been restocked. Im in the United States
Guerlain started selling online only recently in Canada, a few weeks ago but this perfume never came to Canada unfortunately. :(

I don’t think so, but we never know with Guerlain in all honesty..
