Just came back to this video to say I used one of these as a popper today on Perch and it saved the day! Olive over white craftfur with a hot orange throat! Thanks again!
Having fished the boobie (ashamedly), with success, I think it should be outlawed in catch and release fisheries. Sure, fish will eat it, it works. BUT when fished in static mode, with the fly, on a short leader attached to a full sink line, hovering just above the lake bottom, fish inhale it. They don’t bite it like a chironomid or a suspended leech; they suck it in, sometimes so deeply into their gullet you can’t even see it to remove it with forceps. This “fly” is a fish killer, takes no skill to tie or fish, and represents nothing in nature, unless you are looking at costumes in a peeler joint, and those aren’t even ‘natural’. Send a nicely tied dyed deer hair gomphus or darner pattern down, strip it slowly on a type 6 sinker and know that you a fooled fish. The boobie is for boobs.

Bobber the Clown
They dont you are using either full sinkline or sinktip line and the fly will float higher than the sinklines
