Who else can spend hours listening to Steve Reich without getting bored?
Absolutely no spending here. It's invested time! ;)
No se hizo la miel para el hocico del burro
His music is absolutely mesmerizing! You should see it live if you ever get a chance. I watched "drumming" in person and the repetitive visual input paired with music was trance-like.
Definitely. Marimba stuff, drumming, clapping lol. So many fun choices in this guy's catalog.

Nostalgia.
Learned of the minimalist approach to composition at the Berklee College of Music, Boston through Rick Applin.
This piece, in particular, reminded me (instantly) of the guitar players of the Congo, Juju Musicians of Nigeria (Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade both Nigerian guitar players).
Also, the ostinatti tendencies in Traditional African folk music...
Heard the piece for the first time, at night, on the NPR Radio Station, around 2:30am, on the Charles River, MIT, Cambridge side, 30 years ago!
It reminded me of home, 10,000 miles away...
Thank you Mr. Steve Reich.
This makes my days better, the sun get's brighter, the sky more, the coulds more white and funny, the rain more confortable, makes everything beautiful
First heard "Little Fluffy Clouds" over 30 years ago and I'm just getting round to listening to this!
This is the piece that made me like minimalism. It takes you away somewhere on a musical journey.
SIMPLY STUNNING.
looking across moelfre bay at dawn on this crisp early autumnul sunday.
Thankyou.
💖🙏💖
God this is amazing... I can't believe I only discovered Steve Reich today!! I'm freaking out!! It's all so good!!
OMG, That's exactly how I discovered him too. Civ 5.
Lucky you. I recommend Music for 18 Musicians.
You'll be glad you did :)
A. Whatfish l first heard this via The Orb. which was sampled on their debut album. This is actually the first time l listened to this in its true form.
Nagoya marimba, drumming, different trains, city life, proverb ... :)
I studied classical guitar in college over 25 years ago and we played that. It was 12 guitars and 2 basses and a very cool conductor. If I remember well on this version it's Pat Metheny who does all the tracks.
When I used to study music in I-GCSE, we only heard the 3rd Movement of this whole song which by itself is already pretty amazing. And now finally, I have heard the whole song and I can't believe I never heard the whole thing before. It's unreal!
As someone who also studied music at IGCSE, we also only heard the third movement. I remember being amazed that day and spending the rest of the day (our lesson was in the morning) keeping the song name in my head as the guitars stayed in my mind all day, until I could get home and search it up. I was absolutely captivated by it and still am today!
This is the best musicalization for reading, you can't get sleepy
10:20 Where the real fun starts
How to make 15 minutes feel like eternity (in a good way). Feels like, after you had listened to the whole album, you are 10 times older, wiser and more patient.
I’ll have what he’s having 🥃

Imagine how you will feel after playing the piece for 15 minutes.
Music beyond words, thanks for posting. The Orb connection is sick. Love the Dali pic too.
Steve and Pat create an Eternal Horizon of Hope...... thank you 🙏
the last movement gives me shivers
Same.

it's like they foreshadow the ever living heaven out of that final chord... it strikes a chord in my blood
This one just DOES something to you. I can't even begin to put it into words. The patterns just seem to spiral into infinity.
The golden ratio quantified and translated into something we can see. It's like a flower growing, with infinite lifespan for us to watch outlive us...
Perfect from the Pictures to the Music, so impressive...
Will forever keep coming back to this one
Fantastic song, heard for the first time today on the equally fantastic BBC 6 music radio station. Recommend the song and the station.
I just discovered this. I am in absolute awe; I wish I could've known this classical composition sooner. This is breathtaking.
I could not have enjoyed this more...great images paired with an outstanding Reich composition. Pat Metheny is pure joy and I am grateful that he is present in our world. He continues to make it a better place. I still own this on prerecorded cassette and can recall countless west coast road trips with this as good company. Thanks for the cycling images in particular. The eight "people" that thumbed this must be missing their's.
Saw this live yesterday. Fantastic! Exchanged some words with Steve Reich himself!
Beautiful music! And it helped my baby fall asleep ☺
An interesting fact I am a healer and use Mr. Reich with my neuro-divergent patients. They find it very calming. And I love it too!
Still the most beautiful composition I've ever heard. So harmonious.
This feels like the music you hear in your dreams right before you wake up.
Truly awesome- This recording was introduced to me over 20 years ago and it still give me chills.
"What were the skies like when you were young"
This song sounds amazing performed live, it's magnificent.
My favourite version of Electric Counterpoint by far.
see kuniko th-cam.com/video/NwQwfaTv6OI/w-d-xo.html
As the composer of this piece, I am quite pleased with the performance. I proclaim (via TH-cam comment) for this to be one of the better ones. Love the electricity! You know what, for my next piece I'm going to write "Acoustic Counterpoint" (don't tell the press)! Seems like a good idea - I'll even include some actual counterpoint in it for spice. By the way this reminds me, it's been too long since I've thrown a concert of my works, where only my works are allowed to be played and no one else's lol
Bruh you must hate the guy
thank you in advance for considering writing this kind of music, this is a refresh in this same-old-thing world !
thanks for the update Mr. Steve let us know when you finish that next one
Phillip Glass Betta go to ur original account
Lol absolute bs
The high watermark for Pat Metheny. He got it.
true
Thanks for the +1 culture, Steve.
Always useful
This Music is healing to me🎼🎼💚💚💚
I have just discovered that The Orb took a sample from this piece for their Little Fluffy Clouds. :)
If you liked this, the guitarist who plays it (Pat Metheny) is heavily influenced by Steve Reich and I strongly recommend listening to "The Way Up" album by "The Pat Metheny Group" and "The Orchestrion Project" album by Pat Metheny
+konosxatz1 Pat Metheny is an amazing musician. The work he's written and recorded with Lyle Mays is some of the most beautiful music ever written.
Agreed
the way up album is a masterpiece, after hundred of times over and over never get eneough of it
I agree,it is one of my favorite albums. The way he connects the 1st and 2nd parts with the 3rd is just genius.Near the end of the 3rd part i can't help but smile.
Checking out "Imaginary Day" by The Pat Metheny Group is incredible, too.
Two times in a row I've not looked at the computer screen for the first half, and then I happen to look over and it's the keyboard-eating kitty! hahaha. Thanks for posting!
now three times!
stillprocrastinating
You're hearing the beginning of the second movement.
Pat Metheny on guitar. Awsomeness
Now I finally get where all that math-rocky, indi/emo, alternative, prog what-have-you came from. This reminds me of Cynic's Focus album, Chon and so many others
Reich is a huge influence on Robert Fripp, the daddy of prog
Loved the music for a long time ... but your photos are glorious!
absolutely stunning
All this photos are so beautiful! You did a great job
Mind Blowing.
wrong shazam result got me here
Winston Smith it was sampled
is this what you were looking for? th-cam.com/video/FHixChYgGRI/w-d-xo.html
Same. I was looking for the bgm used in Tokyo Tokyo video and got here.
Years later, the exact same thing mate, I shazam'd a tune by a band called Beat Crusaders and it brought me here
Just got an ad for the Shazam movie,on this video.
Beautyfull pictures with beautifull music! Thank you
Oh my god this is amazing!
That's beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Things are about to get a little busy here. #Bloo15
OH YEAH!!! Haha
This is the musical equivalent to the DVD logo hitting perfectly in the corner every time for fifteen minutes
I'm sat in a discord server with a group of people watching an absolutely dreadful 'comedy'. Bored, I start browsing Aphex Twin videos on TH-cam and read a comment about how he is influenced by Steve Reich, I look him up. This is the first track I listen to and I've discovered the influence behind the music from Sim City that I liked so much twenty years ago.
Lovely stuff.
Ahh, this is soooo good!!!
the visuals go great. the random lion at 7:55 lol this more the driving type music i'm looking for. perfect.
it is such a strange feeling.. listening to it
i hear emotion.. it is so good
In wonder world of sounds, great !!!
Thanks for posting
The Bluecoats have this annoying habit of introducing me to dope new music
***** I really love how Bluecoats' preferred music mostly revolves around experimental groups / composers & the fact that their previous music's composers has connections to their chosen music this year. As an example.. In 2011, Bluecoats did Creep, a Radiohead song, as the opener. Radiohead's guitarist, Jonny Greenwood, takes interest in Steve Reich's music.. /watch?v=Nd72m_29-lA #gobloo
Coats have been named the "Hippie Corps" for always wanting to be innovative.
the Orb "evil 39"
Bluecoats 2015 is sooooo goood it makes me wanna cry 🥰🥺

i once hear jonny greenwood (of radiohead) played something like this
Good Ear. He went on tour covering this piece.

Ayo, there was this performance of Jonny doing this piece, and it's exactly why I ended up in this video in the first place! I thought it sounded like waterfalls or specific droplets of water being manipulated into this pristine and colorful musical pattern. I was simply entranced by his performance of it that I had to listen to the original. Sure enough, here's me. Here's where I came from: th-cam.com/video/wNWR47gwy0A/w-d-xo.html
Me from five years after this comment was posted awaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!
They also did a piece reminiscent of Riech's come out to show them.

Ok, this is epic 👌
Love it
Inspired me in a very profound way
"Non esistono veritá,ma solo interpretazioni:anche questa è un'interpretazione" ma qui la veritá esiste: this is the greatest symphony(sinphony in etimo nativo american) ever
MARAVILLOSO
Sublime.
Nice video!!
Thank you Andre 300
Heard this on Cracow Last Night of The Proms by Łukasz Kuropaczewski. Amazing!
I've heard it in Kraków as well, on Sacrum Profanum, played by Jonny Greenwood! Fantastic
Woah, American Don sounds so much like this but a bit weirder and with a totally different kind of energy. So cool.
the don caballero album?
Yeah! I think it's the looping and slowly evolving guitar that makes me think of it, especially the middle section.
Who’s here for GCSEs or music homework??
This piece is played by 7 different guitars, each one is manipulated using electric noises to create different pitches and sounds. This piece starts off quite fast however in the middle it slows down and then speeds up again near the end. It has a hypnotic sense and is a great example of phase shifting and to make this piece more hypnotic tempos and rhythms are changed throughout and new motifs added to form different parts. There is also a cyclic pitch and it’s speed changes and repeated motifs are examples of repetition.
You’re welcome 💓👻
Correction: 10 guitars and two bass guitars.
Thanks to the Cinematic Orchestra for sending me here...
¡Qué es esta preciosidad!
Não é preciso sair do lugar para se fazer uma viagem intensa...
hehe
Gracias

Wonderful. I also hear some of The Orb in this.
For a fantastic mix of this and other Reich works listen to Megamix by Tranquility Bass. Spine tingling goose bumping stuff.
