I can't help loving Swedish! It's a beautiful language. I'm learning it for 1 year now and not even sure that I will need it someday since it's mostly spoken in Sweden only but I'm learning it anyway! ♡
@Kurocoon yes, i speak German and English. I started learning Swedish about 2 days ago, I know it does not sound like a lot. But some words are very similar to german, so it’s way easier to speak and learn. Also the tones like the rolled „rrr“ is easier to say since it’s normal for Germans to do.
I remember the old video where you said "All you need to know in Swedish is "My name is Katrin" and "Katrin is the best"" and for a long time when I met a Swedish person I was saying these phrases :) And now I know a lot more, thank you!
It is a fantastic video for total beginners like me. I have been a bit familiar with languages (Englisg, French, German) since my youth/early adulthood but not at all with Swedish. And at the age of 50+ I found a motivation to learn Swedish: my son, daughter-in-law and two young grandsons are starting their new lives there. I am determined to learn Swedish as much as I can and am exited about it. It sounds so beautiful and gentle. Thank you for this vid, it's extremely helpful to start off!
I love the addition of going through everything again a little faster a second time! I know this isn’t practical with all of the videos, but on ones like this where it’s essentially just vocab rather than full conversations, this is super nice to help us get used to things speeding up a little bit at a time!
Hi. I love learning languages! I am married to a Swede and in 4 years he hasn’t been able to teach me as much as you do in your videos! I love this! 😂 Can’t wait to be able to have a conversation with my girls and my Swedish family in Swedish! Tack så mycket!
I think it's so funny that the swedish word for old is gammal, because in german we have the word gammlig that translates to something like rotten or moldy. I never have any problems remembering this word😂
I absolutely love Swedish! The pronounciation is so melodic. When I'll finish learning German for my work projects - I'll definitely switch to Swedish. Also, "Fika, Lagom, & Mys" are not only interesting concepts but also a great way to make life a lot cozier 😊 Greetings from Ukraine 🇺🇦
Hej Katrin!
Hi Katrin! I'm so glad you started this channel -- I was already in the process of learning Swedish online by myself, and now watching tutorials from a vlogger I already like makes it 100 times more interesting. xx
Thank you for your precise enunciation. It makes it easier to understand your Swedish. I've been to Sweden a couple times many years ago, and have always had a little trouble understanding when native speakers use normal, fast speech. I'm trying to hone and improve since I do see my Swedish friends every couple years or so. Well done.
I am constantly amazed by the diversity of Germanic languages. We've got English language that everyone can speak. Then we got Dutch that sounds like the closest cousin language to English. And we got Swedish language that sounds like joyful singing.
If you haven't yet, maybe try to listen to some Frisian, which is the actual closest related language to English. English and Frisian are sister languages. They are in the west-Germanic Anglo-Frisian language branche. Frisian's western dialect and biggest form of it is spoken in the north of the Netherlands, just across the pond (North Sea) from England. The languages are not mutually intelligible anymore but once they were. Over the ages, English got influences from for example French and Frisian from mainly Dutch.
These videos are so helpful! Thanks for this awesome content. My husband is Swedish and I’m working on learning the language; reading and writing comes super easily but hearing it has always been a little challenging for me. His whole family speaks perfect English but it’s really important to me that we eventually teach it to our kids in the future and that I can converse with his family that still lives over in Sweden. Thanks again!
I've been in sweden for 4 months and i am trying to learn the language, so diiiificult I searched a lot for videos to learn and your video was easy to learn Tack så mycket💛 Please continue
This was super helpful thank you. Out of all the learning material on YT, your videos are the best. Its what Im looking for, real swedish thats not out of a textbook.
Note that "snälla" is only used for "please" in situations when you forcefully urge people to consent this or that. It's not used for everyday polite requests, where we instead use (formal) structures like "vänligen...", "var god..." etc - or else drop it completely and indicate informal politeness by structures like "skulle du kunna tänka dig att...?", "skulle jag kanske kunna...?" and similar.
These videos are being a great complement for me learning Swedish. I've been learning with duolingo for four months now and i also listen to a lot of Swedish folk music (beside playing and started singing a bit myself). But i felt the need of just listening someone speaking it to get used to the sound of the common speech. ;)
My top favorite swedish folk bands are Hedningarna, Garmarna and Gjallarhorn, but lately I've started listening a lot of new stuff. Åkervinda, Triakel, Kraja...
OMG, Katrin! Going through the phrases again at the end really helped! I am beginning to finally HEAR the spoken words (rather than just reading them)! It's been difficult for me, but I have been watching since February '18... I had almost given up because I couldn't discern individual words in spoken Swedish.
YOU ARE FANTASTIC!!!! The best Swedish Language Course on TH-cam!!! I've just found you!!! (my lucky day) I love your diction, tone of voice, pronunciation, etc. Besides, you're so pretty! I'm going to attend all your classes. I appreciate your effort!!! Thanks
Thank u for the channel! I love that u have allowed me to support u. Please keep up the great work. In another video you also had a list of the words typed out. I loved that it makes it so much easier for me to study that way. I will be pausing your video to write each of the phrases out... So a list helps quite nicely but i also understand u have your own time restraints. Loving the channel. Hope to see more soon.
Yes, it's a germanic language, like Dutch and English. In a way even more so than Deutsch / Tyska / Allemand (that has undergone radical sound changes, since the proto germanic stage).
Hallå! Jag lar svenska, men jag pratar lite svenska. I was so excited to be able to understand all but one phrase right off the bat. These videos are the best :D Tack så mycket, Katrin :)
🐞Tack så mycket Katrin. Du är väldigt snäll och hjälpsam. This format you are using is just right for us, so easy to follow along. My son and I can practice this lesson together along with a couple Apps we use. Thanks to you now we have something fun that’s just ours!👩🏼👦🏻
Hej Katrin!
Thank you! I am in the process of learning how to speak Swedish and will be taking Swedish Language in Chicago. I am planning to visit Sweden in September of 2021. Hopefully I will be able to carry a conversation in Swedish when I get there!
For a dutchie swedish is so similar, can almost understand everything u said. Also, "inte" is the same as the dutch 'niet' but the letters are set in other spots😂
I’m hoping I impress my boyfriend with these tonight on Zoom as he’s Swedish and I’m an English girl trying to learn Swedish 😂😂 Tack så mycket för den här videon!! Du är fantastiskt 😀 Ha en bra dag :)
You are a perfect language teacher . awesone .
Extremely helpful, thank you!
Can I just say that the sound of Swedish in my ears makes my heart melt like Swiss cheese on a hot plate...
I can't help loving Swedish! It's a beautiful language. I'm learning it for 1 year now and not even sure that I will need it someday since it's mostly spoken in Sweden only but I'm learning it anyway! ♡
Same pinch!
Same here! I've been learning it for around 3 months! :)
Sweden and Finnland
I'm guessing you're Russian? Yah Swedish and Norwegian are awesome, but Danish... sounds a bit weird.

Very nice
I came here to praise the faster repetition at the end of the video. I had never seen this being done before, usually videos only say very slowly.
Hi. I love learning languages! I am married to a Swede and in 4 years he hasn’t been able to teach me as much as you do in your videos! I love this! 😂 Can’t wait to be able to have a conversation with my girls and my Swedish family in Swedish! Tack så mycket!

Gammelfleischskandal :)))
The two words are actually cognates.
Excellent!! Your videos are outstanding!!! Tack!
With you everything is easier ...you are the best teacher 👍 tack
This is getting better and better!
The slowed down speaking really helps pick up on the words, because regular speakers speak normally and it’s hard to tell words apart ☺️
I absolutely love Swedish! The pronounciation is so melodic. When I'll finish learning German for my work projects - I'll definitely switch to Swedish.
Also, "Fika, Lagom, & Mys" are not only interesting concepts but also a great way to make life a lot cozier 😊

A little fast for me, but thankfully TH-cam has a slowmo button. :p
Yes. Darn, she speaks so fast, gosh, I guess I'll just have to watch over and over and over....
It's the lack on silence between the different words that makes it hard.
The brain has no time to digest what she said.
Absolutely fantastic. Just what I need. Love Sweden. Definitely my happy place.

great video! and you're so funny when nodding your head while saying negation of sentences 😊
Note that "snälla" is only used for "please" in situations when you forcefully urge people to consent this or that. With a form like "är du snäll" somewhere in between, regarding style level.
This video is so clear and useful! Tack så mycket!
Thanks a lot to TH-cam who suggested me your channel ❤❤
The intro was a very nice, slow speed but then the phrases got so fast!
These videos are being a great complement for me learning Swedish. What some of the folk music you listen to?
My top favorite swedish folk bands are Hedningarna, Garmarna and Gjallarhorn, but lately I've started listening a lot of new stuff. Åkervinda, Triakel, Kraja...
I keep coming back to this video periodically. I’ve been learning Swedish for four years now. Need to work on my pronunciation 😅
Tack så mycket för hjälpen

Still a family language of Dutch. Easy to learn for the Dutch and Flemings. Easier then Danish. Beautiful sounds.
