- Hello everyone,
It is hardly news to many of you who follow my work, that I am fairly well known for my work with the ancient ingredient that is Aoud.
I wanted to dedicate a video especially to the magic of this precious material, and to explore it in full detail, so that you can have an insight into my history with it, and my creative process working with it.
I couldn't think of anything more appropriate that filming it in the staggeringly beautiful Arab Hall in Leighton House Museum in London.

Having smelled some Rojas and owned two, I am now seriously considering getting rid of my whole collection and start collecting only Rojas! They smell divine.
Exactly my thinking yesterday before I watched this video. Puredistance M which is made by Roja might be the best scent I ever smelled.

My all time favorite house. My wife and I own many of Roja's beautiful creations. As a frequent visitor to Dubai Roja's UAE is a personnel favorite of mine. It captures the UAE perfectly. Oud's are such a beautiful mainstay of the Muslim world and to be shared by those who truly appreciate their beauty.

This man is light years ahead of any other perfumer I've ever sniffed. He's a genius. A master perfumer. Perfume is a hobby of mine. A passion if you will,and it's an honor to have owned several of his masterpieces. Just wish I was rich. One day Chypre extraordinaire will be mine 🤣 if you haven't smelled it you need too asap.
Wonderful video. Very detailed. It's quite a coincidence that this video came out today because on the weekend I discovered an atomiser of Aoud that I've owned for over six years. So I wore it yesterday. It really is something special and I feel it's become smoother over time.

Like many of life's most memorable experiences, aoud is an acquired taste. Few take to oysters on the half-shell at first-go. But persevering will reward you. Such is Aoud. Having spent a good portion of my childhood in the Middle East may account for my affinity for it. Xerjoff's Oud-Stars offering MAMLUK, is my favourite so far. Oud for Greatness has a certain appeal, but not enough to get me to take the plunge. No question but that Aoud adds mystique, depth and power to any fragrance. Well blended it is intoxicating. Doubt I'll be sampling any of Roja's offerings any time soon, given their heady prices.

That was an amazing video Roger, I've lived most my life in Dubai and have been fascinated by Aoud since I was a child. I've become obsessed with strong perfumes since my late teens and at 53 years now, I'm even more appreciative of a good solid perfume. Aoud, musk, Civat and Ambergris are ingredients that I absolutely adore in a blend.
Does amber aoud contain real ambergris ?

Oud is an Arabic word for 'wood'. It's refers also to the masculine scent that's in 'bokhour' and it has some history behind it. Dried Agarwood and Aloswood were a common valued trade in ancient arabia and was prized by arabs and jews as it was associated with piety and holy sites.

this is an expert and eloquent tutorial on aoud by Roja Dove himself. I would like to add a few random but related thoughts: I do not have a signature scent, but I do wear a signature note daily to some degree - the note of aoud. I'm fortunate to have in my collection "Musc Aoud," "Sweetie Aoud," "Enigma Aoud," and "O;" and I do hope to add "Ahlam" or "H" next. Roja's staff are amazingly kind, professional, and knowledgeable individuals who are only too willing to assist clientele with an elevated and quite certain measure of egalitarianism. (as a Hospice nurse myself, and my partner as a machinist; we have always been attended without pretension or condescension. I offer here very special gratitude to office staff Daisy and Harrods shop 'curator' Maurice - thank you.) Roja Dove's life work and artistic endeavors have played and continue to play an indispensable role in my fragrance world.
