    Probably too late for this now, but I'd recommend putting a sheer/nude fabric sort of slip on beneath the dress whenever you wear it, to help your skin not smell like pennies but also to reduce redness from the metal touching your skin. Gotta say I do love the variation of color given by the pennies though, shiny versus the mucky and everything in between. Very cool to look at. You honestly could just display it on a mannequin at a museum if you didn't want to wear it again, I'm sure someone would display it!

      Well, scalemail, but a lot of the same principles apply, having a corset styled back would also help transfer half the weight to the waist, as well as making it easier to adjust the hips to the point that it could much easier be donned or doffed, the next step would be making it practical to sit in, with chain mail this is easy, but scalemail would probably need some adjustments in how the scales are arranged or something.

      (Edit: I do think it is lovely)
      Also wider straps on the shoulders for weight distribution would have also helped. If your smaller chested, you probably have never noticed this problem, but it is a bra problem for larger chested women. Weight distribution, it is a thing. OH, and corsets also were for this reason as well as shapewear. All those crinolines, hoops skirts, petticoats, and over skirts weighed a lot also. Distributing the weight over the entire torso and hips made it easier to wear.

    • @midnightqueen3332
      @midnightqueen3332 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@martinhg98 making the waist tighter wouldnt be that possible with a dress in this style without some significant alterations. She had to slide in from the bottom of the dress, meaning it has to be able to go over the widest part of the body the hips or the shoulders(depending on your frame). Shrinking the waist means adding a Hook/Eye or belt system to the dress to accommodate a smaller waist.
      The way I would solve it is mostly by Corset and having several Hook/eye clasps on the Corset and dress for it to hang off of, distributing the weight across the body and hips.

    If I remember correctly, scale mail was often made with a leather backing so it didn't pinch as much. That is if a warrior didn't already wear a layer of padding anyway. Adding a thin layer of leather or cloth would probably make the dress a little more comfortable and less cold when put on.

    • @GrndAdmiralThrawn
      @GrndAdmiralThrawn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Yes. Scale mail was usually sewn directly into a liner of some sort (either leather or cloth) in order to reinforce the armor and give more surface area for the scales to rest against the body.
      Oddly enough, since none of these would have been worn directly on the skin anyway, she actually accidentally hit on a different type of scale armor at the very beginning called lamellar armor, in which the scales are sewn together horizontally instead of overlapping. This gave more flexibility and less weight at the cost of more solid protection.

    As someone who makes maille, I am impressed with how quickly you got your dress done! A full suit of armor often takes 50-60 hours to make using either steel or aluminum rings. Someone who was experienced in chain maille could probably make something similar to your dress using only metal, but it would take a good 30-40 hours. If you ever do something similar in the future (I know, it's a crazy amount of work) I recommend using a belt to take the weight of your shoulders, or to wear padding underneath the shoulder pieces. Your work is beautiful, thank you for sharing.

That metallic “coin” smell you identify actually happens as a result of the metal reacting with the chemicals in the sweat glands of your skin. This means, at the end when go said you smelled like pennies and needed to shower, you actually weren’t dirty at all (remember, you cleaned them all before using them) you were actually just smelling your own body on a chemical level.

    Omg, I cannot express how incredible that dress turned out to be🤩 It’s giving off knight armor, glam rock stage outfit, mermaid (cause scales). Awesome work👏🏻😍

    You really put so much effort on that dress. Almost 2,000 pennies, WOW!! By the way, I'm a fan from the Philippines.

    How did she fit like 3 weeks into a 11 minute video whilst other people would have a 30 min video its insane, And she is incredibly talented

      I really liked the conciseness of the video it made it super fun where I find longer crafting videos more tedious. Don't get me wrong I still watch them but with my adhd I watch them in parts like I watch a segment one day then a segment another or maybe just part of a TV show as a break. I really love unique crafts like this so I was really glad to see a more adhd friendly crafting vid
      It is actually why I just subscribed after one video (I just found the channel)

    This could become a really classy cocktail dress if the back covers a little more hahaha I love it!!!

    Greetings young miss. First time seeing your channel today. I've made some maille (mostly adult sized but some for children as well) in my youth and know that it takes a lot of time and dedication, not to mention patience. I worked mostly steel, aluminum sometimes and one in grade 5 titanium in the four in one style. What you've done here is so creative and fun, I am impressed, well done!

      Sounds like you're still creating maille lol
