    'Sju' is my favorite number ever. We don't have that weird sound in Danish so it always amazes me when Swedes say that number. It's so hard for me to pronounce. Counting is very straight forward in Swedish though. Nowhere as complex and weird as Danish, haha!!

      Yes, it's a bit like German without those delayed verbs, and a more laid back pronunciation. One reason behind this being the connection to the Hansa league's Plattdeutch (Low German) in the middle ages. As you probably know, Swedish did not undergo the consonant shifts High German went through. Swedish also use a pretty simple grammar, even compared to English (although some word order patterns can be hard to grasp).

    I have a suggestion! When you were first going through the alphabet and the numbers, you put on the screen how you would write it out and that was very helpful! But! When you started getting to the “exceptions” the CCs don’t know how to translate what you are saying, so it is a little harder to follow you when you don’t have the words or numbers spelled out on the screen. And I know that’s a lot of extra work on your end but it would really help a visual person understand the differences in what you are vocally saying. If that makes sense? But otherwise I love this!!! I need a pen and paper to take notes on so I can practice! ☺️😄

    What you were saying about taking away the last letter when you say it fast... speech differs from the written version of words bc the written ones are how we’re supposed to pronounce them but in real life (speech) the pronunciation of the words change in order to make it more fluent and rhythmic. I study english as a foreign language at uni (english pedagogy actually) so we’re taught about this in phonetics and phonology (: in happens in all languagues!! pretty rad, isn’t it?

    Quite excited for Sweden week, thank you so much for this! With the "i" and "e" thing I think the Swedish way is much more similar to how most European languages say them, English is the exception, certainly amongst Celtic and Germanic languages ( I am Welsh and speak Welsh). "i" is generally pronounced like "ee" (like the word "see") and "e" is more often pronounced like it is in the word "end." But then English is an absolute mess of a language anyway so the letters make whatever goddamn sound they want. (trough, through, taught, thorough, lololol makes perfect sense.)

    • @paulingvar
      @paulingvar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The English language certainly does not follow the original idea to use the alphabet as it sounds. And the vowels often express more than one sound, as in A ( sounds like ei )

    Jag skulle tycka det var väldigt roligt om du gjorde en video om svenska "expressioner" (kommer inte på ordet.....), typ "det kostar skjortan" och översätter dem, för det är ju alltid lite roligt att se var de menar litteralt, vet inte riktigt om det skulle vara en bra idé att göra en hel video om men tyckte bara det lät kul. I alla fall, ha det så bra och fortsätt att vara så grym ❤️

    When I count fast I say "fyr", "ått", "ni", "ti", "elv" instead of fyra, åtta, nio, tio, elva (four, eight, nine, ten, eleven). A lot of Swedes also say nie and tie instead of nio and tio (nine and ten). The reason why Swedes skip the last part of some words (this happens even more frequently in some northern accents) I believe is that we usually accentuate the first part of words when speaking. So when shortening words and names we often stick with the first part. We also like to two-syllable nicknames, even if you have a one-syllable name... Someone called Bo would be nicknamed Bosse, for example.
