Things to know before buying a 4 post lift

  • It's not uncommon for automotive shops to upgrade their lifts. This provides a great opportunity for the everyday hobbyist to purchase an old one. Earlier this year I purchased a used rotary 4 post lift that had been in use for almost 30 years. It was in awful condition. I restored it back to new in this previous video: • Restoring a 30 year ol...
In this latest video, I go over how they work, things to look for when going to purchase a used one, disassembly/assembly tips, and talk about maintenance. Hopefully I can help you avoid some of the same mistakes I made.

I have to give a BIG thank you for posting this video! I recently inherited my grandpa’s hydraulic BendPak 4 post lift and I want to make sure it’s in good working order since it hasn’t been consistently used for close to decade. Your video was very comprehensive and informative. Your shop is awesome btw!

Very well done, this has been a very informative video for me. I have bought one of these used from a dealer that takes trade-ins. It is in fair shape and should need little to no parts since it was yearly inspected in a state garage and was required to have all worn parts replaced. Still, I would like to paint it and go though it as you have and your pointers and assembly tips give me a good idea of the road ahead. I did secure the factory manuals for it from the dealer like you did.

Very Nice job, The rolling jacks seen here "which are from Rotary" go for around $5-6K alone! and are not the cheaply made rolling jacks you see online.
You STOLE this lift with everything included!
I repair this equipment so I know the deal you got. Thanks for the video!

Just curious why you couldn't move it by parking your trailer under the lift. Lower runways and crossbars onto 4x4's across the trailer then keep hitting the lower lever and use 4 ratchet straps to raise the legs up as much as possible. I think this should work, put 2 sets of ratchet straps on each corner if really concerned. Then strap whole thing down to the trailer, may even be able to leave the bridge jacks in place and strap them down. Even if you have to drive 100 miles at 45 mph that's quicker than taking it all apart maybe? By taking it apart you did find some interesting worn out stuff but still, I would seriously consider moving it without taking it too far apart.
Good video of your process and good tips nonetheless.

Good evening. Thank you for the video. I’ve got this same lift, can you share the owners manual with me and where you purchased your parts?!?

Hey sorry for the late response. I was able to track it down in my email and just uploaded it here: 802projects.com/downloads/RotaryAR123.pdf
