Drone control range affects how far away you can control your drones. As long as They're within the DCR when ordered to do something, they'll continue to do it until they can't anymore regardless of how far away you are. I can launch, order attack, then retreat far beyond my DCR, I just can't tell them to do anything else until I get closer to them.
2 things: Drone Control Range is how far from you they will go, targeting isn't necessarily important. You can order your drones to attack without a target & they will fight anything within DCR that attacks you. Targetting isn't required. Also, if you decide on a Drone 102 video, I'd include drone mods. They take up a slot but can really improve performance & application. Maybe touch on E-War drones, as well. I've heard of expensive ships being saved by a flight of E-Wars that broke an enemy's lock at just the right time.
As far as I understand it, your drones will operate against targets within DCR, but you can't issue commands versus unlocked ships. Drone 102 absolutely on the way including EWAR, Logi, DDAs, ODTLs etc! Thank you 😊
A bit of comment necromancy on my part but...just last night I had trouble locking onto some guardian serpent is rats...had drones out and they automatically and independently targeted the ships and began seek and destroy mission and slapped them to oblivion. Love my drone babies and they love me ❤❤.
I LOVE the Tristian!! Probably my favorite frigate. At least combat wise. I love the merlin too but tristan is my favorite. It makes me think of Babyon 5 Mimbari ships. Great video as always sir!
Ah good times with Valhalla!! Well, if you do decide to come back I've got a tonne of content already and a tonne more on the way; Catskull is in EVE Online and we're taking applications; and my referral code in the description will give you a 1m SP boost even on existing accounts!
2:14 Here are some other relevant skills I would recommend someone train up if they want to fly a drone ship, since they can have a direct or indirect impact on the drones themselves or help you to fit a drone ship with the modules you'd want on one. It should also be noted for newcomers that some skills will need to be purchased before they can be trained, for example the Gallente Cruiser skill that is common for someone wanting to fly a drone ship. *CPU Managment* It will help you in the way of equipping modules that help your drones do more damage, give you more drone control range, or help you equip modules for tanking such as a Damage Control or armor/shield tanking gear. All of those sorts of modules will require CPU to get the most out of them, and Tech II level gear for any module will end up requiring more CPU for your ship to equip it so maxing out your available CPU in a fitting will allow you to equip better modules that are Tech II modules. *Long Range Targeting* A higher targeting range will help out any ship, but especially drone ships that aim to target enemies from far away out of their weapon range and then have their drones do the work. You will need to upgrade to Omega to be able to train up to a high enough skill to use a Tech II Sensor Booster module, but if you have an Omega account it's a Tech II module worth having on your ship and training up your skills for. *Weapon Upgrades* This skill being trained up to Level 4 will allow you to use Tech II Drone Damage Amplifiers, which will probably be a staple on any drone focused ship you fly. *Jury Rigging & rigging skills* Jurry Rigging being trained up to Level 3 will allow you to train up the other rigging skills as Level 3 in Jury Rigging is the prerequisite for all the other rigging skills. Drone Rigging will probably be the most relevant one for drone ships, but since there aren't any drone rigs that provide a direct boost to their DPS you could look to fit other rigs on your ship to help out in other areas for your ship, such as with tanking or giving your ship more CPU to fit drone boosting gear. *Cybernetics* Training this skill up to at least Level 3 will allow you to equip decent implant enhancements that will make your skill training come along faster overall, and for drone ships there are several skills you would want to train up to Level 5 as soon as possible such as Drones and CPU Management. Training up a relevant ship skill as high as you can get it would also be important and take some time for that skill to train, so lowering training times will be a big help in the long run.
It was my favourite weapon in EE and it is also in EO. I’m heavily training in to Frigate to Cruiser focus on Drones. No time to play but my Character keep training. Love this concept that you can train skill even if offline. Maybe only can play regular agin in a few months …
@@captainbenzie in EE I usually used Rattlesnake (moved to appoc. Striker due to isk gain) but I prefer Cruiser and below (Gila, Vexor) In EO i fly mainly Tristan so far and Algos a bit but could not play for 3 months, so I guess I could use a Vexor now. Target will be a variety of Frigat up to Cruiser. I play Jack of all trades so I do Industry, mining, ratting, exploring, but no specialise .
Correct, but drones can be a lot more expensive to replace! Tried running an Ishtar through a Fortification Frontier Stronghold and lost all 10 Ogre IIs, 6 Hammerhead IIs, and a solitary Hobgoblin II. Those were worth more than the loot payout of the site!!
to add, you need not dock at a station, you can just go to a structure (and be tethered) and you will get repaired for free (this includes the ship and it's drones).
Drones were great support weapon in EO vs EE. Small/medium ships could deploy drones encases where they nos/neut/tackle made it an absolute struggle to stay within their shorter weapons range to apply damage, and larger ships could deploy drones to supplement against targets where tracking or explosion velocity of their larger weapons was just not keeping up. EE had to go on to over bonus ships repeatedly as compensation for what drones would have originally been there for and even no, they still can’t seem to get the balance right.
@@captainbenzie Well, I liked how drones made many off-the-wall ships marginally viable in EO, instead of everyone simply chasing the highest number. When bonuses were things like just an addition 5%/level, a 3-weapon eware side ship like celestes could find a way to totally 1up my faction stabber and make me hate life with its 5 mediums slots and 5 medium drones, even without good ship specific damage bonuses in online. Eve Echoes however, the celestes would practically be an after-thought to the blatently faster, tankier, more weapons, higher bonus’d faction stabber… It is so less forgiving or flexible in setup choices to stray too far from the in-class meta’s that it feels like too many ships are going to waste in the echoes system, that could have still been used rather well under online.
Well that answered a question about drones! I thought that all ship could mount them but never bothered to ask because I just don't use those weapon types anyways. 😆
Can be vital when pvping to know if your opponent can use drones and if so, how many. Even some frigates use them that you wouldn't expect, like the Breacher, for example.
