My dream would be that Petersburg Virginia would capitalize on their Civil War history as Gettysburg has. They need to open Bed and Breakfast’s and show off the old homes that were there in the Civil War. Petersburg has so much to offer and could make the money but it’s never happen?

The city hasn't had any decent leadership for years.

Excellent presentation. Very professional. It's amazing that City Point was a major port, even during the Revolutionary War & prior to that. However, to visit City Point now, it is often very quiet.

Re the Crater. One needs to mention that a USCT brigade had been training for weeks as the point unit to take the crater, but at the last minute TPTB decided not to use them for if they took heavy casualties they (commanders) might be labeled as racist. So a white unit was used who had only a light briefing. On the morning of the blast, the CO was in his bunker drunk. The US troops were nearly as stunned by the blast as their enemy; they waited some 10 minutes before moving then slowly wandered down into the crater. Appalled, many stopped to give aid to the wounded. The bank was too steep to climb and ladders hadn't been provided. By then, as more Union soldiers poured in (including the original USCTs) the rebels had recovered; the rest is history. Grant said to the effect that this was the sorriest episode of the war and the most wasted opportunity to end it quickly.

No other commander in the history of warfare outside of Charles Gordon could have held the line like Lee did for 10 months at petersburg.

Great job!! You need more subscribers you could take off. My great grandfather x3 was killed in the opening days of the siege of Petersburg on June 18, 1864. Private Ruffin H. Bailey 24th NC infantry regiment company C. I have a copy of his last letter from June 5th 1864. It’s heartbreaking. He wants to go home so bad and be with his wife and kids but he’s be killed a few days later.

This is a fantastic video and you deserve to be hired full-time at the National Park Service..
(Only please don’t do like many of my Southern friends who try to exult General Lee above measure as the Bible says: “Ye suffer if one is exalted above measure”.
There are certain facts about generally that cannot be denied and must be acknowledged:
    He was a slave owner.
    Lincoln was not.
    (shame on Lee.)
The Declaration of Independence states the founding principles of the American revolution upon a which our Republic stands:... among these eternal truths are the fact that all men are created equal. The fundamental principle is the foundational bed rock upon which our republic was built.
    2. Roberty Lee did something his father was not willing to do; It is, generally broke up slave families and sold off family members of slaves. ...(Depriving them of the right to have a family. This was a cruelty that was not even common during the revolution.
Another fact is, Mr. Lee swore a vow,.. I wholly though registered in heaven that he will not fight against the constitution of the United States. We all know he wiped his ass with that bow. He stands in history as the biggest treason in human history.
It is also a fact that wherever his army went, African Americans were captured as slaves. His army was not the arm of the lord against depression but was the army of the Slaveocracy.
Generally was not the proper subject and is not the proper subject of admiration. And I am weary of bias southerners who dare not think for themselves, telling us about how great a man he was.

The term "colored" (4:33) is frowned upon.

Except that’s what they were called. USCT. US Colored Troops. I don’t mind saying it cuz that’s truth. That’s history. Honestly I don’t know what to call them now. There are way too many names for them? Black people? African Americans? I am so confused. Can’t just stick with one name can they?

Lets alter actual facts of history because a group of whinny ass " COLORED FOLKS" that think its fine to twist and turn history when it suits them but wants to act like they are butt hurt over what they was called back then. FUNNY i guess he should have used the N- WORD since they own it to. LMAO

The name African-American to me implies that they're not really Americans which makes the hyphen divisive; I won't use the term except to say why I won't use it. Besides, they weren't officially Americans until the ratification of the 14th Amendment, for what that's worth. Colored, IMO, is probably the nicest term used for "Negros" in 1864. It was also the "PC" (if you will) term for Negros until the 1970s when "black" became acceptable.
